the nicest budget smartphone out there is the nokia 3. The camera is shit but everything else is great: 2GB of RAM, IPS screen, nice build quality, etc.

I owned a shitty smartphone that came for free when I signed up with cricket for years. Used, abused, and dropped it multiple times without issue. Switched to verison and bought a $600 phone since I needed it for work, and a week later I cracked the screen by dropping it about 3 inches onto my desk.

With a custom ROM 1 GB may be sufficient. 2 GB should be the sweetspot while having the perfect amount with 3 GB.

There is no phone at that price that does what I want. I can understand not spending tons of money on a product that is Chinese crap at every price point, but I need the $100-$150 range phones. I bought pic related recently and it's just right. I can certainly say flagships are a waste. I used an iPhone recently and it was a toddler's toy. Totally crap. Work bought me a Samsung Galaxy S8. It's still got shitty software. No matter what brand, it'll always be Chinese crap.
