Windows 8.1

what's the consensus on 8.1 compared to 10? I've never used it, does it have the same cancer as 10?
does it come with unnecessary microsoft apps?
does it have the cancerous "settings", separate from control panel?
does it have ads in the start menu?

Anyone willing to talk about it usually has a strong opinion, and those with strong opinions have the worst opinions. Those who go "meh, it is/isn't that great" far outnumber the strong opinionated which would make them the concensus. But they won't post because they don't really care.

win 7 ultimate sp1 then disable updates this is the perfect os don't waste your time with 8.1

The window border is too big in Windows 8

this

Windows 8.1 with Classic Shell is pretty good. Not as good as 7 but at least better than 10.

It's Windows 7 with speed improvements but without the botnet

this.
windows7 is slow and laggy as fuck on new hardware compared to win81

>does it have the same cancer as 10?
no
>does it come with unnecessary microsoft apps?
what's unnecessary to you?
>does it have the cancerous "settings", separate from control panel?
kind of but its barely used for anything
>does it have ads in the start menu?
no

this, but home premium has less bloat

>using v4 E5 on 7
>feels lighting fast, benchmarks as expected
the fuck you saying lmayo
real Jow Forumsentoomen forced to use windows use professional and disable the bloat
the only case where i'd recommend using 8.1 is with a laptop that came with 8 ... use it with classic shell and all settings/corners/etc... disabled

it's a heck of a lot faster and lighter than either 7 or 10. updates aren't quite as awful
it has a hideous interface though. it's ok if you can put up with that.

>Windows
Go to /v/ or /toy/ this is a technology board.

I've disabled Windows Update since 2016 and my programs started to crash on launch, updated it again a week ago and all of a sudden everything works again.
I believe a .dll file was updated. Why has Microsoft done this?

>does it have the same cancer as 10?
Not really. Some updates include telemetry but it's a tiny fraction of the cancer
>does it come with unnecessary microsoft apps?
Some, since it was marketed for tablets.
>does it have the cancerous "settings", separate from control panel?
It does have a separate settings panel, but it's much less useful, you don't need to ever touch it and no option on the control panel is replaced so no reason to worry.
>does it have ads in the start menu?
Nope. Unless the live tile for the store that shows you apps to buy annoys you too much in which case you can just remove it from sight.

is there a way in 7 to get the taskbar on all my monitors without it looking and feeling buggy

If you want 8.1 minus the bloat then get win server 2016

>why
because they're jews, next time try spotting the error and downloading only the necessary update manually, your windows update should always be disabled

>Not really. Some updates include telemetry but it's a tiny fraction of the cancer

all telemetry from 10 has been ported back to 8 and 7

If you decide to install those "updates".

>used every windows from 95-10, except 8/8.1
>autistically against windows 8 because of missing the start button
>have old, garbage tier laptop
>lol Celeron CPU
>been switching Linux distros in and out to see what just werks
>also in school, able to download MS software for free
>dual boots 8.1 on laptop just to see what it's like
>ironically, really enjoys 8.1
Weird that this thread came up when I just installed 8.1 for the first time. I still have a weird mental block with how the GUI is set up, but it's not taking much time to get used to it. I'm surprised how smooth it runs until I switch back over to Xubuntu. I like it a lot better than 10.

>does it have the same cancer as 10?
Like 90% less
>does it come with unnecessary microsoft apps?
Yeah, but they can be removed and wont come back
>does it have the cancerous "settings", separate from control panel?
Yes but you don't have to ever use it
>does it have ads in the start menu?
no

Wrong, you should use 8 embedded industry pro
Has no useless server crap and only 3 "apps" preinstalled: camera, store and onedrive. And is otherwise identical to win8

It's hot garbage
Use 7 or 10 LTSB

Worse.
Yes, but worse.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes, on top of that, the start menu is full screen, so it's ads are full screen.
