Memes aside, systemd's issues are technical, not ethical like most anti-poettering fucktards want to believe. It's fully FOSS.
The reason people who don't mindlessly spout memes dislike it is that, to sum it up, it does too much, it is too complex and therefore exposes a massive attack surface (if PID 1 crashes, everything crashes. Make that process huge and you have a higher risk). There is a lot more to be said, this is just a starting point.
I can definitely see that it's convenient for some things, but in the end imho the benefits don't outweigh the risks. I myself use OpenRC on Gentoo.

can I use CDE with devuan

I tried.
grub failed to install and I'm too much of a brainlet to know how to fix it.
Tried installing grub afterwards but failed as well (install Devuan to SSD then chroot to /dev/sda via live boot failed to update and install grub).
Will try again later by installing Devuan first without a bootloader than installing any other distro to see if I can install a working bootloader that will let me boot into Devun (or can someone confirm me beforehand if this won't work?)
