For normies they can actually replace laptops.

cheap low-res tablets are child entertainment machines for long car rides/restaurants for ages 3-10

The other type of higher end tablet is somewhat useful for people during business-class train or plane travel (read: noncramped situations) as an alternative to reading a book or newspaper, but e-ink screens are better for this purpose.

They are marketed to the ultra-young or the old.

Conclusion: not really.

I guess one thing I could do with it is if you somehow equip all your lights and home music system with ways to connect wirelessly, you can then have a layout of your rooms displayed on a tablet hung on the wall and control everything from there.

But it seems like an expensive, dumb plan because using a lightswitch in the room is far superior.

I want a cheap 10" inch one for reading comics. Don't care about network capabilities. SD card essential. Preferably no camera. Purely a comic book reader. Any ideas for what to get?

I use an iPad Pro for work since it has a longer battery life and I just use it to terminal/remote into everything.
Otherwise it's great for porn.

As a guy who travels frequently it's a plus for the tablet cause normally flights expect you to pack your laptop away on flights until they're coasting.

Tablets don't count so you can carry on for pretty much the whole flight.

Get one of those Nook things from Barnes and noble. Like $30 bucks

I keep one at work, all it does is play youtube videos

Where is my A4 sized, colour e-ink display that weighs < 150g

Attached: serveimage.jpg (634x410, 15K)

I'm thinking about getting one for my bed since the fan and the wieght of my laptop annoys the shit out of me when used anywhere but on my desk
Android Tablets are dead, so is an iPad the only option?

The iDOLM@STER.

That's an e-ink reader, don't suggest that for comics.
Find a used ipad. Kindle/Nook can do pdfs but not cbr files, and pdf is a pain too. Tablets are better for books with loads of pictures/PDF files/Manga and e-ink readers are best for text heavy stuff/.mobi/.epub files.

Pick up a cheap 60$ Kindle, hook up the play store and Google services. Install the app 'Perfect Viewer'. It'll open up whatever format you need.

I've got a chink tablet for reading. Better than e-ink since the screen is more highres and I can also watch some cartons on it.
Another plus thing is that I can download a bunch of textbooks and just take it to the uni and study without packing too much stuff.

Unironically, it replaced my laptop since I can just install teamviewer and check my desktop for shit that I need with a bluetooth keyboard+mouse.
It's not like I will do any work outside of my place, so it's just for some special occasions.

porn, hentai, manga, anime, and VN's
why would you need them to do anything else?

I use a Nook HD 10".
Strictly for reading comics from an SD card it's pretty great, the screen is bright and the colors are pretty ok. Not sure how large an SD card it supports though.

64GB enough for an ipad pro if I only plan on using it for practicing kanji and drawing? I might put some music on it but that's about it

If you think of them like handheld monitors, they can be handy. Reading stuff, displaying statistics. They pretty much just suck for the actual input part, because... touchscreens are awful. I'd like to see more tablets running a full and proper GNU/Linux, and with a good port selection for plugging in a real keyboard. I could see using a tablet as a main machine if you kept a docking station at home and work with peripherals attached, and then it was elevated off the desk a bit, so when you docked it, it'd also act as the primary monitor.

They're decent craptop replacements. For the price of an iPad good luck getting a laptop that isn't utter garbage.

$100 will get you a thinkpad that could do anything youd ever need

It will be great for sketching, but for applying finishing touches you will need a PC, as the iPad apps are a bit limited.
I can't imagine you would fill those 64 GBs with your sketches, so you're fine.
You can also use them as a ghetto secondary monitor, if that sounds interesting.

I have a good PC and a laptop but I just wanted something that had a nice screen and that I could draw on digitally. I got it as a gift from pops who is loaded but the only other option besides 64gb was 256gb for another $130~. I just didn't want Apple to have anymore money than they had to.

I have an iPad Pro 10.5" and use it almost exclusively for web browsing and pdf reading.

reading mango, I guess

It's perfect for holding pics and watching videos, I find my cell phone to be a better reading device though since I like to read lying down and tablets are hard to hold over head.

Taxi drivers.

I have one and I've mostly been using it almost the same way most people use their smartphones. Browsing, reading and playing games. First two benefit greatly from a big screen. I don't do phone stuff, though. Traditional calls and texts are relegated to a dumb phone that accompanies my tablet.

iPad minis are great for reading, just buy a used 2013 model for cheap. It's not like it needs to do any significant computing.

True have shitty tablet, now rarely use my laptop...even cheap tablet is not garbage at all.

Really nice for web browsing in bed or whatever, besides that no real use.

Getting the 2018 ipad,is 264 ppi good for reading pdfs?already have a kindle paper-white which is useless for pdf reading.

This.

This. At least half the people at my office don't actually own a computer at home anymore; "because I can do everything on my iPad!" which I don't get. I have an iPhone, it's very good at being a secondary communication device, but being that restricted all the time would make me feel like I'm in a prison. It's almost like these people don't actually do anything with their computers, they just spend their weekends browsing Yelp and Youtube.

Most people have an aversion to buying used computers. Which is somewhat understandable, because for every 4 good Thinkpads, there's one cum-encrusted poo in the loo special. Are you going to take a 20% chance that the unremarkable office computer you buy arrives like that?

Just got a Samsung Galaxy Tab A. Why would you buy a fruity toddler toy?

They're very useful to read technical books

>casual web browsing
>consuming a single site through an app
>watching streaming/downloaded video (they get awesome battery life due to hardware H.264 decoding support) on your bed/on the couch/while traveling
>monitor for piloting drones
>reading periodicals like magazines that are not a good fit for ereaders

Because they're like 2-3 years old already

>It's almost like these people don't actually do anything with their computers, they just spend their weekends browsing Yelp and Youtube.
This probably covers 95% of people.

They are good for drawing and doujins, that's about it

t. Ipad Pro owner

I put slimOS on my fire 8 and use it as an entertainment tablet

I don't even like apple but holy hell android tablets suck ass compared to ipads

Anyone know a good Android tablet with a good front facing camera.
I only want the tablet for skype and reading comics.
I'd go for an ipad, but you can't turn on auto- start skype calls on ios for some reason, so it needs to be android.

Any suggestions?

You will have to go high end like the Tab S3 since no manufacturer bothers with cameras on tablets

Ok, thanks. I've come across the Huawei MediaPad M3, which seems it might fit what I'm after, is it just pure trash?

Just get an Samsung Galaxy Tab A. You can pick them up for under $200, has a decent build quality, and it'll do pretty much anything you want it to do outside playing Fortnite on it.

I use mine to take notes in class, as an ultra portable computer when I don't wanna lug my laptop, as a portable game emulator, and a portable media machine.

Pretty cool. Mine only cost me $150 too. It's God tier when traveling. I can pretty much do 80% of the shit I need to do on a computer without the bulk.

Being the comfiest of casual computing experiences since 2010

-Shitposted from My iPad

Is it good for reading books and pdfs?

Of course that’s what they’re made for form factor wise. They don’t choke the donkey on shitty and large as fuck PDF scans like crappy ereaders do. They’re perfect for manga and Netflix

I used to have android tablets, they had sub-par specs, not very good resolution, big bulky bezels and not very useful other than basic shit.

Replaced my android tablets with a Windows 10 2 in 1 with wacom support and got a 6.44" phone which does things much better than the android tablets have ever done for me.

It's fine. I usually carry a kindle with me, but if I'm without it I just read ebooks on my phone.

Is the battery good?
Need video calls to last about 8 hours. Currently have an old ipad and it can do so, but it's just getting slow.

Auto answer in iOS is available as an OS level accessibility feature.

idownloadblog.com/2017/06/23/how-to-iphone-auto-answer-calls/

Third party messenger and voip apps can take advantage of it if it uses CallKit features and allows iOS Contact list integration

Reading manga and research papers. Don't get an iPad Mini or similar if you want to read A4 PDFs, though.

Thanks mate.I have a paper-white,not ideal for reading PDFs.

Can that be used with skype at all?

Don’t use Skype shit but if what’s app and Facebook messenger added the CallKit shit it’s a safe bet MS did as well. And you had better believe MS would jump at the chance to steal your iPhone contacts list so there’s no ways the Skype app doesn’t have iOS contact list integration

Thanks will look into it.

The only good tablets are ones that dual-boot Windows 8 and Android

But their specs are so outdated at this point

I'll take the shitty specs over the shitty OS you get with a Win10 tablet any day

Win10 is a steaming pile of shit and an even more broken locked down steaming pile of lol no-apps shit on RT devices. You would have to be fucking brain damaged to consider Win10 as a worthwhile tablet environment.

Which is exactly why I said it wasn't a worthwhile tablet environment.

Reminder to report and sage.

ew porn watcher. no joke, I look down on people who looks at porn. I interviewed people and I know they watch porn frequently, instant reject and make sure other company know. Not even a bait. I genuinely hate porn watchers. It ruins lives.

Considering that my phone is older than dirt, I tend to use my Kindle Fire with Play Store installed more than it whenever I can't be on my extra thicc workstation laptop

ditto on paperwhite pdf compat
that said, can't you just convert pdf to epub or mobi? Pretty sure I did that, it's been a while since I synced my kindle

Reading, not ironically, of course
I have a nice big ~ Samsung Tab E 9.6 and it's the best device I've come across, have and used because of its display and size and handles pdf a whole lot better faster and smoother on literally any reading app and fbreader

what if your best hire watched porn in secret; literally perfect otherwise, just watches porn in some closet and you happened to catch him once

If they have a pressure stylus, drawing. I just use a repairable Surface clone in lieu of a 12" laptop. Finger touch always disabled.

Is there any decent Linux tablets on the market?
>inb4 buy a Bay Trail tablet and hack it

adding a caveat to the drawing bit, don't get a tablet for the express purpose of drawing (obviously not talking about usb drawing tablets), accuracy and feedback will always be lacking and putting your palm on the screen? yeah there're gloves for that but c'mon dawg
drawfagging it up in conjunction with other computational tasks though, go for it.

lurking this

reading, videos, entertaining small children
otherwise not much

2018 iPad with apple pencil is actually a very good and relatively low cost solution in this space. Lots of full featured sketching and image editing apps on iOS now too.

oh shi really, no wonder there was a chick actually using one to take notes with in my calc class.
well credit where it's due, if there were to be any impeccable, high quality drawing applications for tablet it would only happen on an ipad.

>It's almost like these people don't actually do anything with their computers

you mean stuff like downloading porn and cracked software? fuck off nerd

multitasking on an iPad is a shitton better than on an iPhone. especially after iOS 11. you can pretty much have 5 concurrent things on screen at once. you're not gonna run a fucking seedbox off your ipad (lol why would you want to) but it's got 90-95% of your most frequent computer use cases handled

youtube.com/watch?v=JsAh2EjyIVo

watching porn while taking a shit.

it wouldn't happen. Porn makes you retarded

does anbody here use an ipad mini with the music apps available on ios? im interested in one for recording drum machines/synths and jamming/performing live. the size and price of the mini appeal to me, i dont mind the size of the standard ipad but the pro is too much for me definitely. im asking cause i know the ipad mini hasn't been updated in a few years and wonder how it performs in 2018.

but what if it was just a one porn. Just ONE porn?

i use it for flying.

are you some sort of fundamentalist Christian?
god isnt real btw its all made up

>PC for heavy workloads
>Laptops for productivity away from home
>Tablet for reading news, forums, and books, also watching streams and videos
>Smartphone for communication

i have an ipad pro 10.5" with the logitech keyboard, but you do need to pay for some apps like a mosh client and workflow and a good ad blocker. but i'm not poor so it's fine.

It's like a big phone, some have pressure/stylus so you can draw on them, Some old ones have an IR blaster, so you can use them for robotics or a simple TV control. Obviosly, better multitask than a phone, bigger screen works better for media consumption, reading shit and lasty for flights since you don't have to stop using them
I'm the user that made a custom ROM for a Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, so i'm a bit biased.

They are pretty good for traveling and using them in cramped situations and also very good to read newspapers on them. (for books just use an e-book reader)

>but i'm not poor so it's fine.
>t. 40K a year who buys fapple products on payments and HAS to boast about his alleged wealth

IPad pro serves as a high resolution second screen using duet when I'm mobile. Also has some decent games and makes carrying my textbooks easy. I used it as a full laptop replacement for a semester but found it lacking.

They're only useful in niche situations, as sofa browsers and bedtime time wasters.

I watch weeb shows on my Fire tablet.

Forgot how useful they are to browse the web while taking a shit.

That's pretty much it.

This basically. They're godly for rhythm mobage.

My friend Ryan uses it for porn, but personally I use two lubey hands, so it's GearVR for me.
