hmm I had this problem before, it was easy to fix, first you gotta take apart the back cover on the Mac, unplug the battery, unplug the touchpad from the touchpad/keyboard connector
you'll then wanna short the power circuit on the main board to test fan spin, if the fan isn't spinning it means that your ram is faulty, if it is spinning it means you should install gentoo you faggot

how did you take the photo in the OP then? that's a OS related error, when there's nothing to boot mac's display a folder with a question mark, and when there's a hardware error it displays pic related.
what you're getting is a kernel panic on boot. the OS shat the bed somehow. cmd-R is not OS related, it's firmware related and will boot even without a disk installed. you can use that to run diagnostics and even reimage the computer.
i'm sorry that your friend has to deal with such a fucking computer illiterate who didn't even give a fuck enough about them to expend the effort to google his issue.

My current ones an acer too which I had to get cause urgency and it was my only option and its the best lappy ive used till date. Its a spin 5. Good screen, batts goes on forever. Friends acer sucks balls tho.
