this is a little specific of a request, my build is a little dated, RX 480 4GB, i5 4690, but I only play older games anyway (2004-2009). Does anyone have suggestions for a simple/midrange monitor? Should I go 1080p, or higher resolution if my games are old/windowed mode and I do a lot of web surfing, netflix watching, programming? Id imagine because the games are old theres no point focusing on refresh rates right

i live in new zealand so its hard to find stuff. $350nzd would be a preferrable price point but i do have a job

or is it the opposite - older games run at such high framerates its good to focus on that? im real dumb

Why do a lot of cases have shrouds covering the lower part/psu? Does it serve a function or is it just aesthetics? Feels a bit unintuitive airflow and temp-wise.

>people buying anything from the current Intel lineup
How retarded do you have to be?

LOOK AT THE TOP OF HIS HEAD

In 2009, 2560x1920 was the high-end test resolution. I wouldn't even spend $350 on a monitor. Get as big as you can for under $200. 60hz.

What size boot/main storage do you use? I have a bunch of assorted storage, but there is no point to it.......9 years of buying HDDs and just keeping them in my old PC really.

120gb SSD
500gb HDD
1TB HDD
750GB HDD
2TB HDD backup

I only have 780gb of stuff, and a lot of that is probably junk. One 120gb SSD is not really big enough for a boot drive, but it was really expensive when I bought it.

I was going to replace my tiny SSD with a Samsung 860 500gb SSD, but then thought that I would maybe get a 250gb m.2 instead, and replace all my internal HDD storage with one 2tb drive.

Soo, i have pic related since 2002, upgraded motherboard and cpu in 2013. I´m think is fine but i only need a new gpu, any ideas that don´t bottleneck it?

Attached: Specs.png (1341x727, 39K)

get the 500gb SSD, imo

not nvme m.2 bb?

I have a 960Evo 250Gb M2 SSD as gaming/Windows 10.
I also have a linux dist on a 500GB mech HDD. But when i upgrade Im gonna use 2 M2 SSD's, 250gb with W10+gaymes and a 120gb Linux M2 SSD..
For storage I have my 12tb debian server.

Just bought a fresh new fx 6300 today for $120

shut up goy

roast me lads
pcpartpicker.com/list/m9Y3VY

what do I need to know about buying a replacement battery for an acer c720 laptop? They all seem to be from different brands and have slightly different mAh and voltage ratings.

For example: one battery on ifixit is 11.4v 3720mAh and one on amazon is 11.25v 3990mAh

yeah that makes sense, esp cuz with the old games they suffer so much problems with jagged textures and poor optimization, theres no way higher refresh rate is gonna satisfy me over just going big and crisp IPS

thoughts for an ausfag
i know the gpu and memory are painfully overpriced but i need something relatively soon

any suggestions to cpu/psu?

is there any current cpu that isnt affected by spectre and such? (considering the patches hit the performance hard)

im looking to upgrade but remembered the cluster fuck and thought it may be a good idea to wait.

Get cheaper board, I got PRIME B350-PLUS last week, your board is more expensive than some X370.

I'm using a i7 2600k, is this going to cause much of a bottleneck if I go with a 1080ti or 1180?

Why do you try to ruin pcbg every single day

Ryzen 2 has bios/software mitigations by default

>i3 8100 - Budget gaming builds

didn't you get BTFO time and time again?

He's never going to stop

actually it might not be as much of a shitpost now, apparently cheaper coffee boards came out
still is worse bang for buck than 2200G tho

The H7 should come with adequate thermal compund, no need for 3rd party one. If you still want, I'd take Noctua or Thermal Grizzly.
Really dislike Gigabyte cards lately.. if you can get something else at similar price please do in straya you should have access to Galax/KFA cards, they are great.
Your RAM is WAY too slow. Get at least 3000 CL 16 and preferrably from Asus QVL. Ryzen demands fast RAM, you'd be shooting yourself in the leg with 2400 RAM.
What said is fine but imo it's personal preferrence. More expensive B350 boards come with better VRM, VRM cooling and features like better sound chip.

Is a good custom 1070ti worth $625 at the moment?

Probably
Not when Vega 56 is $500

Attached: __original_drawn_by_erubo__291da5d759ed9921d3ce11a09498ef42.png (650x854, 267K)

It isn't $500 where I live. I just converted the price to USD, and keep in mind I have to pay VAT as well (about 20%).

Still not worth it
Anyway, you should clarify what currency that's in or we'll all assume you're in the USA

Got a top end threadripper and mobo
Coolers i can look up benchmarks for

But i have no fucking idea what case to get.
Should i just get a cheap one and buy a nicer one later..?

Attached: a thinking emoji as the kiddies say.png (2688x2688, 173K)

>Should i just get a cheap one and buy a nicer one later..?
no switching cases is a HUGE hassle
just buy no cooler/less storage now and then add a cooler or more storage later when you find some more buckaroos

I've got plenty of money, just no time to research the perfect case+cooler at the moment.

I guess i will probably want to move to a really good water cooling solution (presuming the 1950X overclocks well) later on, but was going to start with a simpler cooler for now.

I'll definitely max out all available storage though

the only "perfect" cases are custom build ones.
Just go with a highly rated case that suits your needs & tastes of like 100+$ and you can't go wrong

why do trap posters always have to distract me?its hard to finish researching my build when they're always making me stff

I've built 6 PCs now and I haven't bought a single aftermarket GPU.

>why do trap posters always have to distract me?
That's because you're a gigantic FAGGOT.
I know it's hard, I have the same problem.

Attached: 1510341334158.jpg (700x1000, 79K)

what do you use?

What's the point of buying something you intend to get rid of?
I would buy something that you like a lot even if it's expensive
Sorry about that

Attached: illust_55664562_20180525_201918.png (562x850, 302K)

He knows he makes us rock hard, he'd have no problem servicing all our thick hard cocks since he's such a slut. Probably a cumdump IRL.

All of them are workstations with Titans, reference *80/Tis and Quadros

"hard" indeed!

but how did you get all those gpus without buying them?

State mandated trap bois when?

Attached: 1509865986823.jpg (1024x971, 182K)

whats better? a 60hz 4k monitor, or a 2k with higher refresh rate?

27-inch 1440p@144/165Hz is best for high end gaming

because i wantg to get this build running now and maybe later i want to upgrade it

What is your preferred thermal paste and spread method?

Attached: s-l1000[1].jpg (1000x1000, 34K)

Noctua NT-H1 / Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut with dot method.

Meme graphite pad

Hold your horses
Patience is a virtue
One dot on conventionally sized heat spreaders, for TR4 I would do the 5-dot

Attached: illust_50766505_20180525_202526.png (634x898, 534K)

This thread makes me want to pound boipucci

mx4. pea.

why the fuck would a dot or pea matter? Isn't a pea already a dot?

pcpartpicker.com/list/sb9Xkd any suggestions for this? Trying to aim for a $1000 gaming build.

they're the same thing

You got storage already, i assume? Otherwise you're good.

I have a $2000 budget, but with all the stuff I've been reading about new gpus coming out in a month or two, it has me hesitant to buy now. I'm concerned about the longevity of my machine, and future-proofing as much as possible.

Should I buy now or wait?

If you can wait then wait. What's your current setup? Maybe wait until 2019/20 for Zen 2, GTX 1200 series or new AMD GPU.

Coolermaster MakerGel Master.
Previously NT-H1 (it's only 6.9w/mk vs. 11)
Kyronaut is better rated again at 12.5w/mk - but it's like a shit sticky/tacky goo rather than a paste - I hate spreading it enough to just use the mastergel, which spreads a lot like AS5.

I don't have a current set up, my old pc died 2 months ago and nothing is salvageable save the drives (I want bigger ones anyway.) and the case (which is ugly and I don't really want to reuse.)

why are you spreading it in the first place?

there's always a reason to wait

Well then you have three options:
1. Get a new PC with what's currently available for $2000.
2. Wait until GTX 1100 release, could be another 2-4 months.
3. Get a new PC but maybe you or someone you know has some old GPU you could temporarily use or you find some cheapo used one until new GPUs release.

how long does the makergel last before it needs to be replaced?

Alright I finally set my shit up feels good manes.

Whats the best way to crack Windows 10 nowadays? Inb4 buy a key. Im poor now.

windows 7

I would get a cheaper and faster kit, a P400, a SeaSonic PSU, a NH-U12S SE-AM4 and a cheaper GPU
au.pcpartpicker.com/list/hPRMV6

Yeah, any thoughts on the motherboard? And I'm also thinking of getting a new monitor

I was forgetting if you don't have a HDD you could get a WD Blue and a MX500 500GB or a 970 EVO 250GB for a bit more

No. Just autism.
Worst trend in case design ever.

The bottom isn't even the best place to put the psu.
Generally, the best place is upside-down at the top so it draws air from a top opening in the case and is across 5.25" drives, or the top-front where 5.25" drives would usually go, drawing air from the front and also pulling air into the case.
And a further alternative is over the CPU, facing away, with low profile cooler compatibility only. This is a really efficient use of space, but only popular on ITX.
ONLY in a shallow mini tower is PSU on the bottom best, like the Jonsbo U4.
But case manufacturers care more about trends and perception.

bait

Pretty huge bottleneck.
Most you could go for is a Vega56, or 1070ti (former at current prices), but even then you're going to sometimes bottle neck those. Conservative buy would be RX570 4GB, 1060 6GB, or RX580 8GB and to save toward a CPU upgrade for next year when 7nm comes out.

If 1070Ti costs ~5-10% less or more than Vega56, then yes it is your better buy.
But I'm guessing at that price it's better you get a 1060 6GB or RX570/580.
Even at $500 in the USA, Vega56 is actually currently the best price:performance option. ~61% more money than $315 RX580 8GB for ~75% more performance.

MStoolkit

$460 1080 a good deal?

What's the best value GPU right now? I've been out of the game for a while and as easy as it is, I don't want to pour over charts. Back in the day I got a 2500k for $150 and it lasted me forever, same with an overclocked Radeon 7950. I'm looking for something like that--85% as good as the best, but half the price or less.

I'm buying two for a his and hers setup so cheaper helps, but I can afford a little extra if it makes a big difference.

thanks lads

Attached: pepe 1.png (499x499, 203K)

I should note that I'll probably play at 1080p and I'm using a Ryzen 7 1700, so whatever pairs well with that. I'm thinking a 1060 or a 1070?

All that matters to me is that it stays at 60 FPS constantly.

You could get a 620 EVO to save $30 and a Enthoo Pro M or a P400S

nice OC
yeah doesn't matter if there are b260 boards... 2200G is still objectively better buy since it out performs when overclocked for less money and is a better platform and doesn't have 30 security vulnerabilities.

60hz is not enough. ~75 minimum.

Not sure I'd listen to other user. b350-F strix is one of the best boards. Price doesn't seem bad for your currency.
Also don't get $19 thermal paste when the H7 comes with better stuff. lol.
Is $900 really a reasonable price in your country for a 1080? You can't get Vega56 for notably less?

Also wow you're getting a $900 1080 but cheap 2400MHz RAM?
And what's the NVMe for?

No.
Get better motherboard.
Get a 2600X instead of 2600+$35 cooler.
Don't get a 1060 6GB. Buy a used RX570 or 580 or something off ebay as it's getting flooded with them now. I'm seeing them for close to $200 the past 3 days. Why pay $100 more for a slower GPU?
Spend a little more for a better PSU at that range.
Do you not need an SSD?
ie:
pcpartpicker.com/user/oshirigami/saved/22sd6h
Get an MSI board+2600X combo off Newegg if you want, or get something like the ASRock Master X470. It will technically fit in a matx case if you're madlad. Or change case. Or get mITX board and case.

Attached: ATX in mATX2.jpg (480x640, 60K)

In the USA, new? Vega56 @ $500 seems to be the best price:performance unless you only play heavily, heavily Nvidia favored games.
But if you only play 1080p and don't use DSR/VSR/resolution-scale, RX570s have been near $200 at points making them the best price:performance.

My suggestion though is that even at 1080p, you should be using virtual super resolution or resolution-scale. It renders the game at higher resolution then down samples it which looks a lot better, especially in newer games with shitty anti aliasing.

>2500k
You will bottleneck even an RX570 in a lot of newer games. That CPU can't consistently stay above 60fps minimum unless, maybe, you seriously trim down your OS and what's running on your computer to make it a glorified console.

Do you really not notice any stuttering, hitching, or frame drops? I noticed them with my 7970+2500k the past 3 years and your GPU isn't much worse.

Attached: stutterbridge4.png (806x583, 42K)

I'm using a Ryzen 7 1700, that CPU was just an example of what I was talking about in terms of value

Basically I just want to avoid any frame skipping and keep a solid 60 FPS to whatever extent is possible

and yes USA, but I don't necessarily care if it's new or not

replace that 1080ti with turing

Attached: 2e6.jpg (2048x1536, 310K)

Are there even good games anymore? Why even buy new computer hardware? It's all shit. There is nothing but trash here

because emulating the old ones requires hardware that doesn't exist yet

Attached: angrylion.png (1275x775, 798K)

O right. Well 1700 overclocked will give you an easy 60fps minimum in everything. Usually more like 80-90+ minimums. Obviously more in lighter or more optimized games.

For used GPUs, I'm seeing RX580 8gbs go for near $200 used. That's the best buy and more than you need for 1080p gaming today.
New seems to be Vega 56 now that they're $500. However that's at more like 1080ti power consumption.

It also depends what games you play.
In like GTAV or Watch Dogs 2, the 1070Ti is above the Vega56, and obviously the 1080 as well.
But in most newer games (Doom and other id games, BF1, FC5, The Division, Destiny 2 and lots of other console ports, and oddly Witcher 3 and Fallout 4), Vega56 at worst matches the 1070Ti, and at best with everything overclocked it can match/beta the 1080.

Planet Coaster was ok. And Beat Saber.

there's no other reason to compare consumer GPU and even motherboards, dumbfuck

yeah go pick from 3 CPU choices and fuck off, wow so mature and sensible

8700k n64

every single n64 game is easily emulated at a consistent 60 fps on any modern cpu

this RAM is for sale right now. would it be good with ryzen 2700x and asrock taichi x470? i just don't understand how RAM works at all

Attached: Capture.jpg (762x365, 57K)

lol

>inb4 autismal settings and retarded bullshit

Uhhh it's not that big of a sale. $175-$185 has been normal price for 3200 CL16.
But go for it.

>there's no other reason to compare consumer GPU and even motherboards, dumbfuck
PCs have countless parameters other than "FPS in muh games", and it makes sense to compare them.

pcpartpicker.com/list/N63jHh

Satisfied?

People are just answering what people are coming here for, which is usually building a PC.
If someone has home server type or HTPC questions, they're often answered.
Emulation of specific consoles is... less people have experience of it. But I've seen the new Zelda on Cemu running at 60fps 4k on Ryzen, and most RPCS3 games at 60fps. so idk. I know AMD GPUs can have OpenGL issues in some emu.
