Switch the desktop to the "cupertino" look with the dock and menu bar, log out, then log back. Roughly half the time your panel will fail to load. In KDE I can do anything I want with the panel. Look at the Anons who add blur and make their shit look like OS X. I personally stick with the Windows taskbar look but changing the panel and some widgets shouldn't bug out when you try to switch users.

With the upcoming release of the Cinnamon 3.8 series there will be several improvements to performance. I use Manjaro with Cinnamon version 3.8.4 and it only uses up about 150 MiB or memory.

They were also hacked once and distributed an infected version of the os

Not to mention their outdated packages. I know it's an LTS release but some of their packages are just ancient. Some packages get regularly updated between each version of Mint like firefox but when they do update the packages, they don't go for the latest.

One example is that LM 19 will have GTK 3.22 while the latest version of GTK is 3.24 or 3.26 I believe.

This is why I am on Manjaro now.
