I dont think that much people use a Surface device to warrant a general. Other than that I love my Surface book, but I rarely use it for drawing as I prefer my desktop

Attached: Clearedup1.jpg (2115x1152, 460K)

I have an SP3. When I got it I was a bit naive, it was my first laptop purchase, and I built all my desktops myself. I thought that just buying ms hardware would give me a pleasant, bug free experience. How wrong I was.
My SP3 has always been more buggy than any other desktop I've had.
The pen constantly stops working and I have to remove and reinsert the battery.

Other than the bugs I'm happy with it. I used it to take notes for a long time before I got sick of the pen bug, very good for keeping stuff organized.

My surface book had some bugs when it was patching once I got it, but now it's flawless
Bitch why are you using my bst photo pretending it's your surface? Wtf?

As someone who still has a '07 acer as a backup stashed somewhere in the closet, this disgusts me more than Fagbooks. Literally 0 reason, considering somethings like the LG gram or XPS is just as thin but without sacrificing modularity.

Yes. But when you're considering that range you're probably also considering an ipadpro+pencil. The latter may suit your style more if you already have a desktop, or don't want to use windows. Just make sure whatever software you typically use supports your choice.

I like the design but I can't get over the fact that it's windows. That's why I bought a Mac instead.

I had a really bad experience trying to get my Surface Pro 3 display replaced after it broke. Microsoft tried to charge me more than what a used SP3 with the same specs would have cost online. It turned me off ever buying Microsoft hardware ever again.

Jow Forums is composed by at least 60% Windows users, we are just not retarded enough to shitpost about it. Linux users are a just a cancerous vocal minority.

Are fanless meme machines even capable of anything beyond browsing facebook?

I got a bug on my SP3 after having to reinstall Windows (which was my own fault, granted) where the pen doesn't work properly in Win32 programs. No pressure sensitivity at all, it's like I'm using the binary pen from Paint in every application. Works fine in UWP stuff though.

The only shit that I appreciate with the Surface products is that Apple will surely copy them, and finally "innovate" once more.

a linux users definition of choice and productivity starts and ends with customizing your desktop with autistic precision.

thats literally the only advantage in a sea of disadvantages.

I want a matebook D but with 3:2 screen, will it happen?

Because if I couldn't open it up and clean it out once in a few years, the thing would be toast. The base drive was a 320GB hdd and it had only 2gb of ram, which was plenty in 2007 but wouldn't meet Solidworks requirements today, which defeats the purpose of it being a backup PC for me. I understand that moore's law is on the decline and 16gb is plenty now, but the surfacebook will be useless in 6 years, which doesn't matter because it will die in 3.

Tbh I'm not a fan of mine
the keyboard feels like trash

You need to modify the kernal to use linux but otherwise works fine

Poorfag here. I want to buy an old Surface 3 or Pro 3 but i'm scared of it gonna shit the bed too soon and fix it is not gonna be easy. Is the quality good enough to take the risk?

linux has great driver support for the surface line :)

are you hard of hearing sweetie?

My sb2 from work. I got this piece of shit because I needed something that had a discrete GPU that didn't look fucking stupid with flashing LED gaymer lights.

For something that cost 3.5k or whatever (I didn't pay for it) the build quality and quality assurance is total ass. The first one I got had battery issues and would discharge while plugged in, so this is my second one. The fan stopped working yesterday after it made a grinding noise and I had to spray it with compressed air and slap it until it worked. If it does really break then there's no way I can fix it since it's built like a Mac. Why the fuck does anyone other than retards care about aluminum unibody design. I can't even replace the drive or the ram in this piece of shit

The tablet screen is nice but doesn't function. I've got the included pen (which takes a battery for some reason?) and it didn't work with Photoshop out of the box (I had to edit some configs in appdata to get it to work). It also doesn't work with any of my 3d modeling programs, which is what I primarily got this for, so I carry around a giant ass wacom tablet with me anyway.

Overall this thing is pretty shit, and you'd have to be a retard to pay full price for this thing. At least it looks nice.

Attached: IMG_20180621_105011929.jpg (3024x4032, 3.29M)

I meant to say the unincluded pen sold separately for a small $100 USD

Is the entry level SB2 with a dual core I5 and no dedicated graphics worth it?

More so than anything, I need something that will let me write good clear notes on powerpoint, be comfortable enough to type long papers with and have decent battery life. Besides that I just need a decently fast laptop for other work related tasks.

While I do enjoy gaming I don't see the point in spending an extra 400 dollars to be able to barely game on low settings or even more for decent graphics when I can just put that money towards a good desktop. But is there something I'm missing? Should I still spend the extra 400 for the I7 and GTX 1050 for some other reason?

Attached: 0_0_900_0_70__Features_surface_book_2_hands-on_10.jpg (900x506, 57K)

But you want bezels on a dedicated drawing tablet user, it gives your palm a place to rest which dramatically increases comfort

Gentoo has official guides for installing it on some Surface devices

Unironically looking for an alternative to the 15" surface book 2 that doesnt cost half my liver and doesnt have shitty power drain when plugged in.

Is there such an alternative 2-in-1 with a good gpu (read: 10th gen gtx or equivalent amd) or do i have to shell out $2k to M$?

Holy fuck, how are you gonna get caught larping?

Who pays you to lie on the internet to trick naive teenagers into buying a surface device under the pretence that it supports Linux?

Making a new shill thread and calling it a general doesn't make it any less obvious. Make a surface phone with actual x86 CPU and full OS or go home.

What's the point of wasting something like a surface with linux? Just get a Thinkpad.

>lie
might want to hit up that search engine instead of pretending to be retarded online

I'm a Surface Book 2 owner and former Windows Phone user. If MS makes an x86 phone I will probably buy it.

I've never noticed my 15" SB2 lose power when plugged in, but I don't do long 3D rendering and I don't play AAA games.

Yeah, that's what I've heard to from some other guy who bought the beefed up model with maximum specs.

>would discharge while plugged in
>random stuff stops working after each update
>issues with GPUs working after detaching the tablet from the body and reattaching it
etc

Overall it doesn't seem worth it to pay such an insane amount of money on something that has so many issues.

I have the SB2 with the Nvidia card but there's settings to use the integrated GPU and when you detach it you can only use integrated. There's a slight lag drawing in Photoshop using the integrated card instead of the Nvidia card. If you don't care about that, you can save the money. I spent a bunch on mine because I no longer use a desktop since I'm away from my home too much and want everything on one machine.

2-in-1 no, but there's Razer's new Blade, the 2018 model which doesn't even look gaymur anymore. They have a gunmetal grey version that is completely grey, no green ports or anything.

Everyone seems to appreciate their build quality and performance. Of course, just like every laptop with a discrete GPU in it, it tends to get hot in some parts (above the keyboard).

You would be surprised by how resource hungry facebook is

Photoshop is more resource hungry than onenote, PowerPoint or any other program I would most likely use. Do you think there would still be a lag on those programs?

Just tested Onenote, which is configured to use the integrated GPU. When you click with the mouse it creates a text area to type into, and then when you use the pen it draws things, so that's pretty good integration. Doesn't seem to lag. I don't think I use the dGPU for much of anything besides Adobe stuff and games.

If you want to save money I'd also look at those Dell laptops with no bezel (the XPS or the Inspiron), they're pretty neat and probably cheaper. They definitely have a 2-in-1 version as well.

Ok I'll look more into the dells and then try to find a store so I can test them myself. Thank you user you're a big help.

No prob. I like my SB2 but being dogmatic is silly. The Microsoft stores at your nearest mall will likely have Surfaces, Dells, and other laptops to play with.

That's 10 lashes for trying to leave the Holy Ecosystem.

>Apple will surely copy them
They have been ADAMANT and almost stubborn about not putting full touch displays on MacBooks. They have also been stubborn about not allowing cursor or window support on the iPad Pro.
What exactly leads to you believe they're going to copy anything Microsoft has done? Shit post. Reminds me of all those people who think Apple is going to copy Vivo's pop-up camera to ditch the notch.

I consider the Surface Book to be the Macbook I've wanted for a decade.

Everything Applel has ever made has been copied from Xerox/IBM/Microsoft/Braun/Sony/Samsung.

He's actually larping holy shit

Consider the iPad was inspired by the original Windows tablet concept and how they changed their mind with the Surface Pro 3/4 success and make the iPad Pro

>they added a keyboard to a tablet
totally different execution. doesn't count.

Most new mobos won't let me install w7 because of the driver and USB incompatibility.

>youtuber reviews an apple product
>surfacefags inevitably flood the comments with how much better the surface equivalent is

>youtuber reviews a surface product
>surfacefags only talk about how shitty apple's products are
why this happen?

Thanks, will check it out.

Right I've heard of this but noted that I don't do 3D rendering or play AAA games. If you want to do constant rendering for a long time or play GPU and CPU intensive games for hours on end, the SB2 (and many laptops I guess) is likely the wrong decision. Kind of a bummer, but for me the advantages outweigh that disadvantage.

I have a first gen surfacebook and they really cocked it up, everytime I so much as bump the desk and the lid moves I hear a chorus of usb disconnect/reconnect noises and windows gets all fucked thinking the led detached.

Anyone else have electrical problems like this or did I just get unlucky?

Still signing your posts and breaking global rule 13 I see. You still think your posts are so good that they need to be signed and or identified. You also break global rule 3 especially with these type of replies
>3.You will not post any of the following outside >of /b/: Trolls, flames, racism, off-topic replies, >uncalled for catchphrases, macro image >replies, indecipherable text (example: "lol u tk >him 2da bar|?"), anthropomorphic ("furry") or >grotesque ("guro") images, post number GETs >("dubs"), or loli/shota pornography.
