Am I a retard for using ANC headphones while driving? My reasoning for that is mostly that I want to spare my hearing from the loud road noises and turn down the volume, instead of trying to drown it under even louder voice/music from the car speakers.

The STAX brutalist asthetic is undeniably equal parts beautiful, innovative and genius.

Even if you know nothing about headphones (or earspeakers) and you see a pair of STAX Lamdas, you'd instantly know that something was up with them, that they were *special*.

Other headphones just don't do that, a headphone noob might be able to tell that the HD600s or HD800s were special because of their size, or that a pair of Planar Magnetic headphones are unique due to their weight, but neither of those headphones are quite as immediately revealing as STAX to their luxary and the prestigiousness that comes with owning one.

It's allowed around where I live. The law is kind of loose regarding it. It basically just says that you can't use audio stuff in a way that would distract you from using the vehicle properly.

When you have ANC that has flat -26dB or so across the hearable spectrum and use it to listen to an audiobook, it's seriously no less of a hearing impairment than listening from speakers with volume turned up. And probably way better sound quality thanks to reduced noise.

Yeah, law is retarded here, it's fine to blast music loud enough to not hear any outside cars of buzzes, but god forbid hearing headphones while driving.
I don't think cops know the difference between open and closed headphones either.

I asked questions about L*00 series when they were released, and asked some things again half year ago, before finally buying my setup. Got lots of good responses from Stax owners here.
Stax was always here. New limited model only helped with spreading awareness.

Takstar pros 82, they're slightly v shaped (but the bass doesn't bleed into the mods so they're still very accurate) and they're closed back so they get fatiguing and hot after a while, but they're still very good.
