There was a game a few years back that had a bunch of legitimate users get some error, and this exact thing happened. Their copies of the game were also banned. It was hilarious, forget the game though.

There was an early pirate version of Deus Ex where it was impossible to get on the boat after the first mission due to a missing file. There were lots of posts on forums asking how to get on the boat, so it was easy to tell who had pirated the game.

I was uber angry at this for a long time, but I worded this awkwardly enough that I don't think anyone could feel my feels. This was in google questions or something, when I went there for a question about youtube myself and just wanted to help out, before seeing this and losing all faith in the system.
