make sure it's enabled for both windowed and fullscreen in your control panel. Make sure the panel hz is actually at 144, they are variable and will have buttons to change it.
If you've done all this and you're still having problems you probably fucked up on something

Turn both gsync and vsync on in the nvidia control panel, but make sure vsync is turned off inside of games.

G-Sync is only supported over DisplayPort.

Is your framerate higher than 48 but lower than 144? Also some games don't work well, Source games like CS:GO shit themselves when using Xsync.

You're supposed to turn vsync on in the control panel if you have gsync unless you want your framerate to exceed 144.
Gsync turns off if you get 144 or more FPS, so if you have vsync turned on it will keep your framerate locked to your monitor's max refresh rate, but if your FPS dips below 144 it will turn off and gsync will take over again.

I've seen some input lag tests that recommend to lock framerate in games to 1 or 2 frames lower thanmax refresh rate, so g-sync is always active.

Had the same experience but with freesync.
Literally couldn't tell the difference when playing something.
Only could see a slight difference with the windmill demo.
