now that 3.5mm plug is finally dying, when is this massive piece of shit finally gonna die? I can't even count the number of times I cut myself on this shit because they're impossible to unplug.
it seems that SATA power connectors are taking over... GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE!
What the fuck even is that? I've never seen it outside Jow Forums
Brayden White
it's an ancient connector that power supply merchants still force us to use. it's a massive piece of shit.
Brayden Perez
Never happened to me a single time. Also OP is underage. Those plugs are a sacred computing tradition. Countless generations of disk drives have been powered by them, so please show respect where it's due.
Blake Nguyen
Molex 4 pin. It's not necessary to use and you aren't forced to use it.
It can be used with adapters for 6 or 8 pin, fans (if your mobo fan header broke or you ran out of them)
We will likely never stop seeing this. Even my evga 750w came detachable molex.
If you all hate this so much then disconnect them from your modular power supply. You do have a modular psu... right?
Cooper King
works fine cheap easy to work with if you're not a retard
this is what peak power supplying looks like
Joshua Hall
It's not THAT hard to take out, you were probably being lazy and not moving things around to get better leverage on it. Also, go work out manlet.
Joseph White
There are just so many useful periphials that can be connected to molex with the right adapter. I cannot COUNT the number of times i've had one or two sata connectors on a PSU go bad, or just ran out of them and had my ass saved by molex to sata. Cannot count how many builds i've had where the mobo was some weird shit and the fan header was way too far away to plug the exhaust fan in so I just used molex instead.
Used molex to power 1070s, 1050s, all sorts of weird shit.
OP is an angry underaged manlet with a woman's grip.
Christian Martinez
do you also cut yourself when you're opening a bottle of so ylent?
Charles Jackson
>now that 3.5mm plug is finally dying no it isn't > I can't even count the number of times I cut myself on this shit because they're impossible to unplug. Know why I know Söylent takes up most of your "diet"?
Bentley Green
Who do you think is wrong with this connector? I never had any problems with it at all.
A SATA power connector broke once for me when I plugged it into a hard drive, but that's about it.
>It's not THAT hard to take out It isn't that it is hard to unplug, it's that it is impossible to unplug without feeling like you are going to break either the cable or the device. They feel very flimsy and the individual wires wiggle around too much for me to be comfortable working with them, it always feels like it is one second away from breaking.
Caleb Jackson
>Buying shitty PSUs with no easy push to release plugs.
^This. Think about the countless millions of PCs powered with them. Think all the porn downloaded, all the games of Quake, all the company payrolls done on machines powered off M4 plugs.
Hardware and OSes may change with the times. We may go from EGA to VGA to SVGA to nVidia 3D cards, we may go from ESDI to IDE to SATA hard disks, we may go from 720k floppies to 4G USB sticks, we may see companies rise and fall, we may go from DOS 3.x to Windows 10, from 40MB to 10TB hard disks, but no matter the year or the seasons, the humble M4 is always there to provide your hard disk with power. :^)
Kevin Gutierrez
>works fine others work better >cheap everyone would be willing to pay 1/2 a cent to get a better connector. SATA power connectors are already as cheap. >easy to work with if you're not a retard bullshit. they're hard to connect and impossible to disconnect.
Nicholas Evans
git gud
Evan Brown
>MUH TRADITION go to bed gramps and take that ovaltine as you listen to some easy listening music on your shortwave radio.
Evan Morales
>cheap
They come with most any PSU it's hardly an option.
Sebastian Perez
They have a solution for your problem it's called cable mod cables, they can be custom tailored to have only the connectors you want, in the custom length you want, with the colors you want.
Just because you don't like molex doesn't me the other dude with his RGB strips, D5 pump and fan controllers don't want his molex.
Jace Perez
If we had to listen to this retard, we'd still have 386 PCs with bleeper sound and shit CRTs.
Colton Nelson
Oy vey! Goyim, M4 is antisemite! You better stop using it and start buying them $15 adapters asap!*
*Only 80+ nickel edition and certified by logitech, nvidia and intel, of course!
Isaiah Martinez
Not him but I have plenty of strength, the fear with molex is that if I use too much of it I will smash my hand into the other - razor sharp - size of the PC case and splash blood all over my precious electronics.
I've done that a few times in my life, I used to work in server rooms.
Matthew Parker
Quality cases have rounded edges so you don't get cut by random shit.
Anthony Campbell
Sure, but me employers back in the day would not buy "quality cases" for their servers, they would buy the cheapest shit available to spend more on the electronic parts.
I swear to god, several times I found myself filing down edges on servers just to avoid being cut one more time.
Asher Williams
>I can't even count the number of times I cut myself on this shit that's possible?
molex has to go though, the cheap pin always fall out, sort of like how your spaghetti falls out of your fanny pack all the time
Isaiah Butler
i have this thing using it with connector to power up my sata dvd drive it just werks
Josiah Butler
Just wear gloves, that's what I do. It also beats having to keep washing my hands as they get caked with dust.
Yeah, I should have come up with that 8 years ago when I still worked in server rooms. Nowadays I have a cushy remote job as a devops making almost 6 figures working form home while taking 30min Dark Souls & Beer breaks every hour.
Brody Morales
>3.5mm dying underage opinion
Sebastian Martinez
You sound like generic applel user.
Blake Stewart
these literally are more impossible
Logan Morgan
let me guess You're one of those retards that tugs on the wires to disconnect them rather than the connector itself
Because thats certainly what it sounds like
Jeremiah Rivera
How fat are you now? JK im jelly if true.
Brody Howard
What pleb tier shit do you use? At worst some case fans many use them but only lower quality brands use them. Everything in my system is either powered by SATA connectors or mobo fan headers.
Landon Jones
I never had a problem connecting or disconnecting them. You must have weak fingers. Also SATA connectors break way more often in my experience, on the drive side, which is a bitch to fix.
Nathan Bennett
I would be if I didn't go running every other day. I usually run 6 km, sometimes if the weather is not too hot I do 12 km. If I didn't do this I'd probably be a landwhale, but I'm in pretty good shape. I also go wall climbing with friends sometimes.
Isaiah Murphy
>push clip >it breaks >push clip on other side >it gets stuck in the slot harder now wew
Caleb Anderson
>I can't even count the number of times I cut myself on this shit because they're impossible to unplug. hahahah S O Y B O Y
Michael Rodriguez
>when is this massive piece of shit finally gonna die? That's still alive?
Liam Jenkins
SATA is even a thing today?
Gavin Hill
Yeah they're pretty awful, especially if you get some cheaply made ones like I have in my case. I had to shove the pins in one at a time because they fell out of the back of the connector
Lincoln Harris
I've made this so many years ago got Jow Forums.
I call this piece: "Ata Origami And Molex Ikebana".
Impossible too unplug without wrecking your shit. The point is you have to be very moderate in your power output, otherwise you just smash your hand into the other side of the case or some electronics.
Alexander Johnson
I agree with your statement, but satania is a dumb slut.
David Parker
just wiggle it around while tryiing to unplug it instead of pulling on it like a retard
Thomas Peterson
>cable pull! case smash! are you autistic? might explain your difficulties in regulating your strength
>do you know that fucking connector that's been working for 6 gorillion years without breaking and does the job at the minimum cost? >Let's change that because I got bored of it.
Evan Kelly
I agree with OP. They're awful
Ian White
say what you will, but i've seen way less broken molex connectors/plugs than sata ones the only thing i've had is pushing out the pins, which you just be pushed back in
Charles Green
I haven't had to deal with these connectors for years. Buy a modular power supply and high quality components and you won't have anything that uses it
Hudson Reyes
Chad molex VS virgin pcie
Adam Nguyen
>Let's change that because I am a bitchy faggot. fixed
Wyatt Stewart
What I don't get is why the sata power connector has more connections than the data one... wtf?
David Young
3.5mm aren't dying bro. It will continue to endure in the audiophile/professional audio market.
4-Pin molex isn't going away either due to some peripherals needing 5V. These days, it is mainly low-RPM fans and fan controllers.
Logan Bailey
Never had a problem with them. You are just extremely clumsy and weak if you have issues with them.
For wiring tidying, nlyon ties are your friend.
Ethan Myers
>tfw you only use laptops and haven't seen one of those plugs in well over a decade
Blake Mitchell
>4-Pin molex isn't going away either due to some peripherals needing 5V Pretty sure SATA power connectors also provide 5V. They even have pins for 3.3V, but I think those aren't always used since drives don't seem to need it.
Next for sure are CDs-DVDs >inb4 they are already dying Indeed you're right but laptop's manufacturers still put a cd-dvd rw on them. Just the expensive one doesn't have it. Also most car stereo have it even nowadays
Kevin Gomez
See the last connector in this pic ? It's the same as the one the guy in the video says is OK.
your ancestors killed animals with tools they made from things around them, and you can't unplug a connector specifically designed to be unplugged
Jack Sanchez
molex, hello young newfag.
>OP and anyone complaining here has never had issues with the early sata plugs >just dropping out of their connectors.
Isaac Brooks
>I can't even count the number of times I cut myself on this shit because they're impossible to unplug. How do you cut yourself on a molex connector? I honestly can't imagine how. What sharp edge is there that you might cut yourself on?
Adrian Anderson
I think he's talking about the flanged rim. Honestly if OP's putting that much effort into pulling them apart then he probably doesn't deserve this. Acquired from muh engineer grandad >when pulling apart sleeve assemblies ALWAYS "pull" on the internal part not the outer or external part.
Seems like a design flaw that the Makers of Molex put the flange on the external fitting...
Gabriel Brown
SATA is great for almost every application, but only supplies a fraction of the amperage of a molex connection, you underage retard.
Tyler Turner
A lot of the really lowest budget chinky ones are just awful plastic. The leads are loose in the connector and sometimes they just aren't aligned well enough to plug in and shit. Theyre really not meant for casual disconnection though. Even the cheap shits stay connected forever. Sata connectors are brittle as shit, even the connecting surfaces. Way too much leverage on that shit, too.
Andrew Allen
mine still do that lol. i only have 1 hard drive and its still fucky lol
Lucas Sanders
this, shit's too thin and weak for the kind of wire it's expected to be used with
Hunter Walker
There's absolutely nothing inside of my PC that uses the Molex connector. NOTHING. It's fucking useless.
Christopher Torres
3.5mm isnt being removed from motherboards or cases soon you fucking autist
Daniel Harris
As someone who still uses an IDE HDD and not enough fan connectors on my motherboard, its useful to me.
>As someone who still uses an IDE HDD >93GB disk LOL'd. Why the fuck do you still use a 10+ year old HDD???? It probably has tons of bitrot already. You should have moved to something new like 6 years ago.
>How do people cut themselves on these? very sharp edges. horrible tolerances on pins and receptacles so everything has to be pushed really hard to make a contact... which means when you want to disconnect it, it's next to impossible since the connectors themselves tend to pull out with the plug.
it's a shitshow all around.
Lincoln Davis
see hope your house is insured.
Christopher Perry
I'm legit impressed that guy's HDD isn't dead. Good show. I've thrown all my old disks into enclosures and I think all the IDE ones are rip'd.
Jonathan Ortiz
his computer is even older. I wonder from what 3rd world shithole he's from...
Samuel Jackson
>I'm legit impressed that guy's HDD isn't dead It actually dies sometimes (no damage to data as far as I'm aware), strangely enough I just have to reconnect the molex and it works again.
I'm just waiting until this thing kicks the bucket before I upgrade but it has a serious will to live.
