I got a HDD out of a CCTV that had (possibly) video of a assult that happened on a property of mine The issue: Checked it on the CCTV it self and the video jumps form XX:XX:00 to XX:ZZ:00
Now i pulled the drive but it has no "recognizable filesystem" i did a hex dump and there is 149.XXGB of data on it but i cant view it on the PC
Any ideas on how to get this footage off in some view able format?
The info on the HD is probably encrypted. This is common on TV HDs.

Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB i think sams club like 18765165 years ago Yes

Trying to mount /dev/sda doesn't work I assume? Try copying the first few blocks of it to a file then running 'file' on it. It might tell you a little bit about it. You can also try "gpart" (not gparted) to try to guess partitions.

have you tried turning it on and off?

So you stole a CCTV system years ago, you've been recording your property with it, but you've never even tried to view the recordings you've been making for years??

yes....... Next step is out the window
I did notice that the HDD that replaced the 160 with is kinda iffy....

you should use a full fat kernel distribution so you have all kernel modules at your disposal.
do hdparm and then install binwalk and run it.

some CCTV footage is encrypted only playable on "specialised" media players, try that maybe

it wasnt stolen XD yes i have viewed but it writes over and over and over and i wanted to pull this drive before it happens now i went to view the date and time and it jumps around form say 22:02:00 to 22:18:00 but when i brought it up on the PC (software is long gone)it would play fine with there software

Dumptext has blocked me and I'm not even European. Upload it to pastebin like a normal person. You should use photorec to pull the video from the drive. It will ignore any filesystem and look for file headers only.
