Gpu prices are finally going do-

why would you run you gpu over usb 3 and not thunderbolt?

GPU prices are tied to profitability of mining, not the availability of mining mobos.

More GPUs per mobo = more profit

well, the investment cost will be a little lower since you don't need as many motherboards/CPUs so it will be a tiny little bit more profitable with this rig. On the other hand, you can't probably resell it after mining becomes non-profitable except to someone that needs a GPGPU solution similar to mining coins.

It's getting less profitable right?

I guess thunderbolt doesn't offer an advantage for mining rigs so they went with the cheaper option.

all the cheap chinky pcie x1 extenders use usb cables, don't think they use usb protocol though?

Because it's not really USB. They just use the connector because it's rather sturdy and reliable even at distance, but the protocol used is PCIe.

probably retaining computational data on the GPU to minimize bandwidth use across shitty pcie x1

GODDAMMIT ASUS YOU ABSOLUTE RETARDS!

you think asus gives a shit who buys their stuff? the market goes where the money is

Doesn't mean they also aren't retarded.

Silly question however, I would like your viewpoint. A lot of people purchase GPUs for the purpose of gaming. Does the rising prices of GPUs mean a decline in sales for PC?

Wow. Its like seeing an alien vagina for the first time...

>Come here baby, lemme ping a few ports for ya...

Im curious if this would have any application for gpu rendering? Maybe its a retarded question but could someone explain why/why not itd be worth looking into.

>20 GPUs
How? Don't most CPUs only have 16 PCIe lanes?

>the virgin GPU
>the chad ASIC

They shouldn't have colored it fucking blue then.

all usb3 ports are blue
they went for usb3 ports because they have enough pins, the cables are suitable for pcie transmissions, and they're plentiful/cheap
they'd have to make them custom if they wanted another colour, and if you're going to do that, there's not much point in it being usb shaped at all

Not all are blue.

Some retard is going to buy this and think it's normal USB ports.

either way, changing the colour doesn't change much, it'd still look like and physically accept a usb plug, so it'd be no less likely for someone to mistake it for being usb compatible
these are very much specialty items, so those buying them should understand what they are

They colored it blue to make sure you used a usb3 capable extender/riser cord

If they pay THAT much for a Motherboard and can't comprehend that it's simply an interface for PCI-Express then they're retarded.

1. they're not 'usb3 capable'
2. there's no such thing as a pcie riser that uses a usb1/2 connector/cable, since those have too few conductors

Have you ever set up a mining rig before? You need two cables, the basic riser to pcie-usb and a usb3 extension cable so you can rack mount the gpus. The coloring is to prevent retards from using a usb2 extension cable

No that's not how it works, user
