>github is social media, not source code control
Yes

No. People should realize how dramatically different Microsoft's moves in regards to developers since Natella took over.

They don't want people to leave GitHub chances are they aren't going to do anything to fuck it up.

That's proof R. Graham has a vagina.

Literally who

What is skype?

>pic is real
Fucking retard.

> supposedly
according to who, exactly?
> MySpace taking over Facebook
holy shit you retard. MySpace doesn't have more money than Facebook, and MySpace&Facebook are in the same market. You would have to try really hard to be more wrong than this.

>social media for NERDS

What is Xamarin? What is Mojang?

Jokes on them, I already moved all my company's and personal repos to gitlab.

All proprietary, closed-source solutions. Next argument.

I cringe at everyone who calls themselves "geek" or "nerd".
That's fucking stupid.

Wow did you really post this tweet unironically?

remember skype for android?

I'm glad Github is being bought now

Huh? github.com/xamarin

lul

Literally who?

SJW were the end of Github

Is it how or Freedom ends?

I still remember Skype for GNU/Linux...

So where we go now?

Gitlab

Acquired before Natella and not geared towards developers.

Pretty clear Microsoft's new business plan is to get in the open source world and make money off of data.

M$ purchasing Mojang is what made me finally stop being a server owner for Minecraft. They don't care about freedom to play, they wanted to stop getting complaints from shitty parents and so they limited my ability to monetize my work.

GitHub with Cortana confirmed

Thats kind of fucked up isnt it?

welcome to capitalism

Why?

I could see microshaft doing a culling of homebrew too.

Look at all the big companys who have made it their mission to make money of user data, facebook and google specifically. Do we really need another titan doing the same all the while hoarding all that community made code? Seems like a disaster to me.

But so is GitHub...

Literally anyone can already datamine all the public repos on github.

RIP GitHub
Hail GitLab

>GitLab
better keep backups handy

This.it was already compromised

>put up public information for anyone to see
>compromised
That's not what that word means.

>myspace taking over facebook
what

How do you think free stuff works? Nothing is free in life?

I prefer this business model over the costly one.

I think the NSA is the big nefarious agent when it comes to data collection. Microsoft is not going to risk selling and using data for nefarious purposes. The only problem I have with the data from big tech companies is I know it's getting handed to the government.

>Implying that Microsoft don't send user data to NSA and the government.

That's what I said. But that's the a problem with the government/NSA primarily.

It's not like they don't have a wealth of information anyways.

It always surprises me greatly that people who work on open source projects care about data privacy.

They seem to want a world where all software is open and public.
I'm trying to imagine a world where all information is public and it doesn't seem that bad.

Outside of the obvious "post your credit card if you have nothing to hide", what information of mine is truly worth keeping a secret from anyone. More importantly, what of that information is even unique.
>user jerks off to asian crossdressers
>user likes technology
>user buys these products
>our machine has determined a pattern based off of this data
Truly a nightmare where everyone knows my masturbation habbits and my ads are personalized. A world where everyone is implicitly open and honest, where we stop asserting importance to arbitrary facts.

I'm sure there can be a fault detected here, but I'm not seeing an obvious one.

they managed to kill Minecraft, one of the most popular and successful video game titles of all time. I imagine they'll be very efficient at killing GitHub.

Wtf keep microshit away

github is closed source user

kids these days

>user doesn't care if he gets raped
>Therefore there is nothing wrong with rape
Get your brain checked, dumbo.

Spotted the Microshill

Agreed. MSFT has been doing a lot recently to win developer mindshare: VS Code, Linux Subsystem, open sourcing .NET Core, not fucking w/ LinkedIn, etc. It's unikely they'd do anything drastic with GitHub (immediately, at least).

thanks god that happened so people could finally stop using gitbotnethub

Attached: gitlab.jpg (750x500, 69K)

That's a misconstruction of what I said. Physical acts are not information facts.

He's arguing against Microsoft bud.

Xamarin is an example of where Microsoft bought them out to make them open-source and free.

Being critical of capitalism does not automatically make one a communist you wumpus

I'm not following. How does Mojag fit that argument? I think the argument is every M$ acquisition turns to shit.

That's wasn't a criticism, it was a generalized disapproval, and most people that shit on it in such a casual manner are typically commie cockroaches.

At the very least they didn't ruin it.

>why hello there fellow geeks

I like GitHub though. It has a simple interface that most people can quickly navigate when I want to show them stuff I worked on. Bitbucket and GitLab have pretty bad interfaces, even if there are more features. GitHub was cool because it encouraged people to actually produce open source programs, even if they were "helloworld.c" type stuff.
Shame that MS has to ruin everything for everyone.

I think github needs to improve their UI especially for large diffs and blames. They should have a conflict UI too.

What are they ruining though? Why is everyone assuming this is the end of the gittoobs? Microshaft will probably just keep it the same and integrate it with devops stuff on azure.

This is M$ we're talking about here...

Skype went to shit
Windows gradually went to shit
Word went from a standard flat fee to a subscription service
All the attempts at promoting open source that are half assed and not a well thought out idea, regardless of the product's actual quality
History has a pattern of repeating itself, user. They'll either buy it, integrate ads and spyware but leave it mostly the same or revamp it into something horrible. The subscription model some anons above proposed don't seem too far out.

how many projects that microsoft has overtaken and NOT ruined can you name?

And what perspective they have on open source could be seen in their CodePlex-EULA ;)

You realize they bought Xamarin solely to open-source it and make it free right?

Since Natella took over they have worked on/open sourced 5 different projects and have been appeasing developers.

ITS ON

about.gitlab.com/2018/06/03/microsoft-acquires-github/

>Congralutation Github
i think its being sarcastic

MySpace buying Facebook would unironically be a good thing.

I want to punch that retarded bag of cocks in his smug shit eating face.

I moved all my personal projects to my personal website. All source code is now stored as simple static text files. New major version? New subdirectory for the project with a new number. This is how I'm doing things from now. People who want to submit fixes can email me them. GitHub was worthless swipple shit anyways.

What is windows 10?
Every time I got back to my windows 7 machine it feels like an upgrade

Oh shut the fuck up, niggers like you offering the possibility for kids to pay $50 a month for overpowered stuff, leaving every player who doesn't want to pay in the dust make the game unplayable. Hosting a Minecraft server is piss easy

Attached: images (1).jpg (259x194, 16K)

Why is everyone slobbing on Github's knob all of sudden ? They make you pay $7 A MONTH just to have private repository. Hosting companies give out fucking gigs worth of storage and on github you are just uploading a few mbs at most of text.

github has always been the expensive jew based site.

I know right, this faggot just is so smig about it all, literally being like "okay normskies, i know this is all foreign to you so listen to what i have to say because I am a pro in internet delicts"

What a fucking shitfuck

Attached: Yoddler_334_MEDIUM.jpg (600x499, 46K)

>t. cum juggler

Pretty sure hes joking though

>They make you pay $7 A MONTH just to have private repository.
jokes on you they gave me unlimited private repositories for free and I don't even use github

You're what we call a CHAD around here.

isn't that what your local repos are for?

i'm all for open flow of information that's of a public nature. eg: software, research, art, music, etc. i'm not for the open flow of peoples private information such as personal data on their computer, their browsing habits, their kinks, their finances, their family photos.

pretty spooky that microsoft will be able to censor some of the stuff there
