>lenovo z5
what do you think it will have in terms of features?

I hope it has FM radio, 3.5mm audio or a usb type C adapter, sd card slot, and a removable battery. I also hope it will be supported by LineageOS and will be able to be rooted. What do you guys think the price will be, and would it be available on global carriers?

t. west coast leaf

Can you set up ssh from the default Android terminal or do you need Termux?

whats thebest smartphone without a notch and with a headphone.
$500 or less new or used.

reanswering then.

I doubt it will have a removable battery, most good phones lately lack that.
I think if it really wants to be a futuristic device it will have wireless charging. I find it hard to speculate the rest.
It will probably have a late 600s to top of the line 800s processor, but I'm betting on 600s series.

ok. I read it may have 4TB of storage as well so it may not have a microSD card slot then. Do you think a removable battery is needed nowadays or is only for autists?

I read that about the storage as well, although I find it ridiculous. It'll probably have good storage, like 128 or even 256GB, but those 4TB might be pure marketing, and actually refers to some sort of extra cloud storage that comes bundled up with the device.

I have been bothered by a battery not being removable before, but lately I haven't been caring much. Usually, by the time the batteries on my phone actually go to shit, which takes years, is the time I am about to replace them anyway with something else.

cloud storage is not a fun time in leafland, with our exorbitant data plans. As long as I can fit kino onto it in 720 or 1080p I will be happy. I may also get a gear vr if the display is good enough to be paired with it.

I mean, I doubt you'll be able to fit in your whole library as 15 or 20 movies will amount to the entirely of the phone's storage, but you'll certainly can put some nice kino in I guess.

What's your budget anonykum

like $1000CAD I guess. I could get something like $200 if it is the best value/$ though.

I am the leaf who is interested in the lenovo unless it is a pipe dream

>a removable battery

why do you brainlets think this is still a thing
it's going to cost upwards of 700 bux. count on it

who aren't microSD card slots stil la thing? I hate this built-in storage. When you do many writes/rewrite, storage decreases. I would like to be able to put a fresh microSD chip in when that happens.

they still are on samsung's flagships

>be s5 active

>need to restart the phone to make it work, but then it eventually stops again
>sd card works on other phone perfectly fine

>it still does it
is it kill?

I heard S9 is not much of an improvement over S8. I would like best bang-for-the-buck, per se

They are a thing on many phones still.

what are kids these days doing with their smartphones these days? VR headsets, panoramic photographs, taking notes with a stylus?

many of the chinkphones do not

mostly chat and social media I think
some use it for games

What's the point of buying an expensive flagship phone when you'll just use it in browsing the net, capture images and play some games which can be done in a cheap midrange phone?

God, if OP5T's screen was at like 5.4 or 5.6'' it would be perfect

Waiting for the global version for the Nokia X6. The specs are really something else for the thing's price

Are there good screen protectors for the OnePlus 3? I got one and it was terrible.

LG V30 if you get a great deal, LG G6 for way below 500. Samsung S8 can also be had around 500 or less

>Glass back
>AMOLED screen
>402 ppi
>Camera has shitty focus
>Gestures suck ass
>Colors are washed out because of the type of screen

I kinda wanted the op6, but it has too many issues and makes them difficult to ignore for me.
The price is still very good, tho.

Sounds like water damage maybe? Other than that it may just be wear and tear over time, it’s probably fucked

are there any waterproof phones recommended?

well, I did had it for 3 years

would you recommend the s9 over lg v30?

Is this a real phone? I don't trust chink concept drawings/renderings anymore after Xiaomi pulled a Mi Mix

Most newer flagship phones are waterproof luckily, so you can just pretty much look for a few phones you like and several of them will have waterproofing

Im waiting for 6T or Pixel 3
I hope it has the longevity if my IP6

Well I’m about to get the V30 over the S9. I’ll probably get the V30 for €500 vs the S9 going for €520 so it’s not a matter of price, but desu 8 just really hated the hand feel of the S9 when trying it in store. From the tests I’ve read the V30 also has the better battery life, plus I like that it has a nice DAC and wide angle camera as well as being less mainstream. The S9 has the better screen and faster processor though.

They’re both great phones, I’d recommend trying them out and going by preference as that will really influence your experience with the phone

It will be announced next month I think.

hahah you just need to realize that everyone is actually slowly becoming apple.

It has an announcement date already, somewhere in June. It will probably fail to meet expectations because the hype is just way too much, but I think they'll deliver a fine piece of hardware.

Looking for a 845 phone WITH headphone jack.

Is Oneplus 6 any good?
Any better alternatives?

the op6 has a good price, but has some shoddy specs here and there.
You get a bang out of your buck with it.

My 5t looks like this and OnepPus claims it's normal

Why did I ever trust chinks?

LG G6, Sony Xperia XZ1 or Huawei P20 Lite /spg/? I'm leaning towards the Huawei desu because the cam on the Lg G6 I have rn is kinda shit

Never settled

Most people don't need one. But they want one.
There's a point to getting shit you want, if you can afford it. Even if it isn't the best use of the money.

That being said, I bought my current flagship a year after launch at a huge discount for switching carriers. I don't think I'll ever need the latest phone myself, but I certainly understand the desire for one.

Applying screen protectors is the Isaac and Abraham of the modern age. You spend all the setup time. All the sterilization time. You clean the area. Shut off all air circulation. Sweep everything clean. And then, in the moment of truth... dust. Dust from everywhere. Dust. Dust. Dust.
The application of screen protectors is a modern day test of faith.

I always figured that I'd be the kind of person to use a strong protective case and a nice screen protector. Both of my smartphones I've gone completely naked and they've been basically fine aside from some minor scuffs to the sides or back.
Do most of you guys use screen protectors?

XZ1>=G6>>>P20 lite

Depend on price, if G6 is at least 10~15% less than the XZ1 go for it, otherwise go for the sony, Huawei one is shit and that model more as it's from their "budget" lineup

>Do most of you guys use screen protectors?
Guy you're responding to responding. I use one on my phone. I bought a 3 pack because I foresaw issues. The first one totally fucked up and the second one turned out "good enough". When I fucked up the first one I decided to see how many times I could hit it with a hammer. I can attest that tempered glass screen protectors are pretty durable. Not sure how useful given modern screens, but the shield is cheaper than the screen.

Yes, but only because it's more easy to throw away a sub $10 protector than changing the whole screen in case some shit happen (fuck you pocket sand).
Cases for the same reason (as it's cheaper to change them than the phone body itself) plus some minor bump/impact protection.
Still it's more like some sort of precaution or insurance than a real risk (unless your phone has shit plastics or no gorilla glass)

Hmmm, I already have the G6 right now because I just upgraded, but I'm not really happy with the camera on it, everything else is pretty great though.

Might go out and look at the Sony then to see if I like it more, thanks.

It only really helps if you drop the phone directly onto the screen. If the edge hits the ground first the shock will go into the display all the same, and the screen protector won’t really help. It does add some durability, but whether or not the phone was well constructed will matter much more

The LG has probably the best camera of the ones you listed though. If you just want a better camera in a $300 phone consider the S7

Sweeping before applying the screen protector is actually counter productive as it throws up lots of fine dust into the air which will stay there for a while. Instead go into the bathroom, close the windows and turn up the hot water in the shower for a few minutes until there’s condensation on the windows, that’s probably the most dust free environment you can get in your house. In my experience you can usually do just fine in any room though if you are careful

I have a Samsung note 4 and its nearly 3 years old and slows down sometimes im currently looking for a New fone but I feel spec wise that i would not be jumping forward much if i buy a note8 or 9+ idk plase help a tech retard

The back cam is great, but the front facing one I find poor, should have specified. I'll have to look at the S7 then as well

Well smartphone specs just haven’t been advancing that quickly over the last 2-3 years. Still, you’d get a better camera, better battery as the Note 4 had poor battery life, a faster processor and waterproofing etc.

If you want innovations you should probably wait a other year or two as we will probably see a bunch of things like fingerprint readers integrated into the screen, bendable displays, all-screen phones etc come out 2019 and 2020.

For now you could consider getting the S8 or S8+ if you want a reasonably placed replacement phone, or go for the newest gen if you don’t mind the price

You could also consider the HTC U11 if you just want a great camera and don’t care about the rest all that much. It’s a bit more expensive than the other options, but a much newer phone with a way better camera too

Thanks for the info battery life is really anoying just bought my 2

I was thinking maybe the oneplus 6 for some new/better functioning features and not the biggest hit on the Wallet idk to be Honest just buying a New fone when the one i have works is Hard to justify

So... I missed the last few threads about the OnePlus 6.
What's Jow Forums's verdict?

I have an OP3 but it's time to move on. Should I wait for the 6t? Seems like every T iteration blows the last one the fuck out.

Attached: a1a4x7p0jc601.jpg (750x1334, 101K)

Since the Note 4 isn’t that old a phone you could look at some selling it, or some buyback scheme to reduce the price of a new phone. If it’s in decent condition and you find the right company or individual to sell to you should get at least 100 bucks back from it, though idk since it’s older. I sold my Note 1 to a company specialising in buying used phones back in the day and got 40% of the new price, but it was only a year old and in great condition, you will probably get less for yours.

The OP6 would definitely be a solid choice, around the price of an S9 or S8+. Keep in mind it doesn’t have an SD card slot or waterproofing if that matters to you, but a better battery than the Samsung devices. Whether a new phone is worth the investment to you is something only you can decide, it’s also a question of how much you use it and how important your phone is to your day to day life

>glass back
>no wireless charging which is why the glass back exists
Why do they even bother?

Better signal receive maybe? Otherwise glass back is just gimmick, true.

Seems like Motorola wants to release a Moto G6 Plus with SD660/128GB/6GB RAM.

How far off is the next major innovation in cell phones?
Are foldable screens going to even matter, or is it some DS gimmick?

Alright, think I'm ready to talk about this a bit more. The short of it is I fucking love this phone.

I was a bit worried coming from my G4/N5 that the screen was going to be a big downsize and it just wouldn't feel comfortable to me...especially since my eyesight isn't great. No problems here however. The screen has really good colors, and is plenty big enough for me to see what's going on. I have no problem reading things, and if I did I could just turn up the text scaling a bit more. The screen quality is really nice too. Lower dpi but the text is just as clear as i remember my G4 being. I have a really colorful wallpaper set right now and I'm honestly just blown away by how vibrant it looks.

Build quality is really good too. My only real complaint is that whatever material it is really isn't as grippy as on my G4's leather back, but the phone is compact so I don't feel myself dropping it anytime soon. Battery life is rock solid. It's what you'd expect from a 720p device released in 2017. Easily a day and a half for me.

Camera isn't bad, I don't really notice a strong problem with it. Yeah, certainly not as good as the G4's camera considering the G4 had the best of that gen, but I'd been using open camera for a while anyways. If photos are important to you, you probably wouldn't get this anyways. Had a LOT of fun with the 960 FPS bursts though, got some good ones of my cat jumping off the couch.

Finger print scanner is kind of irritating since you unlock it and then it instantly unlocks. Might be useful to some, but idk how long I'll let it keep going. Good sound quality, stereo speakers are an amazing experience. Honestly, this phone just feels fucking GOOD. This is a phone for a user who doesn't want to be bothered with extra useless featuers and a huge design, or a big complex but fancy OS. Reminds me of a simpler time. Hope Sony doesn't drop out of the phone business, clearly the hero we need right now in the market.

ama if you want

Attached: Sony-Xperia-XZ1-Compact-Review-TI.jpg (680x453, 54K)

I don't leave home without a tempered glass screen protector. My Nexus 4 was always getting tons of scratches and I never could figure out why, since nobody else had this problem. Nexus 5 wasn't as bad, but when I learned about them for my next phone since I shattered mine, they were perfect. I HATE how other materials feel, it has to be glass for me. So it does a triple duty of feeling good, protecting my screen from scratches, and being a buffer for the screen if it was to crack. Just wish more manufacturer's stopped doing weird shit with their screens so that way it wasn't a hassle.

>Sony's 2.5d meme

About the fingerprint scanner: activate double tap to wake in the settings, that way you can call up the screen and see notifications without unlocking the device

t. fellow sony user

It has no ip rating but has good water resistance
Some guy dropped it into the pool for 30 minutes and even though it had water damage the phone isnt completely fucked

>spent money on a new phone
>realize you use it exactly the same way than the last one
>realize you are basically running against technology itself having to move into newer hardware

Attached: AFAF3523-8B22-41BD-9644-00FC69DA1D82.jpg (430x685, 63K)

My opx is not holding battery life very well anymore, is samsung A8 for 300€ a decent opportunity ?

You're at least supporting the advancement of technology by buying newer phones! They wouldn't have much incentive to keep upgrading things otherwise.

Yeah it’ll probably be fine if it has a drink spilled over it or something. Still, most of todays flagships could deal with a bath in the pool or being cleaned under the faucet so it can be expected nowadays unlike a few years ago

If you want to just check the lockscreen then use a different finger than what you've registered to unlock the phone

XZ1 doesn't have dttw

Not all current phone manufacturers rely on innovation, but rather on palatable gimmicks (edge gimmicks, IRIS scanners, unnecessarily thin devices, non-functional dual camera setups, proprietary audio solutions, 4K displays, etc.).

>cracked my Moto X Play screen
What's the current 300€ meme phone?

>XZ1 doesn't have dttw

Wtf that’s retarded. I’ve got the Z and use it all the time, why would they delete this feature?

I have the same phone since January, I agree with all of the above. It comes with a bit of bloatware though, can't wait for its official Lineage release!

If you don't mind average battery capacity and life, it may be a good choice. Rooting is possible, although convoluted, but custom ROM support is almost non-existent. You might want to consider the Redmi Note 5 line.
forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a8-2018/samsung-galaxy-a8-2018-guides-news--discussion/guide-root-install-twrp-samsung-january-t3760975

The battery on my redmi note 4 expanded and it looks absolutely fucked, though I'm posting from it now. What do? Will it catch fire? Recommend me a phone for a similar price that I can keep in my back pocket. I would also like redmi note 4 tier features.

hey Jow Forumsuys, total amateur here. Wasn't sure to go here or to a dumb questions thread, but I was hoping you guys could recommend me a phone. I've been using an iphone 4 for almost 8 years now, and its finally on its way out, so I need a replacement. Given that I've been out of the smartphone game for a long time, I have no clue what to look for these days in a phone.

I'm from australia, my carrier is optus

I'm looking for a phone thats relatively no nonsense and doesn't require tons of setup or knowledge, as I'm a total casual in the technology field. Something with lots of storage space and good for music would be nice, I hated that I couldn't store FLAC files on my apple device. I guess if it was reliable and operated relatively well I would be happy? Also I hear that some phones dont have headphone jacks anymore, and I think that kinda sucks.

As its my first phone in a long while my budget is quite high, I'm willing to buy something closer to the upper end (although I'm not sure how much that would be, maybe $500-$700?)

I dont know how big a deal size is, but something manageable would be fine, I dont think it's that important to me.

I understand that on a lot of other boards they have a small number of entry-level recommendations that have been time-tested and reliable choices for beginners, I was wondering if there was something similar here? Granted, phones are constantly upgrading and changing, so I dont know if any model sticks around for long enough to become a "staple" before becoming obsolete.

Sorry for all text, if it was up to me I would just buy a pixel or whatever is big and popular at the moment- but I'd like to defer to your better judgement before pulling the trigger, since you guys all seem pretty knowledgeable and definitely seem to know what you're talking about.

It's a li-po battery and not li-ion, so it actually won't burst into flames if the battery internals are exposed to oxygen.

>slack

Fucking corporate slave

>tfw happy with s4
>tfw its busted up and people think I poor
>tfw have to search for a new phone but lazy
Want a sub 200$ phone with replacable battery. Dont give a shit about taking celfies. Wouldnt mind installing lineage or some shite like that either.

Attached: 1513656206784s.jpg (250x250, 6K)

chincked
So there is features left to introduce in op6t

lg v20 is basicly the only option as far as I'm aware, but you're looking at buying refurbished basicly.

I got the Redmi Note 4X because of Miku. A cosmetic reason is a good enough reason for me.

>the V30 has the better battery life
guess who never owned an LG phone before

Wow.. Thats sad. Thanks user.

If you have an s8 you don't need an S9 at all, but if you're on something like an s6 or similar from that time frame it's a moderately good upgrade

Get a Samsung S8 or S9, look a bit for a deal and you can find them for sub 500 and sub 650$ respectively quite easily, 50$ less with a bit of searching and patience. Super standard phones with few weaknesses, headphone jack and expandable storage. Try out in store though to see if you like the edge display

They're not waterproof, they're water resistant. They'll survive rain drops and falling in a shallow sink but don't expect to drop it in a deep pool for any extended period of time, the deeper it goes the more pressure etc. IP68 is the flagship standard and it's rated to survive 30 minutes in 1.5 meters of water
