I rate it 4/5, I could use more storage and more battery life. I would've liked a glossy screen like my old Gateway 8510gh. No HDMI is meh. Love the kb and overall design.

4, bretty good no major complaints

>ignoring screen, as when hooked up to external display: 3/5 (poor thermal cooling due to tiny heatpipe and fan, need to disassemble entire laptop to change thermal paste, but otherwise good, serviceable laptop with non-chiclet keyboard and godly trackpoint)
>include screen: 1/5, horrid eye-cancer TN blue panel
But I will never use a laptop that isn't serviceable, doesn't have a trackpoint, has a chiclet keyboard, and has no coreboot/libreboot/me-cleaner support, which puts the X220 at a solid 5/5 if the modern alternatives are considered.

Acer aspire v nitro. 3/5. Even though it's exactly what I wanted(cheap laptop with decent performance) the battery has degraded very fast. The cooling solution surprisingly is excellent - I broke one of the fans during cleaning but it still works fine and is even suitable for gaming.

Eh....like a 6-7 I guess.

Now I wish I could find a good T60/T61 because 16:10 12" is actually dumb for daily use. Make it 4:3 14.1" and it is only a little bit wider but you get some actual vertical space. Make it 4:3 15" and you can fit two blocks of code side by side (just a bit tight but good enough, vertical split is unreadable on 12" 16:10).

Why the fuck would you ever need 16gb on a laptop, with fucking Linux?

To be honest, the X series isn't very servicable. You need to take apart most of your laptop to replace the thermal paste it.

I only upgraded to ssds last year and I can never go back. Even a low end chink grenade is preferable now, HDDs are for bulk storage only. Luckily thinkpad has good vibration deadening on the drive cage, my cheap laptop that just screws directly to the casing has a louder drive than fan.

XPS 13 9350

4/5 the small frame and long battery life is exactly what I wanted out of it. In terms of portability it's the best laptop I've ever owned. It's also enough to handle all of my daily use cases when I'm not at home. Would buy again.

Toshiba Satellite C655

Has 0 use as a laptop because the battery is shot. Basically just a small slow computer, but if that's what I wanted I can just use a phone which is smaller, has a battery, and slightly better hardware.

Linux support ootb is excellent, it's light, battery life is decent, it runs below 45°C most of the time, it's dead silent, build-quality is pretty outstanding considering its price: I've been looking for a light small laptop which can handle basic work and simple multitasking and this laptop basically fits all my requirements.
My only little complain is the keyboard, the keys on this guy have very short travel compared to the mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX blue swtiches I use every day, but after some work I'm getting used to it.
