Do you know that guy got sued for like billion dollars by some crazy guy

Frankly, dial up was a nightmare and i have no fond memories of it at all. Thank god it's mostly gone.

i was trying to make a joke user, this is a screenshot from the current site

Still using this right now.

>>call phone company and easily socal engener second phone line
>> look at buffy the vampire slayer porn
>> cyber sex with some old guy posing as a girl
>> cyber with a real girl, have a short relationship with her via phone
>> get nice tit pics
>> save them on 1.4" floppy disk

them disks are still out there, lost in the world with some nice titties on them.

god bless you my son who owns a floppy drive

I had fun as a child being one of the first netizens of the world, but I prefer the internet now.

Thanks EU

94 kid here, Windows 95 was my first OS

>can play aac and mp3
>library is fully featured
>hotkey support
>plugin support

literally no reason to change

Aw shit. mein neger

>go to AOL chatroom
>fire up my progz
>auto spam chat

Try foobar2000.

This, in the case you like a player that doesn't look like anything (i.e. complete ass) right out the box and needs extensive tinkering, tweaking and plugins for almost anything everything, but which can be made to look and feel exactly how you like.

I SO wish I had the time and energy (and/or autism levels) to bother to learn it all, but I just can't. Feels frustrating, man.

>1999
>download the demo of X-Wing Alliance
>biggest download of your life so far
>27.8MB
>takes fucking ages on a modem
>pray every minute the connection doesn't fuck up

I miss plaintext documents. Even GameFAQs doesn't use plaintext any more.

mandatory link

windows93.net/

lmao if you look at your fucking music player to do anything but organize playlists. stock foobar2000 with a particular layout plus global hotkeys is all you need.

>download Winamp
>download Sandstorm.mp3
>dii di-di-di dii diii, dii di-di-di dii di dii di dii

That's kind of the issue there. I don't really do playlists at all, I mostly play albums and use the play queue in whatever player I'm using. And a proper play queue is something that needs works to bring into Foobar.

Sure, I got the play queue figured out and mostly working, along with a Track information panel for showing data of currently playing / selected song, but turns out the queue needs some additional work in order to have it start playback on double clicking a song, and to work like the play queue does in just about every other player software out there: just play through the list and *don't* remove the songs that it has played.

Musicbee's my main player at the moment (though even that has its ass-backwards moments, like asinine non-consistent mousewheel scroll speeds and some non-configurable panels), but I haven't given up on Foobar either.

>Enqueue in Foobar2000
>Send shit to Default (or other user-specified) playlist
There, fixed your problem in 0.5 seconds

internet is shit after 1993

This isn't the internet, this is a glaring example of pointless collecting and old-hardware fetishism. If that's yours, you're stupid.

I miss the idea of a page being "done". That it would be put up and that was that. I can't say I've ever been a fan of the idea that a page or a part of a page is "always under construction."

What guy?

Jason Scott.

Surprisingly it was some AnCap fanfiction he had and not the hundreds of bomb making instructions on his site.

Attached: apple-2001.png (1024x987, 225K)

This. But I honestly wish we had the late 90s/early 2000s tier internet culture just with modern speeds and hardware. Forums, irc, ftp shares, basically before normies ruined the internet.

very much related
>pay for 50mbit
>get 25mbit at best 3mbit at worst
>constant dropouts at the tower end
>pay $69 aud a month for speeds that would have been considered slow on the 3g/cable/fiber/xdsl network 10 years ago
>barely get unlimited data, nbn are considering throttling the entire network starting with fixed wireless then everything else (satellite already fucked well beyond throttling fixing it and its already throttled)
>100mbit on mtmess basically canned, most people get up to that at best and around adsl2 speeds at worst

Attached: file.png (213x162, 30K)

It's sad how consolidated the internet is now in terms of protocols. It feels like it's all just the web, and all these other technologies are totally abandoned.

I know they are still used by a minority of people, but I miss their cultural presence.

it may belong a bit more on /retro/ than internet nostalgia, but it's good material though

Attached: oe16.jpg (623x386, 37K)

Jason Scott is the owner of textfiles I assume? Only thing in the screenshot I see.

Right? You think with easier access to making websites with cheap vpses, easy website building, free forum software etc that we'd be LESS consolidated than the past, have more options, not just (for normies, Reddit Facebook YouTube, Google, and Netflix, that's like 90% of the internet users only sites).

>wait, I said queue
>...oh
>sonuvabitch

Still, I can't help but being partial to a bit more visual UIs. Grid-based album listings are the shit. Gotta look into getting that to F2000 in the way I like it.
Also, nothing that wrong with the default color scheme, but getting something close to Musicbee's Dusk.mod.lnminente would be nice. Seems not all the UI element colors can be change in stock Foobar - there's just options for text, background, selection, and highlight.

Can you browse today's web with Windows 98? Would you need to use a light browser like Midori or Dillo?

NetSurf would probably be better since it started out designed for PCs at the level of the Acorn range.

Why free bsd tho

>"I have 10 million archived threads of Jow Forums."

/ourguy/

Thanks

>cheap vpses
free hosting literally everywhere
>easy website building
6 lines of html
>free forum software
was free back then as well bucko

I'm really worried about the way we spread data as well. It all seems so unstable. All this linking rather than spreading makes me concerned about what will happen in the future. I mean, putting a text file, pdf, or even a rtf or doc file online has a degree of self-sufficiency, while a html file is reliant on all the other html files it links to for context. That Sir Tim needed to put a fucking sticker on his PC or the web would be broken (in that anything linked to it doesn't work any more) says a lot about the flaws in a linked "hyper document."

And this is without even getting into the size of various other platforms, or formats like video.

I loved dial-up.
connect to ISP
>download subbed usenet listings
>download email
>reply to all the shit offline
>connect and upload replies

Do meaningful shit on the computer and then go out with friends.

That is something I've been thinking about for a while: how much time we have to spend on the computer doing far less.

You could do the same with BBSs as well using QWK managers.

Yeah, my friend ran a bbs on fidonet, but he quickly took it down after a local ISP opened up in the area. I remember his wall message was his email address (not uunet) and his tilde website. We all kept in touch on icq for a few years after before college came.

It's such a downgrade in user experience. The whole point of computers is to make us have to do less busywork.

terminate.com/
Funny, the terminal software I used to connect to BBS's is still alive. At least the website is.

they used to do whatever they could anything to connect you on the net.
now they don't do shit. if they do they want you to buy shit from them like you joined some 1900 dialer
they was trying to do that a long time ago though. isps where trying to sell internet by the minute. nobody would ever buy it

i found out what happened to that program and stuff, by years of internet detective snooping

Newfags will never know about these. I also remember the one time that Jow Forums discovered the number to the US government panic line (probably for spies whose cover was blown) and kept prank calling until they shut it off.

gopherpedia.com/

i found out that this article on cnn is locked into old formatting
cnn.com/US/9905/22/col.school.shooting/

it seems that cnn has certain old articles backed up in their original format, as you can see from some links working and others not.

>tfw you'll never be a kid again downloading dragon ball z amv's and playing Tibia.

Tibia's still around but it's not the same.
