Logical Increments was a good idea but the implementation is pretty poor. Builds are often pretty bad for various reasons and slow to include new hardware

yeah but they at least give a guideline and a basis that can be expanded on for each price point
Gabriel Cook
No it wasn't; this one was created at 00:22 while the other one was created at 00:24. Are you stupid?
You can also order by creation date in the catalog after searching for pcbg and you can see that this thread is closer to the old thread and therefore created earlier

Is it a good idea at all to put my ~10 year old heatsink (Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme Rev.A, currently sitting on X4 955) on a 2700X? Asking before I waste too much time finding out if there is a mounting kit available for it. Seems like Thermalright is offering AM4 kits for free even, but I'm not sure if they go back that far in compatibility. If they don't or the heatsink itself can't handle Ryzen then I'll just go with the stock Wraith Prism for now.
is it worth upgrading from an i3-3220/4gb 1333mhz ram to xeon e3-1230v2/8gb 1600mhz ram? it will cost me around us$250 in my 3rd world shithole; programming and light online games like pubg, path of exile and cs:go that's what I'm gonna use it for
Eli Diaz
Keep in mind newfriends this is the same resident Intel shill that said 32c thread ripper 2nd Feb was a "nothingburger" and that the turbohousefire 28c Cascade lake i9 will be faster
>is it worth upgrading from an i3-3220/4gb 1333mhz ram to xeon e3-1230v2/8gb 1600mhz ram? Absolutely. More often than not, if there's a Xeon processor compatible with your platform, it's usually the most cost effective upgrade if you've got anything short of an i7.
I think this kid has a skewed idea on how to use GPUs for mining...
Mason Murphy
Or you could just look at the post numbers.

A couple 1070tis are (at least currently) selling for less than a regular 1070. Im talking less well known manufacturers like inno3ds x4 or KFA2 ex, full size cards, no mini, for 470€ while a regular 1070 non ti strix, MSI Gaming or like a zotac Amp are going for 510-20€ What the fuck is up with that? Saving 40€ and getting a stronger card while just sacrificing some better cooling? Sounds too good to be true
Easton Stewart
can anyone recommend a good 1440 monitor? Preferably lower than $500 and priority to 144 refresh rate over IPS
Why are monitors over 60Hz so desired when you most likely dont get more than 60fps in the modern games you play? Is it just an ultra high end meme or is it to hit the exact frame that has just been calculated?
Gavin Kelly
Most movies are 24 Hz and 60/24 does not divide evenly. So you have two options: a) Run your display at 24 Hz b) Choose a multiple of 24 Hz, e.g. 144
Nathan Evans
Jow Forums approved mainboard manufacturers? Asrock any good? X370 pro4 ist decently priced atm
Lincoln Cruz
Movies? I never had issues with watching movies on my PC But like thats a very niche reason to spend 200 extra especially if you probably have a bluray capable ps4 and a huge ass TV standing around
Daniel Jenkins
CS:Go
High refresh rate is an esports meme

>tfw can't do win7 usb-iso driver injection on crosshair 6 tried using the ez installer tool tried injecting every possible usb3 driver from the latest chipset drivers off the support page tried the standalone "here are some usb drivers" also from the support page also tried disabling xhci handoff in all cases no matter what i do m/kb do not work on the win7 install screen does anyone know what else i should be trying? i've done this before on a different motherboard and the injection worked on the first attempt from its chipset drivers

Install GNU+Linux

There's a huge difference in overall feel and smoothness when using your pc outside of games too, which is really where you spend most of your time shitposting on Jow Forums
Jordan Sanders
I need my buttery smooth shitposting
Also, if the game supports 144hz, my pc can run it at 144hz. Higher settings typically just results in eye cancer or gives you a visual disadvantage in competitive games.
>Jow Forums approved mainboard manufacturers They are all cost competing shit now days.
Look at individual boards rather than brands.

I have roughly $820 USD to spend pcpartpicker.com/list/MjGPJ8 that my start, I know I haven't been able to choose much, im not sure what parts I can safely reuse from my current PC for at least a limited time so that I can get better parts. The graphics card seems good for the price and Im trying to game with high graphics with a 144 ghz monitor. I want games like over watch and the new WoW expansion to look great. I have "hybrid" hard drive ssd thing that im hoping to re use for larger storage but id like to get a real SSD as well.
Is there a difference between ryzen 2600 x and 2600 that matters?
Is running on a free windows ten inactivated a problem?
can I reuse a case? Its about 2 years old but has no issues im aware of.
Sorry, I feel really inept when it comes to this sort of thing and I really want to be able to have a build that I can enjoy. Thank you for any help, its much appreciated.
Jeremiah Davis
Basically flawless build tbf. I'd only change the psu for a Seasonic Prime, but that's just because I'm a fanboy
also I know I wont ba able to get everything I want for 820 but I can buy more parts later I would just like to start there. Ill likely have to skip the SSD for now as an example.
Matthew Garcia
>can I reuse a case? Its about 2 years old but has no issues im aware of.
The case is supposed to last you a lifetime, just give it a thorough cleaning before assembling the new parts.
What standard is it though? matx or atx?
Yeah and also you should skip the ssd for now, $98 for a 250gb is a bad deal to begin with, you should always go 500gb unless you plan to use a secondary drive for games.
Wyatt Brown
And please give some more info about your system, post a speccy screenshot or take a photo of the internal components.
You can safely reuse old components if they are compatible and in good shape.
Aiden Rodriguez
The 1060 3gb is 100 dollars cheaper than that card and runs everything today at 1080p and max-near max settings 60 fps+
Mid range cards won't really push 144hz without severely lowering settings, and if you do Nvidia cards are tried and true for max frames at lower settings than AMD cards
Why are you buying m.2? there are 500 gb SSDs for 110-120 bucks
The r5 1600 is a bit cheaper and won't bottleneck anything gaming with mid range cards
Where did this meme that an SSD is something you skip to save money come from? What the fuck? There are way better options to cheap out on than an SSD.
Carter Stewart
Because SSD is not even necessery. Who cares if your shit load 5 seconds later
Its this tower. Im having a really hard time understanding which mother board and ram I should get, is 16 GB of ram good enough for what I want to do and is it fine to just go for the cheapest ram that matches the motherboard I choose?
The mother board is a gigabyte 970 am3+ socket, ill have to look it up.
Would you not reccomend 144hz for what im trying to do? Can I manage 120 or something maybe?
A 3gb card seems qay worse than an 8 to me. Am I just a mongoloid? I mention saving on an ssd due to already having a hard drive I could use and a 120 gb SSD that I could use until I can afford a 500 gb drive or something. That would in effect increase my budget.
Dylan Walker
You're paying $20 more for an OC you can do yourself. Also why are you buying Gigashit? If you're going to buy nvidia, EVGA, Asus, or nothing.
Carter Cook
My current build freeses a lot and I dont know why. Requires a restart each time.
Levi Lewis
looking for good and cheap 1.770w cooler
Thomas Powell
Sorry, thats not me (the person asking for help) as I said in another reply though, its just that I have soms other memory i can use for now. Thank you for your help.
Michael Reyes
I was recommended that card last thread. Whats wrong with gigashit? Bad customer service? Bad products? What card would you recommend then?
You can push those high framerates in stuff like overwatch and csgo with a mid range card, but not much else.
The thing with the VRAM is that games actually have to use it for it to make a difference, which they kind of don't ((((AT 1080P)))) If you mostly just want to play overwatch and WoW 8gb of vram is absolute overkill. You might have to go from SUPER MAX ULTRA to high in some games but that's about it
Other's won't agree but I think a 120 gb is fine, they're super cheap at like 30 bucks and easy to fit in to a budget, and you can fit the OS (the most important) and maybe even a game or too (especially smaller games like overwatch) easily.
Admittedly I haven't really looked into those hybrid things, I don't know what they're like.
Ryder Rodriguez
Also always remember to look at benchmarks and things to choose what you want yourself instead of relying on faggots here to give you accurate info. Don't take info from here at it's word.
Charles Richardson
Pic related. I've never had a single Gigabyte product that I didn't regret. Motherboards, video cards, even stupid little adapters always fail me in some way.
I think this price is around the same of yours in Maple bucks
You have a good core pc here, then you can just add things afterwards. You didn't include what PSU you have but I take it that it works.
Anthony Gomez
That card costs $470 with shipping plus tax
way too much for my blood. i'm already going over my budget by $100 (original budget $300 but I'm thinking it's worth it going from 3gb to a 6gb). I don't think I can stomach another 100 user
is it worth it to get an aftermarket cooler for an r9 290? the middle fan started rattling lately
David Thomas
So I'm completing my build, and I noticed that one of my top exhaust fans is partially obstructed by the fan + radiator combo I have at the rear.
This is definitely a product of having such a compact case. Could this be an issue down the line?
Asher Adams
pcpartpicker.com/user/Hipocrates1780/saved/DRk4CJ this is my current build (I think) it says that it has a problem? if im dealing with this problem now how would I know? Thank you again for your help.
Unless they actually clash, it's just going to slightly reduce the fan's performance. You're probably good.
Angel Williams
It was like, early 2016? thank you for the suggestion.
Christopher Lopez
If that problem was affecting you your PC wouldn't boot.
Kevin Sanders
I didn't realize it was that much more in Canada.Well if you have no choice, you can always go with the single fan version of the EVGA 1060. Has a boost of 1708MHz.
My friend who builds PCs for friends says buying used is a fucking terrible idea. Instead he suggested a similarly priced alternative, which is an i3 8300 and a GTX 1050, but with no SSD
Andrew Jenkins
>It was like, early 2016?
FX had been dead for years, Skylake had rolled out and Haswell was on constant sale.
God damn fanboys shitting up peoples builds. At least Ryzen is good but holy shit was that constant policing back in the day annoying.
And yeah that psu is good, overkill for sure but it werks. Next step is a large, good SSD.
Christopher Clark
we were supposed to be done with this shit by now. make it stop anons. plis.
I've got 500 bucks to spend on amazon for an entry level gaming pc (monitor + tower), any suggestions? inb4 buy a ps4 I'm running a 24" 8bit 1920x1080 60 hz with an amd apu sporting a radeon r5 ( it's an imac look-alike from hp from couple years ago).
Aaron Moore
Passive cooling system, presumably. Or "less active" anyways.
Oliver White
That's dope, though it'd be relatively easy to construct something functionally similar yourself I suppose.
Daniel Cooper
holy fug. ddr4 5000mhz. that'll be upwards of 1k for sure.
i meant per stick, and yet I still feel like I'm being overly conservative.
Jeremiah Powell
I installed a new motherboard, cpu and ram last night and noticed a strong coil noise. Only new mobile part is the AMD Wraith Spire cooler, does anyone else get audibly buzzing coil whine with it?
Jose Parker
It's weird how silverstobne and lian li faded into the background so hard. They used to be the blindly go to brands for premium things pre 2010. They're barely ever mentioned nowadays.
Jaxon Bell
did anyone else spend a bunch because ebay is 20% off?
Jackson Green
>5000mhz ram I prefer my lifetime warranty tyvm
Brayden Sullivan
My disabled younger brother wanted my help building a computer. I've asked him to research and design a build to the best of his capabilities, he came up with this build as a result. pcpartpicker.com/list/HHHygw
I can't seem to find anything wrong with it (It'll just be for basic 1080p gaming I think?) but does anyone here have any suggestions. He does tend to struggle with working memory so I don't know if he'd be the best at comparing components to each other.
I'd appreciate any advice
Owen Jones
By the way, I'm giving him my old video card (Radeon r9 380) so modifying that isn't really an option
Jeremiah Hughes
fucking hell, another one. and lol, those colorful motherboards look like a bad joke.
>Full PCIe x16 ports instead x4 ports Why? sounds like a stupid design, its a mining board after all.
Logan Reed
CPU is shit, get a 1600/2600, even a 2200G makes more sense. You dont need thermal paste, also not overpriced one out all things. DO NOT BUY A320 motherboards. Get a Corsair 200R, cheaper case. Remove windows.
Connor Phillips
somehow I feel like those biostar and asrock have better appeal towards retards. Kinda because it looks less daunting than pci risers and specialty connectors mess. They're going for the low hanging and late fruit after all.
i've read a lot of good stuff about the Kingston, what makes it worse than the Samsung Evo
Christopher Foster
I'm looking for a 1080p, < 23", 60hz, IPS monitor. I have always gone with something from Dell's lineup because I like the colors, but I was wondering if anyone else offers anything comparable to Dell's P series or ultrasharp monitors these days.
