What does dmesg say when you boot up? Was it crashing in OSX too? What do you mean when you say crashing? Locking up?

Check for cooling issues.
Is the hard drive any good or is it going bad?
Check the RAM, run a memory test, reseat the ram, or boot the system up with a bare amount of (in pairs of 2) memory then keep adding.

What kind of sound does it make when booting up?

OP you need to be more specific to get some IT support here.

Have you replaced the thermal paste yet?

Install Gentoo

probably the dreaded bga desoldering if it's a g5

Most probable is bad ram, you have to run OSX to read the hardware logs.

> installing Debian over lion
Found your issue its retardation

Since I tried (like a retard) to install Debian over the entire disk OSX is only half there, it comes up with this folder with a question mark on it. It was crashing in OSX as well. And when I say crashing I mean it kept freezing and locking up
the RAM seems fine, 8 gbs of it actually. There's a really weird set up though, where the RAM is seperate of the what I think the motherboard is.

These macs have ECC ram, they will crash instantly if they detect uncorrectable errors.
On OSX you can read the logs, but in Linux theres no access to hardware events.

Not even a G5 retard.

>it comes up with this folder with a question mark on it.
It can't locate a boot disk. An issue which pops up on Macs is the hard drive needs its own little Apple firmware and the drive needs to be blessed. Download the image specifically for Macs and reinstall.

Problem is crashing was recurrent even on OSX

Pic related is what I believe to be the problem, what do you guys think?

Shit forgot the image

Those are PCIe slots, it'll work fine without any cards in there.

those macs are sought after still

Those are PCIE slots. RAM doesn't go there, although bad RAM will make your computer randomly lock up. Make sure everything's unplugged and remove all but one of those RAM sticks on the bottom. Reboot and see if the problem persists.

Also does that only have three modules? If that's the RAM bank for both processors that could be your issue. Try setting it up so there's only RAM in every other slot, two modules total.

Not your personal Apple Store, fuck off.

Here’s where most of the RAM
is located if it helps anybody

The CPUs are Socket 1366, they use triple channel memory.
OP, try taking the CPU/RAM carrier (or however Apple calls it, it's the tray with the RAM and the big heatsinks) out of the machine and reseating it.

>carpet
RIP OP's Mac Pro

Just the processor daughterboard

Remove all but one stick of ram and try again

Just remove as many parts as you can while maintaining a working system then build back up from there until you find the fault

unless it's the motherboard lol

I don’t think that applies to PowerMacs

> reinstall os x
> done

I'm on your side

It does. PowerMac G5s had tons of BGA issues. They used plastic pushpins for the chipset heatsinks on the back of the board, so they'd end up breaking and the chips overheated, sometimes to the point of falling straight off the board.

For future concern trolling, G5 Power Macs have a G5 written on the side of the heat sink.

>macshit
Found your problem.

There you go. Was that so hard?

I don't understand why do people get macs when they know from everyone else's experience that they have way too many problems to be actually worth it?

Are people really this stupid?

Superior OS my ass
Now accept the Linux master race and install gentoo

Tell that to the namefag, I know my ppc Macs.

Mactoddlerism and cuckoldry go hand in hand.

It's actually a snap-on cover

So funny, and so original

It's not a joke, it's literally the cause of OP's problem.

t. ex- mac owner

nigger I think you lack understanding, the computer crashes either way, the OS doesn't make a difference

Yeah
Apple went to shit after jobs died
I don't even like Apple and I feel bad for them

It is if you remove that goddamn plastic pin that holds it in place.

Also G4s are best Macs. Just sayin'.

You can't fix it by installing gentoo?
Fuck, I got no clue man
Maybe a pawn shop or computer sales/repair shop can fix it

>Also G4s are best Macs. Just sayin'.
Except they constantly overheat and thermal throttle if you don't dust them daily.

Huh? I use my MDD daily and I haven't dusted it in like three months. Works a treat. It IS loud, very, but I wear headphones anyway.

Reading the OP might help you understand.

I bet you could melt steel beams with those temps

What is that device in the ODD bay?

He just basically said he's a mactoddler and his macshit trash gave up.

>Mac computers introduced before late 2016 make a chime sound when they start up. Mac computers introduced after late 2016 don't have a startup chime, with the exception of MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017).

Steve is spinning in his fucking grave.
