The absolute state of atomfags
seriously just use vi, vim, emacs, or ed. if your OS isn't niggerlicious, it will have one of these preinstalled.
But do they display emojis properly, in colors?
I use VS Code on Linux for big projects. Small programs and scripts are done in Nano. Works great.
>not using acme
4coder is pretty good too, although its proprietary.
I still think the name is a Jow Forums reference.
this, there's no reason to use anything other than vim or emacs unless you're an actual brainlet who can't figure out how to create a makefile
I think the guy is only memeing and pretending to be an atom user
Also he posts on reddit, so naturally he is a huge faggot
>Also he posts on reddit
How did you determine that?
I refuse to believe he's not baiting
Isn't the OP image text from reddit?
No, its from hacker news, the font is different :^)

I adopted it recently but lately, the more I use it the more I hate it. Shit hogs memory like nobody's business. I was working on a basic project at work
and it was using almost 800mb. Is VS Code actually good? I found visual studio to be really awful, so idk how VS Code would suit me.
VS Code is, like atom, made in Electron, which means it essentially runs an instance of the chromium browser in order to operate, as they are written in Javascript.
For editing solutions that aren't bloated nu-tech garbage, see:
fuck electron, honestly. What an atrocious idea. Is there a notepad++ plugin that'll give you the file navigator sidebar thing? That's all I really want. And a decent looking dark theme.
You won't find a better "dark theme" than a terminal, and as for file navigation, i'm sure there's some kind of vim or emacs extension for that.
also just for reference, your VS Code uses 800MB. vim for me uses about 940KB. emacs probably would use a bit more, but still not that much overall.

I have a couple hesitations with a terminal editor:
>Tabs
I use a lot of them, especially at work. My job is like 70% writing C libraries so there's a lot of switching between header and implementation, not to mention documentation, unit tests, makefiles, or a main.
>File browser sidebar thing
The projects I work on tend to have clusterfuck file structures (don't blame me, I've only been working there for a month, I'm not the one who decided how shit's laid out) and being able to traverse them graphically is very convenient.
use :tabe
What the guy below you said for tabs, and as for sidebar, like I said there's extensions that add that.

fuck Jow Forums size limits
GNU Nano doesn't have this problem.
that's cool as fuck, I might give it a shot. Thanks!
fzy is pretty neat in the terminal too

enjoy your carpal tunnel
I use vim for quick edits and projects with less than 500 LOC but for big projects, a good IDE helps.
my wife Ryuuko is so cute
If it only had a decent editor...
she's perfect
that's neat
>not exclusively using emojis to keep shitters with poorly setup dev environments from reading/editing your code.
fags who insist on using tool that can't properly handle unicode 6.0 or better and ttfs, with at least a good majority of the code points implemented, can fuck off.
yes but she's mine only
nu
using namespace ;
fuck, there's supposed to be an eggplant emoji in there
stop posting her, she is laughing at your shameful act of virginity while she waits for me in bed, idiot.
Vscode is atom optimized and with the rigth plugins integrated, idk about benchmarks, but it feels twice as fast as atom
Emojis as variables.... people don't seriously do this, do they?
It's a comfy text editor desu
yes, how did you know she likes to punch me while riding me?
:^)
people that use webapps or chromium based 'desktop apps' remind me of the story of that girl that would only eat chicken nuggets for 20 years.
get google's cock out of your mouth!
Is it possible to use emojis in a non-meme way when coding?
E.g. represent things like files, sockets, databases, exceptions, etc. using emojis.
if (config.open() == )
{
throw new File();
}
>A hackable text editor for the 21st century
What has this got to do with 21st century?
Why does it need to be hackable?
If anything we need something simpler than vim, not something even more complicated.
What text editors other than atom and sublime have a minimap feature or plugin?
Depends on the language but if you actually do it I hope you die a painful death very soon.
>hacker news isn't also full of faggots nowadays
this is painful to read
>vi, vim, emacs, or ed
exhaustive list of terrible text editors
>Nano
Homie, just quit lol
Daily reminder to not be a keybinding turbo autist and use github.com
Light Table is the only correct choice, user.
>Is it possible to use emojis in a non-meme way when coding?
No
This goes for any character not available on a US 101-key keyboard
>Tabs
Personally prefer splits to tabs.
But for jumping between definitions learn to attach ctags ans cscope to vim.
>Filetree
Check out NerdTree for a more traditional file browser. Can always use my favourite vim command :Sex
For something a bit different checkout ctrlp kien.github.io
isn't she an edgelord?
emacs has fully coloured emojis with emoji-mode
This
except nano is just a worse version of both vim and emacs
Delete this sick filth
heresy laws when
>sublime can't handle console input
Come on lads, it's a text editor. Stop trying to use it like an IDE.
>Atom
>Electron
>wtf
Your text editor is bad, and you should feel bad.
vi, vim and emacs are all literally nerd nigger shit
who in their right mind thinks using cli editors was ever a good idea, especially for plain and simple text editing
we're not living in the 1990s anymore
fuck off and let them die already, gramps
I know for a fact Emacs launches a window by default if you don't add -nw.
Small text editing is actually something CLI tools are amazing at. Nano starts up in a fraction of a second and you never have to move your hand to the mouse.
Good argument, by the way. If you think GUI > CLI you're an actual faggot.

emojis will dominate the coding world.
The biggest crime here is the absolute state of that font rendering. Why is it so blurry?
Atom is a slow and poorly made memory hog, even compared to the Electron app VS code.
user is using GNU/Linux.
Trying to use vim tabs like a normie editor's tabs will only frustrate you. Buffers are the best equivalent to tabs. Vim tabs are more like workspaces, holding windows that have buffers loaded in them.
