so I'm running Void LInux with xfce de but thinking about switching to i3 ... what steps should I take to correctly install it. I'm using the default DM and I'm assuming it will pick up i3
Hudson Ward
You don't have to worry about anything breaking - AFAIK neither of them share any packages besides the usual required dependencies such as X11. Use a display manager like LightDM if you want to be able to switch between them seamlessly.

DNScrypt stopped working for me today. I know 1.x is becoming deprecated but was still using it for now. I recently had an issue where I had to install firewalld to get qemu running and this made me edit dnscrypt-proxy.toml to allow it to start on startup. Today I started my stinkpad with Arch and it wasn't working. I tried every work-around I could think of and a host of servers. Also disabled it and tried updating my system. No dice. Did all the servers just stop working cuz its old shit?

What happens when you try and play a webm with sound? For example:

>sale on xiaomi phone on chinkshit >167 euros, must select gift makes it 200. >1 month shipping >if i wanted it undervalued, risk getting fined. If not i pay another 25 euros. + 1 year warranty
Vs
> 250 euros, next day delivery, known seller in my country. Also store nearby and 2 years warranty
What would you do Jow Forums?
Easton Martinez
next day delivery from known seller, less necessary risks

Patience is a virtue you fag. Warrantys are also for fags.

I got it working. It turns out the audio had been disable through Jow Forums X somehow and now I can only control volume via Jow Forums X as well. Weird.

how do i let non-system apps on android access the sd card faster it takes fucking forever to tag my music in blackplayer preferably no root (yeah i'm a pleb, i would like to to get rid of all the bloat but apparently it requires a factory reset and i dont wanna do that)
Colton Wilson
>boot into clonezilla witha usb drive installation >plug in old drive >plug in new drive with sata to usb >clone assuming it still works well enough to do that of course

I wanna install Debian on my X220 but there is no native wifi support without installing a nonfree driver via ethernet connection after install, and I don't have a way to do this.
no because then i couldn't play my marios and castlemanias while riding my bike
Nolan Rivera
plastic doesn't conduct electricity will be fine as long as it doesn't melt wifi gives you cancer this is a good thing get a proper mp3 player the new sony walkmen are decent despite being pricey
Camden Edwards
Assuming that is the only OS on your computer and you do not have another computer to burn a non-free image onto a usb/cd.
Go to the library!
Jayden Diaz
are there emulators for mp3 players
Josiah Gray
Install it normally...? I don't get why you think you need WiFi during the installation process to have a functional working system. Just download the required driver packages from another computer onto a CD or USB stick and dpkg it offline.
Elijah Collins
also I've been having power issues and I suspect the power supply is the problem (which is why i was dusting it in the first place). if i file a support ticket or try to rma it, should i tell them about the duster stick? im worried they'll just tell me to fuck off.
Jackson Clark
Just get one bro >no cancer causing wifi >government can't track you with it >fm radio >lighter and smaller >longer battery life >can still look at porn >don't clog your phones storage

What's a good option for a sort of low-power HTPC? Something you can install GNU/Linux on that has HDMI out, one or two USB ports, and maybe bluetooth and wifi. I use an Intel NUC at my house, but I was trying to think of something cheap I could gift my parents/brother. Something that could play anime and live action tv from local files well.

Unironicly Home If you dont mind using third party tools to de botnet it is debatadly the best operating system for modern systems
Buy this. It's $5 and supported by Linux-libre. You'll have to install a modded BIOS or coreboot BEFORE you put it in, otherwise the ThinkPad whitelist will complain.
Funnily enough I did exactly this once. I managed to get it out with a paperclip iirc. Only reason I actually removed it was because of possibility to mechanically obstruct the fan. I was careful not to bridge any gaps and I think I also put some electrical tape on it inside-out to prevent conductivity and help 'grab' the tube (from the inside)
Andrew Harris
Jow Forums doesn't support webm audio codecs

Any old desktop + a cheap video card. From experience, just install Ubuntu and forgot about wireless when it comes to giving others Loonix machines, regardless of what distro you like. Throw in a cheap SSD for the boot drive. Gnome looks good on a TV even though I don't care for it typically.

I have a folder A with subfolders. One of those subfolders is supposed to be symlink created with /mklink. If i will try to copy folder A on some external device, will it copy contents of symlinked folder, too? Which flag should I use to have such behavior?
So what's the deal with grey market things like headphones from HK? Are they pretty much the same or will they shit themselves after a few months as is the chinese standard?
Justin Watson
Pros >More Program Support >More Games Avalible >Stabler >Uses less resources >Better Defult Programs >WSL >UXP Support Cons >Ugly (this also goes for vista depending on who you ask) >Bad Start Menu (can be fixed with classic shell) >Forced Updates (Vista had this aswell iirc)
An old desktop is kind of an obvious choice, but that's why I specificed low-power. I figure something new and small would be more gentle on electricity than an old desktop.
Carson Jackson
not really

What do you call it when a program tries to display text but it appears as boxes? Usually when cryptic languages are trying to be displayed.
I know it's something to do with unicode but my autism needs to know if it's like "The program doesn't have unicode" or "there's a problem with the program's unicode".
Blake Thomas
Generally it's just incorrect character encoding
Luis Baker
I just picked up a kindle g3 and I want to read mangos and other general shit, what's the best way to go about reading different formats? Also what else should I be looking to do with it?
Xavier Miller
it's usually missing fonts, like no japanese or chinese font, or no emoji font. the box with a code inside is telling you what unicode is trying to be displayed so you can look up what it is and possibly figure out what font you need
Mason Harris
Why Krita and KDEnlive are so bloated? They use like 100 dependencies like kwallet, knewstuff, knotifyconfig.
I've been out of IT a few years. Is everything still a """solution"""?
Dylan Wood
"The character encoding in my software is messed up/unsupported" or "my system is showing some unsupported unicode characters to me" are how I'd put it. These are just my colloquial versions of the point you're trying to get across though.
I managed to fix it. all i had to do was remove the psu from the computer and turn it upside down. wish i thought of this before i got myself worked up to a frenzy thinking i was gonna melt plastic in my psu
Joshua Fisher
nvm figured it out

Download and copy the iwlwifi firmware package on usb disk and install it manually from there.

Any ideas? I just want to have fun with it before throwing it into the trash, like using it as analog-digital video converter

maybe this is more a /v/ question, but is playing modern PC games possible with 1.5 - 2 mbps internet? I've been out of gaming for a few years and wanting to get back into it. But it seems likely most things require huge as fugg downloads and Steam and things. are consoles the better choice here?
Brayden Powell
I'm considering getting a new laptop but should I wait for the processors without spectre/meltdown to come out first?
Depends on what you're playing. You could download games overnight in some cases, but bigger ones would take 3 days. Consoles are kinda fucked too because most of the disc based games I buy still need 10gb day one updates, plus constant firmware updates.
To answer your question it's definitely possible because I was doing it for quite a while, and you'll probably only find it bad if you're impatient or have been ruined by higher speeds. Unless you're downloading new shit every day you probably won't find it too bad, especially if you're playing the same games quite often.
Logan Davis
It wouldn't make a difference if you moved to consoles, your internet speed is going to be the same regardless. Can you download your games at a friend's house or public wifi hotspot? Multiplayer gaming probably aren't going to give you the most pleasant experience but if you have a good GPU then there's a whole library of games you can play that are way better than anything consoles have to offer.
Don't bother, just get a laptop now if you need it otherwise you'll be waiting forever. You'll barely notice a difference in performance and hardware usage from CPU microcode patches.
Austin Mitchell
>implying consoles don't have huge downloads in 2018 you download the game ONCE ffs. or just get it on disk. latency is what matters in competitive stuff, too, not bandwidth.
Jaxon Long
Oh and if you're worried about lag and ping in online games, don't be. Actually playing online games uses fuck all and you could do it on 0.5mbps probably.
Nolan Cruz
I used to leave my PS3 disconnected from the internet and never download day one updates, will that work with PS4?
Matthew Turner
Unless you need to be gaming 24/7 which I doubt, then with a connection that slow I would just download all the updates overnight or when you aren't home.
Elijah Perry
Re-Repost: I don't know shit about CSS. How can I fix this? Code: pastebin.com/bF6xembn
I have a Samsung S3310 and a Nokia 6300 with loads of old numbers I want to save in a file, but the official sync programs suck. Ain't there a nicer way?
I'm not knowledgeable in this topic but you'll definitely get better answers if you ask in >>>/csg/ or >>>/hpg/
Camden Sullivan
you need a tv/video capturing card they aren't too expensive on ebay
Jonathan Sanchez
you'll be better off with just buying the game for PC on a disk, like you would for a console
Nathaniel Miller
Which is a better OS for gaming: Linux or Windows?
Liam Powell
uh... user... That's not even a question.
Parker Garcia
move to sim and then to a better phone/sim card reader
Jose Anderson
Is there an app which would erase all data on a phone with a PIN code ? I mean, such an app would creat another PIN code dedicaded only to this task.
Andrew Sullivan
Linux is not an OS, and the OS doesn't play as big of a part on performance as things like drivers and API optimizations. If you have to ask such a question, better stick to Winblows.
Luis Wilson
I saw a sale of an a10-9700 with a rx 460, will it crossfire? If not what’s the point of such combo.
Jose Jackson
just encrypt your phone nigga
Isaac Miller
The point is to sell stuff that you can't sell anymore, like that shitty CPU. lrn2jew and don't be a consumerist sheeple
Josiah Edwards
You guys know about any new tech come ups? I found out about bitcoin here in 2010 but didn't have any money to invest because I was 14

You’re right I guess , just looking for stuff I can spend a giftcard on before it run out.
Josiah Bailey
It'd have been besides encryption

Is it true that food cooked on a campfire will taste different depending on how the fire was started? Was out camping with my friend last week and he refused to let me start the fire with my butane lighter since he said it would ruin the taste of the food and insisted on using some flint shit to do it instead for a "more authentic flavor".
Chase Martin
your friend is retarded. Combustion is combustion and the only purpose of starting the thing is to get the fuel up to the flash point when the combustion starts. the only difference would come from the fuel used
