welcome to the linux experience

You're the average Linux user on Jow Forums. That was your initiation.

just download the package using your phone

Check out /var/log/apt/history.log, reinstall what you uninstalled from the cache.

You're welcome.

How would I go about doing that

Will it be there even if it did —purge when removing it

Save your dotfiles, and reinstall then.

Nope. Grab the list from the file (grep remove) and download it from another computer. That's your lesson for purging stuff directly without checking if it works first.

Obviously you'll have to transfer the file using some medium e.g., usb key. A phone might work, but mounting it might be tricky depending on the phone you have (generally the MTP should allow it).

You can manually configure your network connection without a network manager. Are you on a wired or WiFi connection?

I have access to both. I was trying for a while to connect to both via terminal but was too brainlet to figure it out. Do you have a guide I could use?

ive done it before. basically use a different computer to download the needed packages, transfer them over, and install that way

like this

Okay I’ll give this a try too. Luckily I have another computer.

Not too sure that's a good idea, he'll break it even more.
Another option if you installed using a USB key is to use it as the repo for your package manager. Assuming apt, you just have to add it as a source (by default the installer normally comments out the source used when it installed the system, you can just uncomment it, assuming its mounted at the same place).

Wired configuration might be different depending on what distro you're using, but since you said you used purge I'm going to assume it's Debian based.

Lmao how

I recommend USB since its easier, just make sure to format it correctly (FAT32)

go to the package homepage, i.e.
>arch
archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/networkmanager/
>gentoo
packages.gentoo.org/packages/net-misc/networkmanager
>slackware
ftp.osuosl.org/pub/slackware/slackware64-14.2/slackware64/n/NetworkManager-1.2.2-x86_64-2.txz

Oh so I do have a network manager but idk how to fucking use it. I have connman installed

Attached: image.jpg (475x476, 146K)

man nmcli
nmcli c show
nmcli c add

How r u posting right now?

Have you been living under a rock for the past 10 years?

From my other computer.

This shit did nothing.

example of my broadband
nmcli c add \
type gsm \
ifname '*' \
con-name telkampret \
autoconnect no \
apn telkomsel \
user wap \
password wap123 \
gsm.number '*99#'

to use it
nmcli c up telkampret

>I just finished my ricing to my exact wants and needs too
uninstall it then reinstall linux mint then don't rice it and instead get actual work done

put your install usb back in and find the package to reinstall it

My Linux machine is purely for ricing and maybe some minor school work. I have a different computer dedicated to work

I tried this and I think it said I don’t have some of the dependencies or something
Fuck my life I don’t wanna do all the ricing again

Can't you use a live cd and then download the package, then copy and paste into your hard drive, and then make and install?

>Fuck my life I don’t wanna do all the ricing again
just backup your home folder. so even if you completely re-install the whole OS (which is completely unnecessary), just copy your riced home folder back

but seriously just download the network-manager package and put it on a zip-disquette; what is the problem?

OP, what distro are you even using? this is important for us to be able to help you.

also, how did you install it? cd? thumb drive? net install?

But the deps are listed in the apt log, just grep them and pass them to apt for install.

How are you still not done OP?

dude, he clearly doesnt know what grep is, stop being autistic

I can’t even figure out where to get the rift one. I’m such a brainlet. I did pull some .deb file for the default network manager and I got an error when I tried installing

I’m using a fork of Ubuntu called GalliumOS.

Because I don’t know why any of that means

My dick is an Iphone

>I got an error when I tried installing
what was the error?

what did you install from? a thumb drive?

when i say backup your home directory i literally just mean you copy it to a thumb stick

When I tried installed from a usb it says something about my internet connection
God damn why am I so fucking stupid

Attached: image.jpg (540x540, 472K)

I had a .deb file for the network manager and it says pic related

Attached: image.jpg (640x1136, 603K)

>says something
so fucking helpful
what is it fucking saying.
more than likely, network-manager requires other packages, so you need to install those first, *more than likely*

>tried installed
I'm not even english speaker but, 2/10 would not read again

ip link
sudo systemctl enable .service

Attached: bent_neck_3.jpg (400x400, 25K)

well dont click download package. is that what you did? click install package.

you will likely get dependency errors.

I clicked install package you retard

simply download that required 12 packages and install them first before networkmanager

Also start the service or reboot after enabling

Is it being autistic to expect to read the fucking manual, he can google it.

settle the fuck down

now answer this god damn question that ive asked multiple times;
did you install from a usb thumb drive?

Yes I did.

embarassing
install gentoo next time

this
look at what those 12 packages are. then see which ones you need, and get the .debs for all of those

Okay I’ll give this a try

Have you tried this:
?

Attached: 1524170839842.jpg (887x874, 329K)

"Failed to execute operation: No such file or directory"

>now answer this god damn question that ive asked multiple times;
>did you install from a usb thumb drive?
This. OP is a massive faggot.

Attached: 1522870446530.jpg (234x226, 72K)

i just answered you
yes i installed from usb

actually, this is the first time i can see you answering this question. ok, next question...
do you still have the thumb stick?

and when i say do you still have the thumb stick, i mean with the installer still on it

i am trying to make this easy for you OP, but you are ignoring me 80% of the time and being rude the other 20%

yes i have the installer still

Recover 101:

Boot a live linux USB of your choice and connect to the Internet:

sudo -i
lsblk
mount /dev/sdx /mnt
mount --rbind /dev /mnt/dev
mount --rbind /sys /mnt/sys
mount -t proc /proc /mnt/proc
mount --make-rslave /mnt/dev
mount --make-rslave /mnt/sys
chroot /mnt /bin/bash
apt update
apt install -f
apt upgrade -y
apt search NetworkManager
apt install NetworkManager
exit
reboot

Shit? How do I format code again? There's a reason I usually only lurk.

What exactly you typed..?

ricefags, not even once

>
lurk moar

Don'ttell`me`

```
what
```

to do user

> I shall just try everything until I fail less

So what was it?

open your /etc/apt/sources.list file as root
at the top there is likely some commented out lines of your installer CD. uncomment them out.
plug your thumb drive in and mount it (it should just auto mount)

now just try installing network-manager normally. it should look to your installer usb drive as a repository

>orly

stupid fucking gay shit

I got an etror saying special device /dev/sdx doesn’t exist. Am I supposed to fill in x with like a for sda?

howd you do it

kek, this is fucking funny for me. thank you user.

I think I got it to work now? Will report back

OP!
FOR FUCKS SAKE
If you uninstalled NetworkManager then do this:
Find out your network interface name
ip link

Now start service at that interface
sudo systemctl start @dhcpcd.service

FUCKING DONE

THIS DIDNT FUCKING WORK ME ME FUCK HEAD

Like this

%triforce

WHAT THE FUCK YOU TYPED???

It got stuck at 45% after trying to install network manager and said “temporary failure resolving us.archive.ubuntu.com

CAN YOU FUCKING ANSWER EXACTLY WHAT YOU TYPED AFTER READING THIS:

Exactly what you told me to and all the options said failed to start: unit .service not found

Sudo systemctl start [email protected]
No work
Sudo sustemctl start [email protected]
No work

God damnit...
FIRST TYPE THIS:
ip link

In the output you should see your network interface and replace with that name.

sudo systemctl start @dhcpcd.service

If you don't know how your network interface name looks like just post output from ip link

What it says?
Wait a second... Don't tell me you installed devuan instead of debian or ubuntu?

it's a fork of ubuntu called Galliumos

When I do ip link the three interfaces listed are
1. lo
2. enp4s0
3. wlp2s0
in that order

Jesus Christ... Why?

did you try this:

You connect to wifi or wired?

I can connect to either wifi or wired right now
i wouldn't know what i was doing so no
because it seemed like a good idae at the time

>i wouldn't know what i was doing so no
nigga i am asking you to open a single file
why are you making this seem like it is complicated?

So OP you have multiple ways to fix this problem.

Reinstalling from USB repo

Live booting from USB, chrooting with working network connection and installing from internet

Backing up configuration files and reinstalling OS

Manually configuring network connection using wpa_supplicant {or checking to see if wifi-menu is still installed.}

Google away fag.

Gallium is for Chromebooks, so I assume he has a Chromebook.

Kek, this is why the Jow Forums sticky specifically says
> Jow Forums is NOT your personal tech support team or personal consumer review site. For tech support/issues with computers, use /wsr/

failed to save document. permission denied

Like this user said
But instead of type enp4s0

yea, you gotta do it as root

Yes.
I already said I did that
It says "Failed to start [email protected]: Unit [email protected] not found
ok how do i do that

sudo before the command
