Office Chairs

Is this chair actually good? Do I really need to blow $500 if I don't want a messed up back? Beyond the meme, are "gaming chairs" worth it?

I like em

Buy an IKEA Markus, it's both inexpensive and comfortable

also, i'm a tall boy, is it good for people around 6'2"? lots of these chairs have some bullshit "tall" version that costs $200 extra.

>cheap
Ikea Markus
>Not cheap
Herman Miller Aeron
Steelcase leap
>Expensive
Herman Miller embody

Buy from office supplies or auctions for some savings.

can confirm

>Do I really need to blow $500 if I don't want a messed up back?
It gets you better options, but there are decent chairs for cheaper, like the Markus people already mentioned. The only complaint I have is that it could use some extra adjustment options, and the armrests are positioned way too forward, and get in the way of the desk. On every other aspect it's very capable.
>Beyond the meme, are "gaming chairs" worth it?
Think of it this way, the typical buyer/user of gaming chairs is
>Younger people that come from 10-15€ PoS chairs, so anything's an improvement
>Streamers/Youtubers that get the chair for free, but for that they have to advertise on how oh so good it is
Case in point, I had the chance to sit in my cousin's DxRacer, when I already owned the Markus, it was a load of shit. As a sidenote, he also switched to a Markus shortly after trying mine.

I hace an Aeron. I'm 6'5 tall and it is perfect for me

That's an average length at best.

You should spend money on a nice chair, but it's hard to say which one, you kind of have to try it yourself.
BUT
The most important thing is always, and will always, be variation. Even the best chair in the universe will be bad for you if you're just sitting still in it.

I have a great chair, but I noticed that I got a bit to relaxed when sitting in it. I bought ikea.com/se/sv/catalog/products/90309721/
and my back feels better, I try to sit in it a few hours a day.

Next purchase is a table that can be used standing up and sitting down.

Get yourself a nice KAB premium office chair for 1.5k. There's no reason you should pay less for your chair than your PC.

>Gaymer meme racing chair

need a chair i can sit on for hours and still be comfortable.. is there such a chair out there? i use this with no arm rests

Why pay 500 when you can get a chair for just 399?

Buy a used chair. Quality chairs last for over 10 years, so it's not a problem at all to get one a couple of years old, but you'll save a lot of money that way.

DON'T buy anything from Ikea or other cheap stores. I had a Markus chair and it was fucking awful. The seat was flat like a plank after a year and I never got proper lumbar support, leading to back pains. I suspect the only reason you hear so much about it is that Ikea is so popular and so all the people buying chairs from them are hit with choice-supportive bias and praise them online in order to convince themselves that the chair don't actually suck ass.

I sit like a POS to put it bluntly; i've always had issues with chairs not supporting my lower back as a result.

Gaming chairs are the worse chair out there (DX racer types)

Ergonomic chairs (Herman Miller types) better.. but they're only comfortable when you sit in them correctly; as soon as you start slouching they are painfully uncomfortable.

It costs a lot; but if you slouch / like to be reclined. look into
"Stressless" there is literally nothing else out there for support and comfort. No matter how you sit you're supported and comfy.

I have embody at work and a meme dx racer chair at home, and to be honest, I really don't think the embody is worth it. The racing chairs are probably the cheapest decent ones, if you're not a typical Jow Forums autist screeching because they're marketed to gamers.

I wish I was a millionaire so I could just spend 3k on a chair. That's more than my cars worth, and that has 5 comfy chairs.

>tfw got one for $110 thanks to a sale

I've had Ikea Markus but the lumbar support wasn't good for me (I'm 6'1"). Godtier for leaning back though.
Now I have Embody at home and KAB Director at work. I prefer embody as it forces you to sit in a good posture while also being comfortable. The KAB feels more like a couch but doesn't do as good job in supporting the lower back.

now if only i could fit one of those into my current budget. that chair would leave me no money for updating my audio setup or my computer.

Staples Hyken is pretty solid, it's often on sale for ~120$ usd.

If you're tall you can do the headrest mod.

I'm 6'4 I found the Markus to be the worst fucking chair. So I'd recommend against it. I think all the praise comes from manlets.

I used knoll generation and knoll life and they are great chairs. If you can get them used, otherwise it's overpriced.

Staples chairs are hot garbage, as are those racer memes.

It's ok but non-adjustable arm rests are annoying and they protude forward a bit. I just removed them after a day.

I once had the luck of finding an office chair that woulda cost 1.2k new for 10 bucks in near mint condition
it was heavenly to sit on, till it sadly broke
once i have an office job, such a chair will definitely be one of my first purchases

I fucking hate the aeron, got rid of mine 2 years ago. Got tired of that retarded plastic edge cutting off circulation of m legs.

how's the Chadwick?

go to a pick a part and get a lexus or bmw seat

mesh+headrest

got this too. god tier chair. the headrest is just about perfect for a 5'11 fellow

I've been using a topstar wellpoint for 5 years or so and it's the best chair I've ever had. I've had 18 hour days in it with no fatigue or discomfort.

>are "gaming chairs" worth it
No, those are shit.
>Do I really need to blow $500 if I don't want a messed up back?
Yes: buy a real ergonomic office chair (Herman Miller, Steelcase, Okamura, etc)

I'm 6'4" and I can tell you that every single "gaming chair" I've tried has been really uncomfortable. They all seem to be made for manlets and children. It's not that strange, children are the target audience (just like most other "gaming" branded things). Just about all "office" chairs are far more comfortable.

any specific models you recommend from Herman Miller/Steelcase/Okamura? i'll browse some classifieds to see if there are any used chairs.

ya, at 6'1" i need to do the headrest mod. otherwise it'll hit my back/shoulder.

That being said, if you don't need the head rest, you're probably better off just straight up removing it.

Personally I cannot stand mesh seats. There isn't support, you ass just falls through and your balls get pinched between your legs.

Can anyone tell me the adjustable height range of the Aeron/Aeron Size B? I can't mind any fucking information through the insufferable yuppie marketing on their website or elsewhere on the internet.
