This thread is about the appreciation of watches, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine timepiece.
> Cartier crown > Panerai numerals/indices and crown guard > IWC logo > GP bridge > Rolex bezel > AP bezel/case shape > Patek dial texture > Breguet hands Anything I missed?

Oh, and I guess > Hublot screws in the case

Why would they? They're not pressed against the plastic anywhere.
James Cox

Those arent? Well good, because the original ones and most of the well made reproductions in the last years all presser against the plastic and warped the shit out of the face protection. Which isnt expensive to replace anyways, but still

If you purchase from 'Jay and Kays' realize they have an autistic level of detail regarding their customer service and products.
Oliver Lopez
nah, take them off cuz they look stupid
Lucas Robinson
That doesn't look so complicated.

You can calculate your fuel consumption with it. Could be useful if you're in an ultra light aircraft or your 1992 Ford Taurus has a broken gas meter.

How does one check out watches without being a sperg, I checked out a local jeweller and I could feel the reluctance of the salesman to actually show me stuff, because I mentioned that I was looking at something inexpensive.

Can anyone tell me the difference between SARB SARX and SARY? Movements, finishing, quality?
Anthony Davis
Nevermind, got the gist SARY - 4XXX movement SARB - 6r15 SARX - 6r15 + diamond coating, nicer bracelet, etc.
Wouldn’t you prefer to own just one very nice watch instead of this pile of shitters?
Logan Parker
I'm proud of you
Joshua Peterson
Great eye user, well done

does anyone remember what the chinese traditional time watch from some microbrand company being posted here was called? I think it sold on a site called goodstuff, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

Customer had the battery changed at some charlatan, who tore the gasket, pinched it and just generally placed it in wrong. This is four days after it was taken into salt water.
I swear these people are just deciding one day that from now on they're watchmakers too, not just cobblers, plumbers, cashiers whatever. The asshole literally left the torn in half gasket as it was.
For this one time it's not the customers fault though. It was the retard "watchmaker" hack who fucked it up. I mean you're supposed to swim with a 100m Seiko.
Customer said he went in the sea and that was it. Like I said this is what only four days of saltwater does. Also Hungary is landlocked so he was abroad, it's unreasonable to expect he could have brought it in sooner.
Movement swap, no big deal. But the dial and hands will never be the same.
in terms of quality how much different is this from a 30$ casio? They sure do look cool though. very retrowave aesthetic
Ian Long
>in terms of quality how much different is this from a 30$ casio
That Speedmaster is accurate to +/-5 seconds per month. The Casio is accurate to +/-15 seconds per month.
The quality of the steel and finishing of the Speedmaster is also miles above the Casio construction.
The Casio will obviously have a greater number of functions.
Dylan Rivera
>Casio >+/- 15s/mo Was their old shit that bad? I haven't touched the time on any g-shock in the last 3 years and they are within 2 seconds of the world clock.
Most G-Shocks are rated to be 15+/- per month. Obviously the actual accuracy is way better, my gw-m5610 even without synchronization for weeks is always spot on

That SNK80x 5 series is such a good value workhorse watch. Looks good on that leather too.
Haven't enjoyed a quake since the original with quakeworld and the original team fortress/Mega TF. Quake III was alright but Unreal Tournament smoked it.
word of warning to anyone in the east coast to avoid having work done on your watches at "little treasury jewelers" in maryland.
went to pick up an OEM rubber strap i had ordered from Seiko so i figured i would bring in my GS to get the steel bracelet fitted as i had never tried it on the watch.
the dude behind the counter who tried to do it:
>thought my watch was fake because he thought it was an SBGX259G and the fonts looked different. >i had to explain to him that it was a different model and why it looks different than other modern grand seikos >couldn't align the bracelet with the lugs and was convinced the bracelet did not belong with my watch >accidentally made the spring bar fly off across the store when he was trying to put the bracelet on >left some scratches on the underside of the lugs
would have charged me a shitload of money to fit the bracelet too when i can have it done for free at my local jeweler.
I laughed at you yesterday and you didn't get the message?
Obviously it's a fake you fucking retard.

/wt/, I require the aid of all the combined autism in the thread. I have a Grand Seiko dealer 2 hours away from me. I’ve been looking at the SBGX line of quartz watches but am having a hard time deciding between the old dial with “SEIKO” stamped below 12 o’clock, or the new dial that only says Grand Seiko on it. I think the newer dials look cleaner, but also imbalanced and top heavy since there’s absolutely nothing on the bottom half of the watch. Can anyone weigh in on the design they like more?
