This thread is about the appreciation of watches, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
It wont be my only watch but it might be my only luxury watch
Carson Gutierrez
Thanks, that was a nice review
Ryder Flores
>JDM watch >44mm Aren't japs really small?
Charles Thompson
Oh, I got you. I am planning on something like that too. My collection is going to be like: >A lot of rare japanese shitters >Sinn 556 later upgraded to a rolex later upgraded to a h. Moser or something
Hudson Myers
H moser? I dont know about them desu
Isaac Jackson
Why is /wt/ the only watch related "forum" that is not giving me aids, even with all the trolls and non-watch newfriends? Reddit is full of tgv and seiko fanboys. Facebook groups are 100% shitter-fests.
Jackson Ross
So what you prefer is a forum that doesn't like seiko? But there are plenty of seiko lovers in here.
Owen Jenkins
youtu.be/Sz7ONq5Kekk This video really got to me. It's one of the cheapest ways to get into modern haute.
Jackson Torres
>have owned Rolex, Omega, JLC, Tudor >favorite watch is still Seiko SKX
I think some has to do with the chan format, which I think is much better than forums and way better than Reddit. There's also a lot of deep specialized knowledge here (Seiko, Russian watches, electric watches, vintage Omega, etc) that tends to help prevent it from devolving into watchuseek-style 50 threads per day of "help me decide between these two watches"
Cameron Bennett
are there any good replicas or chink watches
Owen Hill
No. You missed the point. There is not a single problem with seikos, in fact I bought my penis quartz yesterday. However shilling any brand because muh horde mentality makes me sick and the fuckers on reddit love doing that. The thing I like about /wt/ is how horology masterminds here state the things that are wrong with a certain watch or brand very unbaised.
Sebastian Morales
>There's also a lot of deep specialized knowledge here (Seiko, Russian watches, electric watches, vintage Omega, etc) This is exactly why I love this place.
This must be some self wank joke. I can go to any other watch forum and discover a dozen new watches each day.
This place just circle jerks the same 5 meme watches each month and that one underaged faggot who keeps emulating that cringey youtuber.
Michael James
Panerai anyone? yes, i know they are a brand without substance, overpriced as fuck etc but i really like the look and i'm not a wristlet i think they look especially sexy on a bracelet post pics if you actually own one pls?
There's also some big gaps too, unfortunately. Would be awesome if someone in wt became an expert in vintage chrongraphs, for example. There's some expertise in vintage Rolex references but not fantastic. Also not really a lot of depth in early American watchmaking (Illinois, Hamilton, Waltham, Bulova, etc).
>discover a dozen new watches each day >Same 5 meme watches Please go to those forums and stay there.
Jacob Hall
It's good but the hype tax makes it really overpriced for what it is.
Josiah Parker
Naturally there is, I think there is around 10 or so guys who are regulars with a lot of knowledge on certain areas.
Ian Hall
I have yet to meet a SKX owner that actually fucking dives.
Isaac Gutierrez
Noice.
The zippo is lighter fedora. It's also bad for cigars because it imbues their gas taste into it.
Use butane lighters/matches/electric lighters instead
David King
Right.
Jace Morales
> The only reason to want a watch with a timing bezel and good water resistance is for diving I have yet to meet a motfm speedmaster owner who went to the moon.
Jackson Wilson
Speedmasters were not made for the moon. Dive watches are made for diving. Your comparison is retarded, and so is anyone wearing a diver that isn't diving.
Julian Miller
Has anybody actually used watchfinder.co.uk? Where do you faggots go for hard to find watches?
If you never use it for it's intended purpose, it's literally wasted on you.
Jackson Cox
>hard to find watches Like what? Usually eBay watch list and wait. I have watches I've waited well over a year to show up.
Jayden Watson
>I have yet to meet a motfm speedmaster owner who went to the moon.
lel fucking rekt. how will ever user come back from this?
Jack Johnson
So if i dont use my Bulova spaceview to explain how the 214 movement works then its a waste of a watch then? Jokes on you I love telling people how that autistic movement works.
Thomas Gutierrez
Hm I don't time artillery strikes either, better throw this away too.
Thanks user, this is really helping consolidate my collection.
Most salespeople are not autists. Have you ever had a fucking autist try and sell you anything? I should know, being an actual autist.
Carter Watson
Not all retailers know anything about watches, that much is apparent after only coming here occasionally
Luke Ramirez
Um um um but user reversos were made for playing polo. If you're just wearing it as a dress watch you are literally wasting it. I don't know how to make this clearer.
Liam Reed
Working at my uncles restaurant in Japan yes 99% of salesmen are autists. In the us our suppliers at our utility are about 75% autistic about what they sell. I just come under that assumption just from personal experience. I would think the same for a specialized higher market.
David Cox
Going to my local watch store in Queens, New York. Any G-Shock Recommendations?
Definitely not true in the us at least. The majority of salespeople are employed strictly as luxury good salespeople, with only minimal training in watches. Plenty of sales people come from jobs at places like Nordstrom's, Hermes, LV, etc. Boutiques tend to be a little better than third party sellers like wempe, tourneau, etc.
Joshua Brown
>be me >buy SKX and actually dive with it >Shitty bracelet breaks (no idea how) lose it on dive >go on second dive to find it and get lucky >get repaired at Seiko AD on GU >AD puts wrong size endlinks and scratches watch to shit >Complain and don’t get charged >wear it on strap for a month >watch randomly starts gaining 3-5 min a day when it’s < a year old. >toss it in drawer and buy dive computer from friend
The worst watch I’ve owned. Been looking at a Rolex 116610LV now but I haven’t been diving in years so maybe a GMT.
Pic related I use my MOTM as a mission timer and back up to my G-Shock.
Jeeze, the people from Mitsubishi electric their salesmen memorize the whole spec sheet. Our engineers can't even do that. Guess that's a damn shame I guess.
Jack Lewis
Do you like the cushion case about the SAEK or the 200m air diver spec on the 013/015? Because while the 8R is great, the 6S in some of the Credor chronos and (more important) the SAEH Anantas is finished better and with its fine adjustment screw you could further improve its accuracy. I see SAEKs and SAEHs for similar prices on ebay, just be sure to double check on rakuten or yahoo.jp if stores list on both sites. Often ebay prices get inflated, or worse some stores on ebay just act as middlemen posting the same ads with identical pictures and description from the JP auction listing on their own ebay account with a chunky markup. green-disk and japanese-shop are two bads I remember. The big shops like Deal, closer, and hiroki-japan have dual listings usually with fair prices on both, ebay sometimes 3-10% higher, but nothing like the +$300-$800 like the copy-listers.
Owen Hughes
but that guy said his was butane
Liam White
Maybe it got magnetized.
That's not how they market them, nor how they look.
Landon Thompson
nice. I love the look of spaceviews. Having the date is very useful though.
I hear good things about the 6S but the saek13 really nails the look I want, namely a submariner-style chrono. If you know of a saek013 for sale please link it I'm not too concerned about markup.
Jace Sullivan
Agreed. It's a shame so many of the date mechanisms from that era are so fragile and break so routinely.
Ayy I'm at the publix I'll admit this movement is so much fun to talk about. The 214 is a marvel of engineering. Also it fits wristlets like me quite well.
