I've had the hd598 for about 3 years. I drop them approximately 2 times a day about 3 feet (I stay on my bed and they fall over when I get up). I also sleep with them on. I've had to replace the earpads and the top headband is also falling off. The biggest thing is the wires - I've had to replace them frequently. But the headphones still work surprisingly. They're so comfortable that I can't even wear the fidelio x2 because the loosened clamp force puts too much pressure on me.

I have both too (idol trash) but HD600 seem sturdier to me. I wouldn't sleep with them, because they're also bigger. Then again, I wouldn't sleep with headphones in the first place.
HD600's definitely easier to repair if shit happens. HD598 is a pita in that regard.
However... I do treat my headphones very nice. My HD598 with 3 years of heavy use and nothing replaced do look new, besides the pads being a little more compressed above than below.
