As expected from a Jow Forumsack you have no idea how bad spreading them irregularly like that would be.
Basically you're adding random latency in the most retarded way, there's a reason engineers try to make things as symmetrical and close to each other as possible.
Look at pic for example and where the memory sits and how it's spread around.
Now imagine doing your pic with cache which is infinitely more sensitive to this sort of shit than your average random access memory.

But it's not. If all the chips have in and out connections and you put the cache in the empty area then they connect to them with minimal distance. It wouldn't be much worse than you pic, unless you use all the cores equally at the same time, for a single application which would probably never happen.
