1999 - "I got me 100GB of RAM"

>1999 - "I got me 100GB of RAM"

what went wrong?

You pathetic newfags. I paid $1600 for 32GB of RAM back in the day, and was happy about it. "Great deal!" I thought.

you aren't using an AS/400

Is that you Al?

people keep buying into the faster ram meme so it getting smaller and faster but more expensive

Terry Davis had 128GB RAM at some point in the past. And he used it for a Snell's Law simulation, kek.

I paid $130 for 32 GB two years ago, and was happy about it. "Great deal!" I thought.

>1999
>100GB RAM
yeah sure why not

I actually mistyped. 32MB, not GB. The mid 90s were hell you youngsters will never know.

Not the other guy, you can get single stick 32 GB DDR 4 for

That's actually a gret deal

I don't know why people are complaining about pcs being so expensive now that the last mining boom has ended and good cpus have never been cheaper.

owo whats this

thats when the song came out dummy

Used to have a CAS of 1 now it's like 28 what went wrong?

Same senpai

not enough electron (((apps)))

>2018
>not having at least 32GB
I unironically hope anyone does this

Yeah, I know.

You might not believe it, but at one time RAM was damn near a non-depreciating asset. If you paid $800 for RAM, you could resell it for almost as much.

RAM is really cheap now. 100GB is pennies.

>100GB is pennies
where?

My personal desktop has 18 cores and 64gigs of ram so I could see this being a thing. The real question is where did you go wrong?

??

32GB of 3200 MHz CL14 ram is over $500.

I thought intel dropped support for windows 7 after 4th gen chips.

No you can use Kaby Lake with Win7
It's it the most recent generation (Coffee Lake & Ryzen) that aren't supported, at least officially

ah I see

Do any of you even know what CAS is?

If I could turn back time....

>Chrome
well there's your problem

>dem timings

kek. enjoy your circa 2002 reads.

So how exactly are you using 65 GB of ram?

I have 7000+ firefox tabs open

ram is bad for porn addicts

Are you too lazy to close them or is there a real reason why you have that many tabs open that you will never end up referencing?

>what went wrong?

Normies stopped caring about performance once they discovered Facebook.

:^)

>Firefox

Yep this site is full of brainlets

What should I use then user, I've never been overly autistic about browsers, am I supposed to be using GNU Icecat or something?.

what the fuck happened

I'd tell you but I think it'd be lost on someone with such low intelligence such as yourself

24 slots? Is that some kind of workstation with dual purley?

>what the fuck happened
"a ram factory in taiwan burned down" (TM)
"there was a flood in the vietnam"(C)

however
(((this is what really happened)))

Tabs are how normies bookmark things now

Attached: battlestation.jpg (603x324, 105K)

Bookmarks are a fucking nightmare to organize even if you're on top of tags, names, etc. Retroactively is even worse.

Pic related is my new dumping ground, export as html and hope for the best.

Can I watch animes faster with more ram?

I remembered some cyberpunk book I read. The protagonist was keeping a low profile because of a 4mb RAM module he had stolen.

I'm surprised there isn't a line about how fast he can compile the linux kernel

probably opened chrome

So fix it? I think Threadripper supports 128 now. If not; buy some server gear.

no only in 8th gen

>2018
>STILL delivering 1280x1024 17" monitors to businesses

WHO IS STILL MAKING THESE?

It's possible, just expensive. I paid $700 for 64GB in December.

I work for a fortune 200 tech company and they still deploy 19inch 1600x900 monitors new

samshit price gouging

i can attest
weekly i'll clean out my tabs (usually 100+ by then) because computer gets sluggish lol

i don't even find that shit excuseable, all these assholes knew about moore's law. it would have been easy as shit to chart ram and storage capacity vs price.

Not too much is needed for desktop use, including gaming.

For most people today 100GB of RAM is just about as useless as jpegs to Hellen Keller.

ram timing is a measure of clock cycles to perform each function, eg, CAS = Column Address Strobe

So, to run CAS on ram running at 2400mhz, using a timing of 23, it'd take about 9.5 nanoseconds.
To run CAS on ram running at 333mhz, if you set your timing to 3, it'd take about 9ns.

That's also why you can open timings up with higher clock speeds on your memory to keep it in spec, but boost the bandwidth, etc.

literally nothing wrong with that

Finally someone gets it

wow such iq much smart
