I've used a membrane keyboard for years, specifically the Logitech K120, and have been looking at various mech keyboards as part of upgrading my setup. One of them I was looking at is on sale but it only has Brown switches. As someone who's never owned a mechanical keyboard are those switches a bad choice?

should I get the royal clear or the royal true? I’ve never tried hakos but I’d probably prefer whichever is heavier between the two

also where the fuck do i cop topre keycaps? i can't find any anywhere

HOLY FUCK BOYS! WHAT A FUCKING GREAT START TO A THREAD!

Ebay or mechmarket. You can always find an hhkb for cheap on mechmarket.

Looking for a full size touchpad keyboard (has numpad + fn keys) that would be, preferably wireless available in multiple colours.

Doesn't have to be mechanical

Browns are terrible. Especially Cherry. If you are looking for tactile switches go for mx clears at least.

Well they're Cherry MX Brown, should've specified. I was mostly looking at them since I do typing as well as gaming on my PC. It's a "gaming keyboard" so they only switches it supports are MX Blue, Red and Brown.

mx blues are the only ones somewhat acceptable... and I am being incredibly generous. follow the format and ask for a keyboard then you will get proper answers.

BKE domes are pretty good.

Just ordered a tada68, should I get an aluminum case or some keycaps?

Why not wait a bit and see if which you would rather upgrade

Those look like they'd be difficult to use on a regular basis

why are all of you so keen on using small manlet keyboards?

Attached: IMG_20180317_duckduckshine5-kingston-hyperx.jpg (2817x3747, 3.71M)

it's a fact that the smaller your keyboard is, the better you are at programming

Attached: Geo-HHKB.png (783x365, 654K)

I went with the true myself, that's the heavier of the bunch. Now I can pretty much have Novelias without having to wait for them

an adult who's sitting next to a water heater in his mom's basement is probably not good at programming. don't think manlet or full-sized keyboard would make much of a difference in that guys case

This.
I use a 60% Yoda 2 and I'm amazing at programming.
I'm programming with the best of them.
I could hack even through 6 proxies. I'm not joking.

I bet you think vaccines cause autism.
The science has shown that smaller keyboards help make you a better programmer

Why do I rarely see artisans on /mkg/?

Because artisans are hideous overpriced meme keys

How do you think artisan keys could improve?

Attached: gray and black.jpg (2400x1600, 1.36M)

most artisans are 15-20 bucks tho

Shit pic, but got this thing up and running now. Still getting used to how little the fingers have to move to go between rows.

Attached: IMG_20180626_185300.jpg (3188x1738, 1.31M)

I don't think they can

Only artisan cap I would get is a robot head from Nier Automata.

I think the only one I would get is that forbidden realms cap from Jelly keys. That thing is genuinely pretty

The best part is if you look at the filenames there's more than one person posting this shit

I'm pretty new to mechanical keyboards and got a ducky shine 6 a couple months ago. Anyone know if there is a way to turn on the LED zone presets without having the software up in the background? Once I close the software it reverts to the last preset setting I left it on.

Could I get some intel on chink shit mechanical keyboards beyond what's already on wiki? I'm thinking about buying some full sized one or something
smoler and an additional numpad, I really like my numpad, but I'm kinda worried about quality and whatnot and would appreciate it if someone actually owning such a device would speak his mind on the matter.

Attached: 1518260444893.jpg (640x480, 65K)

I wouldn't bother. You'll lose typing efficiency for a meme.

royal hako yes or no?

Go for it m8.

Based

I bought some. If you have some extra money go for it.

Halo switches are on massdrop right now, you could make royal halos if you had the patience.

Is the hyperx any good?

Long story short, I'm not getting laid off! Help me celebrate by choosing a new keeb.

It's been a while since I've been on /mkg/. What's new?

kailh is the top dog of meme switches now

One of my keys is dying :(

Attached: wait.jpg (3166x2372, 1.34M)

that's what happens with membrane boards, they're not made to last

unusual. I had my model m as my main programming board for 6 yrs. Got it freshman yr of college and kept it through my first job.
...model m's from the 1980s are still being sold today. wtf are u talking about, they are built like tanks

Is there any difference between the clear or the true in this case or is it just the stem color?

guy's i'm joking the board is fine. I just put a yellowed key on there.

Attached: 1527717084145.jpg (518x710, 87K)

Oh shit we have other /asp/ies here?

wtf is the difference?
It seems like they just added different weighted springs and are selling it for more. Is there something special about the hako housing?

They have different springs.

The clears are way more aesthetically opinion IMO.

.... different springs... that is it? and they are selling it for 50 cents more?

aesthetically pleasing*

It's the Hako stems, springs, and top housing with a royal bottom.

I was saying that the trues and clears just have different spring in them.

how many of you are waiting on one of these?

Attached: model f-77.jpg (3466x1520, 222K)

I am. He is pretty much done now apparently. All that is left is assembly. A bunch of people went to the nyc meetup and everyone is saying positive stuff about it.

Attached: DONES.png (695x286, 26K)

gun needs more accessories
also, a bigger clip

I've never owned a mechanical keyboard before (tried a romer g one though) but you guys have already made me sick of Cherry switches. Should I just get a topre keyboard and call it a day, or build a kbd75 with kailh box switches? Which of the tactile kailhs would you recommend?

What kind of switches should I get if I just want to post pictures on r/MechanicalKeyboards for upvotes

Zealios, frankenswitches, rare Alps, capacitive buckling springs

Preorder the pink novelias m8. Be sure to put them in a pink anodized aluminum case with miami caps too.

Aluminum seems pretty pedestrian. Do you think I could make a case out of bismuth?

Go full IBM and cast it out of zinc then my dude.

Sounds good. What about keycaps? I'm thinking glass or some sort of crystal so I can see my awesome switches at all time

Attached: hqdefault.jpg (480x360, 10K)

don't want to be gay or anything, but that model f user is my hero. He ran one of the smoothest Groupbuys ever.

Literally updates every month with very useful and interesting information and doesn't let companies push him around and compromise his autism. Made all the samples and made sure that they were all 1-1. Goes to meetups to just see feedback and see if people like it. Goddamn man.

Full board of resin artisans like this m8.

Attached: 359ebad3-cff2-47e6-af06-02aead5a4932.jpg (700x431, 39K)

Yeah I want the clears too since I don't like the color for the trues. Is it the one with the heavier spring?

Trues have the heavier spring.

Those look really good with backlighting too, probably the only artisan I'd even consider getting

Hello. I only know very little about mechanical keyboards, but I was on Massdrop and saw some "Switches" that had a really pretty sandy color. But, it seems, to use these, you'd either have to buy a specific keyboard that lets you swap out these switches, or make your own. How would I go about doing that? I read that it requires soldering? Is that something I can learn to do without injuring myself?

I also saw these really pretty "keycaps," I think they're called. What kind of keyboard "frame" would look good with these?

Attached: keyboard.jpg (2000x1284, 70K)

the only way to injure yourself while soldering is by touching the hot tip of the iron

if you're capable of operating a stovetop without burning yourself, you can solder
