Im currently thinking about buying a headphone amplifier and im new to all this stuff so i was just wondering do i need a dac as well or is that just optional. Im planning to use the amplifier with my computer and turntable

I can't fucking get silicon ear tips to stay in my ears. They always slowly slip out and give my ears a burning feeling, even when using small or large tips and really trying to insert them deep. Not to mention my ears are very waxy. Would Comply foam tips help? I really want to use earphones over headphones for their compactness and lightness, but man they have never agreed with my ears fit-wise. Anybody else think this way but found a potential solution? I don't have the means to keep buying earphones and returning them all the time.

You're probably right ultimately. I just like that they're smaller and more convenient to own, often don't need a big metal block amplifier on your desk that needs to be plugged in to sound good and they can (supposedly) provide a better seal when "used correctly".

Yeah, comply tips are memory foam, you sort of squish them with your fingers before you put them in and they expand back in your ear. Much better isolation, its like wearing ear plugs that play music.

I bought a DAC and for the record it made absolutely no difference to the sound whatsoever. Most DAC A/B testing I’ve read uses a bunch of wishy-washy phrasing like ‘creamy’ ‘vibrant’ less full but with more bite’ ‘more gratifying’ etc

If so you should know that if your onboard audio is good, you don't really need one.

Subjective audio testing is bullshit anyways, way to test an audio product: 'creamy', 'vibrant' and 'organic'.

Show scientific measurements and comment on them instead.
