Whats you guys opinion about a refurbished Lenovo Think Pad E550? Should I get it? I don't really have much demands other than using as a shitposting machine, running linux, maybe playing old games, watching stuff and doing programming jobs for work.

How the fuck do I open a 9 cell battery? Do I just pull like a brute?

>Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T, X, and W/P Series if you want the Real Business Experience™

TN panel on my x230 is pretty shite lads

The IPS panels on AliExpress. Are they good? Are the colours good?

Guys I'm scared I'm gonna break the bezel

Should I take my T420 to a professional?

Attached: IMG_20180623_153255_6.jpg (4208x3120, 3.29M)

when i use windows 10 my x230 randomly freezes but when i'm on kubuntu it works flawlessly. i could use kubuntu but i need windows for work

Might be memory, I've noticed that Linux crashes less frequently than Windows when running faulty memory.

you need to warm it in the microwave first

What are the odds Lenovo will stop being retarded and let me configure a T480 with an MX150 without getting a vPro CPU?

if im understanding correctly, vPro is useless for me as a home user

it's a fucking T420, stop being a pussy and just learn.

Why is having vpro such a big deal, if you're not going to use it anyway ? If you wear tinfoil hats you're better off getting some librebooted thinkpad not the brand new thing.

>Why is paying $150 such a big deal, if you're not going to use it anyway ?
exactly

Whats wrong with the Thinkpad 25?

My only issues with it so far has been the slightly old graphics card, and the dual core U class processor rather than quad.

It's too expensive for what it is.

It was outdated and overpriced on arrival, also a big fuck you from lenovo because they didn't deliver what we wanted at all.

Dude, don't. People on the Web are increasingly stupid, you're going to hurt a clueless man with your evil posts.

Just going to repost this from last thread.

What did we want in the T25?

the only thing it has over a T480 is the keyboard, which is like a $50 difference. Everything else is shittier *and* more expensive.

i would be hesitant to pick it up even at 50% off, especially when the T-series just had a 35% off sale

Maybe let's start with that we didn't want a T25, we wanted old best features in all current thinkpads, such as 16:10 displays, old keyboards instead of the chiclet shit, customizability etc. Instead we got a limited edition T470 with old keyboard that nobody wants.

Solder in nitrocaster's FHD mod. It is an amazing upgrade. forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=122640

I can't tell if this is ironic or genuine.

>150 USD to upgrade a screen of 10 year old laptop
ABSOLUTE state of thinklets

these are teh same plebs who talk shit about matebooks and xps's but they do stupid shit like this.... top kek

kys thinkshit

This laptop is around 6 years old. It is the model before they switched to low voltage CPUs, so it is faster than a lot of the thinkpads that came after it. This one has a 3rd gen i7.

This is also the last model that you can install a good keyboard in. The layout on newer thinkpad keyboards is much worse. I use the page back and forward buttons a lot in emacs, and the nav cluster is nicer. The newer models also have chiclet keys, which are better than the keyboards on most other laptops, but not as good as the old keyboards.

I like thinkpads as much as the other guy but I agree with this, the fhd mod is stupid and expensive.

Which has better performance between i5 t430 and t440p?

You only say that because you haven't tried it. A higher resolution screen makes this a completely different laptop. I use it a lot more now that it has a good screen.

It's also possible to install a 13.3" 1440p screen, but I think that would be overkill.

Based. Did the same with my T400.

Shut up posh cunts, nice digits btw, witnessed.

I own a thinkpad with 1440p 14 inch screen and the density is too high to be used without scaling, I do appreciate high res, but in my case I would have to pay more for the mod than I paid for entire laptop so it seems pretty pointless, it's no longer about value at that point.

FHD at 12.5" is the perfect resolution to use without scaling. The 768p screen was barely usable for me, it seemed alright at the time, but I couldn't go back now.

And I didn't really get this computer for the value, I got it to get the best laptop I could get with the classic keyboard. I got my x230 with an i7 for ~$140, nitrocaster's mod for $60, and the screen for $90.

aaagh why is it so hard to find a 4:3 T61/p that isn't horribly expensive

Attached: 2018-06-11-14h32m29s329.png (1492x1080, 903K)

So I have a t60 and I want to upgrade to a better thinkpad.
I'm thinking of getting a t420 or a t430 and in just going to spend a bit of money on it. I was thinking of getting a t430 and replacing the keyboard with the t420, the screen with the FHD ips converter, replacing the cpu with a quad core i7 from the 530, and adding an SSD of course. But from. What I'm seeing all of this seems possible with the t420 so should I just get that?

>all of this seems possible with the t420 so should I just get that?
Yes, changing the keyboard of the T430 is a shore, see this:
>medium.com/@n4ru/the-definitive-t430-modding-guide-3dff3f6a8e2e
It's less troublesome to go straight for the T420, it's cheaper and you will upgrade it with the same parts (I don't know for the screen tho").

Nonetheless fuck off, I'm trying to buy a T420 too but I can't find a good deal, me first okay.

Where's my Korean princess?

Completely took apart my x200s for a good clean. Should I dump some more sexy pics?

Attached: IMG_20180623_120202.jpg (4000x2992, 3.96M)

Man. it just went down another 50 leaf dollars. That's the equivalent of USD$150, with a 1 year refurbisher warranty.

Honestly I was about to dump a over a grand on a T480/T480s instead, but I am not impressed by the throttling. I'm starting to wonder if I should just pick this up and wait for a T490 with thermals actually designed for a quad core.

I love my thinkpad and all but how do you disable caps on these fuckers?
Just got a thinkpad X1 carbon from work, am running ubuntu. Device is great but can't seem to set capslock to escape in the normal way (editing dconf).

Most if not all tools that disable or change the caps key also use the same method, I have no idea whats going on or how this doesn't work, does anyone have a solution?

I should add, its from 2016 and is Japanese so has a Japanese keyboard.

Already there are problem-free fullhd-mods for T430?

Look into Xmodmap

might be doing something wrong but is set to Escape there too:
```
shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lock Escape (0x42)
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x69)
mod1 Alt_L (0x40), Alt_R (0x6c), Meta_L (0xcd)
mod2 Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4 Super_L (0x85), Super_R (0x86), Super_L (0xce), Hyper_L (0xcf)
mod5 ISO_Level3_Shift (0x5c), Mode_switch (0xcb)
```

I own x240 / x220 and I am happy with the bright ips screen however the 14' t series I've been working on are unbearably dim. Which t unit has a good bright ips display?

Attached: 1529074973590.jpg (647x1149, 269K)

Which should I choose?
Refurbished X220 - £130
Used X220 - £130
Both are in "very good condition"

Refurbished and used both usually mean pretty much the same thing on eBay, so whichever.

output only lists modifiers, running:
`xmodmap -e "remove lock = Caps_Lock"` fixed it.

>nesting tmux

local > server

i've nested tmux thrice when using a server to connect to another server

the X240 is great for coding on the go, fingerprint reader, sim card slot, sd card slot, dual-batteries, got it for 400 euros second hand and rocks Kubuntu like a mofo

tried using another phone, gotta make a tripod or something

Attached: 20180623_135151.jpg (4160x3120, 3.18M)

how do i manually install thinkpad_acpi, apprently ubuntu 18.04 doesnt come with it and my Fn key dont work

someone help a brainlet

>running tmux and X locally.
>not realizing that tmux is redundant when you have a full window manager and terminal emulator which offers features such as tabbing
>not realizing that you're running a Terminal MUlTiplexer inside of a terminal emulator which already is a terminal multiplexor only requires one less session and can provide much more advanced features.

$150 for the FHD mod is a lot better than $60 for the IPS screen that is the same resolution.

tmux is my favorite tiling window manager

>running tmux and X locally
I don't get why people do this, do they think it makes them look like some kind of hackerman?

maybe i like having multiple terminals occupy the same space/process

tmux into cmus, nice background mediaplayer

Anyone bought one of these batteries?
Are they shit?

ebay.co.uk/itm/332063977474

>non-genuine batteries
Just no, that's one of the few things you do not want to save your money on.

Nothing wrong with decently priced chink batteries, that's not one of them though.

T430 users, can you give me a quick rundown on your experience with that machine?

Fuck I love my x200s so much guys.

I was using it a few years ago. I can't recall a screen for example ( I wan't very picky back then ). What I do remember thou is:
-it's heavy
-it's indestructible

Have one as well, dont rly love it that much. Why do you love yours?

sup /tpg/
Started to notice this white smirk on my t440s 1080p tn panel (got a tn one instead of an ips one and couldn't return it) whenever there was something white.
Do you guys perhaps know a way to get rid of it, or am I going to be stuck with it?

Attached: DSC_0754.jpg (1136x2096, 588K)

When I worked for lenovo support this would be considered a "sunspot" so basically someone pressed lcd but not hard enough to break it and they would consider it mechanical damage. Don't think there's much you can do here.

The X230 was £80 on ebay with 1x4GB of ram.
Paid £50 for 2x8GB RAM from CeX. I got lucky on the SSD - paid £50 for a 256GB drive (ebay), and they sent me a 512GB one by mistake!

That is actually not a completely terrible price. But you can certainly get it cheaper than that if you look around a bit.

really tempted but also scared of buying an X230, never had a screen that small before, can you live with that as a daily driver? I mainly do webdev stuff and shitpost, need to survive with it for 3+ months, the alternative is a T430 but the non IPS screen is a huge deal for me

Anyone have experience with P-series? I want a good gaming and entertainment computer but I dont want to build a PC yet. Also are Lenovo desktops any good?

Attached: 1527452182124.jpg (418x405, 23K)

Upgrade the T430 to the ips screen. If you're too poor to do that, you don't deserve an ips display in the first place.

>that feel when no mint condition librebootet x200

>can you live with that as a daily driver?
Personally? No
>the alternative is a T430 but the non IPS screen
t440p and screenswap a 1080p IPS panel in? Simple two minute job.

Any of you fags still fucked over by libinput post-1.8?

Is the the X1 Carbon a good laptop for general (normie) purposes? I'd get the i5-8250U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD model for $1367.

Attached: aHR0cDovL2Nkbi5sYXB0b3BtYWcuY29tL2ltYWdlcy91cGxvYWRzL3BwcmVzcy80NTU3OS9sZW5vdm8tdGhpbmtwYWQteDEtY2Fy (775x500, 263K)

I've checked newegg and even staples, it's so rare to find one with a 1600x900 screen. All I'm concerned about it what condition it is actually in (especially the keyboard) because it's as is and canada computers won't do refunds for that shit. I'm really tempted to do it just so it's a beater laptop i can leave in my school's locker.

other option is to go for a refurbished T430 instead since at least the keyboard will be easy to clean.

is it worth it to upgrade my wwan card on my t430 if i'm having no real issues with the current one i have now?

Currently have the intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000

keyboards are stupid easy to replace on thinkpads. the screen you can probably do yourself but you may as well get some beat to shit one on ebay and rebuild it yourself.

No, if all you're doing is normie shit, get an x220/x230 and put an SSD in it.

I upgraded mine to a nice wireless AC card once I got rid of the whitelist with coreboot. It's great. I got one that supports bluetooth 4.0, so I can use my wireless trackball.

Not really if you don't need it, but you have to put. Coreboot on to remove the white list, but if you do it put the good keyboard in from the t420 while you're at it.

yeah that's a good point. I might as well do that if replacing the screen is even a consideration for me.

spending a grand on a new T480 is also tempting because I'm financially retarded.
