Yes.
Sent from my tablet.

i use my tablet daily to read in bed, i know people who do the same on their phone, absolute pleb status

i prefer reading from my note 4. screen size is pretty good for that. don't have to deal with a huge tablet screena and fuck my flow due to eye travel.

why not an e reader though?

I got a shit-tier Windows tablet/laptop hybrid. It gets the job done but almost zero Linux support and the reading """apps""" on Win 10 are atrocious

>fuck my flow due to eye travel
have you ever read a book?

Honestly I think x86 tablets are the best, I would love a Windows 10 LTSB tablet or one with a flavor of touch screen friendly Linux. I’ve bought many Android tablets and eReaders and they just feel so limited. All that screen space wasted simply to have a “bigger phone”. With x86 I can at least use it for tons of stuff, basically just set it up to be a functional clone of my desktop PC except on the go.

Am I the only one? What are some good Cherry trail chink tablets with good battery life?

I remember them every time I have to ask a customer to login to his router with his "Amazon iPad"

>implying
The buzz around them has died - they've lost their novelty, but they still fill a niche. iPads, and "cheap, less restrictive not- iPads", are still going strong, albeit sales have plateaued at a low level because the damn things last for ages.

Yeah, they're great. It is just that everybody has one and there is no reason to upgrade with every release. As far as a consumer product goes, they've hit market saturation. People will buy them as necessary.

Get a Surface Pro and run a Linux distro of your choice. Debian works fine with mine, and the only hardware mod I needed was a $5 USB WiFi dongle. Everything else works great, including the pen and touch screen. I use Gnome as the desktop. It's actually good to have a blocky UI like that on a tablet. When I'm at home I connect a mouse and keyboard and switch to MATE.

These things are a bitch to upgrade and repair hardware wise but they're infinitely more useful than iToys and other ARM trash. I can actually run Windows VMs on it. At one point I had an Android 7.0 x86 port installed on the bare metal which worked surprisingly well.

Yes I have an Amazon fire tablet that I use to watch movies or jack off in bed. Has a long like 12hr battery life. Screen is not the best at a little more than 720p. It serves its purpose.

I couldn't imagine paying a lot of money for a tablet that serves a roll like I use it for.

we're hitting levels of autism that shouldn't be possible

I've thought about putting porn on my tablet but I don't want Google to know what I jack off too (I know, they already know.)

Same here. It's also good on the can. I've been using my Note 8 for quite a bit of reading since I got it, though.

fwiw a Note screen really isn't that much smaller than a typical paperback book page, the reading experience is pretty similar.

Yeah, I 'member! 'Member laptops, Jow Forums?

I loved my bungbungame. pity the battery only lasted a couple years.

remember laptops

Sucks the only choices you have for Android in the states are complete shit, Asus, and Samsung

The only decent ones I've seen that have no marketing budget are the Teclast Master series, and the Chuwi tablets with the Helio X2X series SoCs in them

Autism drives innovation. Autist pride worldwide.

Why not just use pic related

>the reading """apps""" on Win 10 are atrocious
Reading what exactly? Edge is a fine PDF reader.

This. Even with Windows, x86 tablets can do so much more than Android.

I'm using an HP ProBook x360 11 EE. It comes with Win10 Pro, 4 GB RAM, and uses a Celeron N3350. Basic low-end laptop but seems built sturdier than I expected from HP, and it folds around to be a somewhat bulky tablet.

If I want a drawing tablet would a surface pro or XPS 15 2-in-1 be better?

yeah,
Phablets pretty much buried tablets by now.

Bought this tablet as a poor man's Cintiq,
it's OK, although the battery life is shit and is a bit laggy sometimes.

I read ebooks on my 70" TV

Attached: 681767714_1271454.gif (400x400, 150K)

Because it’s chunky as fuck and not intended as a typical tablet but rather a mobile drawing station

I bought my first tablet only last year. It's nice to read in bed (web, pdf documents) but it's not essential.

i work in a messy environment (wet cutting) and i use my galaxy tab A to make notes, keep track of shit and it's somehow better than post-it notes and magic marker.

epubs

Surely there are decent Windows programs for this, just not ones from the Windows Store. We already know the Windows Store and most of what's in it is crap.

>Doesn't know Calibre exists.

calbre is a complete piece of shit reader especially for a tablet, it's only good for opening the file to check something quickly. Calibre's strengths are elsewhere

Cover is pretty decent.

iPad and Surface clones still alive. Only android tablets are dead

That's just a ThinkPad with touchscreen capabilities.

I only use to tablets to let my wife's son play Minecraft while we're in the car or something. Do they have any other use?

They're app holes. App runners, for apping apps.

Yes. I'm thinking of DYIing a wall mounted cryptocurrency chart screen out of my iPad 3 so it won't collect dust but I dunno how to do the cables properly

Not really, laptop is a convertible so I just use that but mostly my phone.

If its your place, run the wires in the wall to a box smaller then the iPad, so you don't see them. Or a surface mount wire channel but it won't look as nice.

So what you all got then? I have a 64GB Lenovo Tab 4 plus, it's pretty much the perfect little companion device. Use it for Slack, Trello and JIRA to manage my Agile team

What about spacelets, Jow Forums ?

Unnecessary device. Its just a big phone you already have.

Note Phone
E-reader
Laptop

is everything you need.

iPad Pro, collecting dust.

Worst $1000 I've ever spend.

i'm inclined to disagree. android/ios and their apps are designed to be touch-centric. windows and linux are keyboard-and-mouse-centric with touch compatibility added as an afterthought. and seriously fuck trying to use anything but the most basic of desktop apps on a touchscreen.
tech support truly is the worst and you have my sympathy.
t. ex. tech support employee

Been using mine daily for over 3 years (galaxy tab s 10.5). Screen size is just right and the most intensive thing I do on it is watch 10 bit anime. Don't see myself replacing it anytime soon.

i have the 12.2 inch note pro. it's awesome. i hate samsung's gookery when it comes to updates or installing your own os though. with a desktop or laptop, no problem. android, you need to jump through hoops.

except in north america. the android tablets normally sold in north america do not have phone capability.

Carrier specific models do

>calling in 2018
>not reading on your tablet
>not using The Tablet That Can Replace Your Laptop™

Attached: 2-microsoft-surface-pro-2017.jpg (970x452, 75K)

which ones? i've been in contact with US and Canadian carriers and all vehemently deny that their tablets are call capable. They all are missing the hardware for that. The dialer software can be installed, but they will never work.

Oh shit checked, and yeah I read that wrong, but why couldn't you use a VOIP service like GTalk?

eReaders are great, you only need space for the eReader and you don't even need a charger and you can have as many books to read as you want for a normal

call quality tends to be weird with what is now hangouts.

Aren't there other programs?

the only one that seems to have decent call quality is textnow, but it's riddled with ads.

>phones get bigger screens while keeping the same size
>tablet sales drop off

Is there a point to tablets anymore?

Certain things are easier with a big screen

The size requirements of a phone and a tablet will never be the same. Phones have to go in your pocket. Comfortable reading requires a bigger screen than can fit in your pocket.

Insterting my question in the most appropriate thread:

I'm looking for a 7-8" screen sized tablet. I'm also looking for one that's around $200.

So far, I'm seeing the Smsg tab A2 for the 8-inch size because it's storage is 32gb versus 16 for most other brands.

I know there's expandable memory, but a lot of crap only installs internal memory. Any thoughts on best 7-8 inch tablet?

Teclast T8 Master
They're on the think sites like banggood, might be able to snag one for cheaper on aliexpress, they have a damn good chip and they're 1440p screens

still the Nexus 7 (2013)

Cool. thx.

I had one 5 years ago and it was really nice. Then Android got more and more bloated and I couldn't find a Cyanogenmod version based on older Android, so I just left it in the attic where it's been collecting dust ever since. I got a Thinkpad to replace it and haven't looked back; laptops are much more versatile and typing on them doesn't make me want to kill myself.

>4GB RAM/64GB ROM
>mSD support
>8.4" 2560x1600p
>3.5 jack
>USB C
>XDA support
Why haven't you gotten one Jow Forums?

Put 2 on small stands flanking your laptop and you've got a triple monitor setup made of whatever your laptop is and 2 high DPI DCI-P3 IPS displays that you can also touch. Good if you're usually moving around because all this can fit in a portion of a backpack, as opposed to carrying two monitors.

>literally states it comes from a warehouse in china
>the reviews are from Russians

Signs of a great product.

The only downfall to it is the Mediatek Hexacore drains the battery quicker than a SD 625 would, also it seems the chinks are the only ones who still care about the tablet market
But if you want a SD625 tablet you can always get the Lenovo Tab 4 Plus like pic related, problem is you'll be stuck because there's no dev support

Attached: 201703012349335355.jpg (590x450, 28K)

Guys how many of you do this:

>about to go to bed
>thinking about some netflix or something
>turn tablet on
>lay down
>update a couple apps
>update system
>turn tablet off
>go to bed

Attached: 1479237856478.jpg (4032x3024, 1.9M)

I actually use the x200 tablet everyday
never actually use the tablet feature though

i'd go slightly out of that range and go with the samsung galaxy tab s 8.4. even used, it'll give lots of tablets a run for their money. it has a great screen and ir blaster is nice if you like that sort of thing.

You mean iPads?

Why would you want an iPad which won't let you run anything other than iOS when you could have this Pipo P10 and run both Android and a Linux distro?

Attached: Phoenix-OS-Laptop.jpg (634x535, 51K)

Because Android and Linux are both dead platforms for tablets? Hell I don't even want a tablet and I can concede Apple is the only real player left in the tablet space.

>I can concede
Well of course you would with that defeatist attitude

What's there to fight about? Tablets are a pretty much saturated platform with not that much room to grow anymore. Apple is the dominant player in it for the forseeable future.

why do you even care about shit like that
who gives a fuck
unless you have something to hide you pedo filth

Yeah, I see one every time I drop by my gf's place. She replaced her desktop, laptop, and ipad with a surface so she can have all her stuff in one place that she can take everywhere without being limited by mobile shit OSes.

I'm actually a little tempted by the new iPad, the Pros were a bit too much of an ask for pencil support.

Otherwise i could wait and see what this new lower cost Surface might be like.

What are you talking about? Tablets are still popular among normies. The massive tablet craze back when they were fresh on the market might have died down a bit, but I do think tablets serve a comfortable niche.

yes

Attached: image.jpg (4032x3024, 1.76M)

I honestly don't see the point in tablets outside of passive media consumption
Gaming on tablets/phones is fucking pointless considering how quickly the batteries get drained, if you want to game on Android get a box with a decent chip like a Shield TV or a Yundoo Y8

Tablet battery lasts for a good while, you're probably playing games that are poorly optimised.

who?

GTFO that's terrible advice, get with the 21st century

Lenovo's Tab Plus range are nice. You can get a 3GB / 32GB 8" for under $200, very fast, nice screen, OK speakers. Few pre-installed apps, and the double-tap to wake screen feature and haptic feedback are nice bonuses.

Of course. I'm posting from one right now. I paid $80 for an 8.0" Samsung Tab A forever ago. Great little tablet with amazing battery life. It's only caveat being it's low resolution screen.

wuds a compooder :DD

Attached: download (3).jpg (206x244, 6K)

Battery ran for a couple of years after charging and you are moaning about it...

I'd kind of like a tablet that i can throw in my bag and use while on the train and such.I just can't decide if i should get a windows tablet or get an iPad - which would be re-investing in yet another ecosystem.

Silly as it sounds i'm a little scared of bringing my laptop on casual day trips since i generally won't just leave my bag at a hotel.

Did anyone fall for the Chuwi corebook meme?

Nah.

Attached: 1511771377502.jpg (1280x1063, 113K)

I'll buy it for $100.

I have one. Cheap phone plus ~$350-450 tablet is the sweet spot. As soon as I got my tablet, within a week, I removed almost all the apps off my phone. Speakers sound better, games are easier to play. Reading is better.

The battery life is fantastic too.

Yes, use one daily for books, videos and writing hand notes if I have to (math related).
