I stuck a power supply and fan from my fried old desktop into a shoebox and made a cooling pad thing for my crappy old netbook. Now it idles at 45C instead of 50 . . .

I did this with a fedex box, those are a lot stronger. You can even reinforce it with supports inside.

You have no idea how monstrous those cases are. You could probably leave one to get hit by a train at 80 mph and it wouldn't even dent. The side panels alone are as thick as a small laptop. It is the most dense piece of fucking metal I have ever lifted. Pictures don't do the size of the thing justice either, it's quite a bit taller and wider than an ATX tower. I don't trust any other case to handle me sitting on it, but I'd stand on a Mac Pro without hesitating. Absolute unit of a chassis.
