Intel doesn't want you buying it because it's cheap.
The reality is, for most games, you won't see an inch of framerate improvement from a pentium G up through an i7. You'll be gpu limited if anything.
the 8350k is basically a 7700k but faster. So, feel bad for all the retards who spent 400 on a 7700k last year when you can just buy a 8350k now.
Still, 4c/4t is not very future proof, so you should really go for a 6 core at the minimum. i still think the 2600x is the best buy, followed by the i5-8400, but you do you, man.
if you do nothing but play games, the i3 is fine.
but if you wanna keep your board for a few years, why buy a dead socket? so that's why i went 2600x. and again, unless you have a 1080ti and you're playing in 1080p/144hz, you will be bottlenecked by your gpu anyway.
It's more than fine, it beats everything except for the 8700/7700k when it's overclocked in everything except for games optimized for threads.
8350k is not even close to 7700k. 4c/4t 4.8ghz vs 4c/8t 5ghz.
8350k overclocks on average to 4.6-4.8ghz which is comparable to good 6600k or average 7600k chip.
I remember 6600k being 240$ at launch date 2015 so it's only come down 100$ in almost 3 years. Sounds pretty terrible to me desu.
I have one paired with a 980ti thats water cooled
5.0ghz baby all games on max
Nexusman says it himself, 8400 is a way better choice. Plus to oc the 8350k you need a z370 board.
no game uses more than 2core and the ones that do are programmed badly and can be fixed in a patch.
pubg for instance lags in opening menu on 2core while menu runs fine on 4core but both 2core and 4core perform the same.
only reason I got a i5 7600k is because noobs in Warcraft recommended it because wow uses 2cores and 4threads. even thou its second core is only for the sound engine and doesn't effect performance.
would have got a i3 k series if done again and I might get one to delid and overclock when I get around to doing that.
people who use i7 and up and show task manager to prove game uses 8+ cores don't realize that task manager literally lies to you and even if it shows cores doing 30% load in reality that's less than 1% of main core load and if it was all on 1core it could actually be performing better.
ive seen arguments that while lots of cores and 2/4 core perform the same that many cores make frame rate more consistant but that's just based on how the benchmarking software works its actually performing the same. jay two cents did a video on this trying to justify multi core to himself but he didn't research how the fraps software worked and how it reported framerates faster (so it looked more consistant) on highcore cpus.
all games use 1core any that performs worse with 1core can be fixed with some edits.

Sorry, but the "dual core is enough for games" meme is finally dying now that D3D12/Vulkan allow parallel draw calls. Games still need to maintain D3D11 renderers so we aren't seeing them take full advantage just yet. Do keep in mind that the PS4 has 8 slow cores instead of a couple fast ones.
It's a moot point because the new i3s have 4 real cores anyway. In a couple years, games are going to stop running nicely on dual cores.
The 8400 sucks because it's locked. I know it might be a better value per dollar once you factor in the Z370 board and cooler for the 8350K, but I refuse to be cuck CPUs that you can't modify clocks or voltage. Got a Ryzen 5 instead because I needed mug cores, but if I was going Intel 8400 wouldn't even be an option. At least I would save up and get the 8600K.
Look at the ipc and boost clock you retard.
Not to sound out of touch but I don't really understand the point of budget chips. Sorry for the britbong prices. The i3-8350k is £155. The i7-8700k is exactly twice that, £310. Let's say you use it for 5 years and decide to throw it in the trash afterwards instead of reselling it for some reason.
Over those 5 years, you are paying an extra £2.60 a month for the i7. That is a completely trivial amount of money- and if it isn't, you aren't in a position where you should be assembling gaming PCs anyway.
Sure, you can add the cost of the Z370 board, a nice cooler, blahblahblah. Unless you're one of those people who upgrades to a new Titan every year, PC gaming is still a very very cheap hobby in the scheme of things. You would probably save more money by switching to a slightly cheaper brand of various household items than you would by buying a low end CPU.
Let's say you go for a somewhat overkill £1500 gaming rig; that's going to cost less over 5 years than a satellite TV subscription, and those are still extremely popular for some godforsaken reason.
Almost anyone looking to buy a "budget gaming PC" would be better off buying a small cheap notebook+a used PS4.
Because 4c/4t are a stutterfest and 6c/6t will be a stutterfest within a few years if not today.
Power consumption on OC intel CPUs is retarded, too. 2 core 7350k overclocked uses half as much power as 4GHz on 32 cores of the 2990x. 4 core 8350k overclocked uses as much as the 32 cores at 4ghz.
>The reality is, for most games, you won't see an inch of framerate improvement from a pentium G up through an i7.
Only if we are talking about pre 2015 games, anything barely modern will stutter like like crazy and will have shit framerates on a dual core.
t. G4560 owner that upgraded to a i5 8400
You are retarded. Stop spreading bullshit and go back to /v/
even 4c isn't enough for games unless it has HT/SMT. They're fucking stutterfests even in games that are a few years old now, let alone actual new and future ones.
Task manager doesn't show shit. Only framegraphs do. And only framegraphs when you actually have shit running in the background that a typical gamer would run, not using a PC as a glorified console.
what a big load of bullshit. kys
Are you the same fucking retard that tried to say that an LCD gives off the same amount of light as an eink screen the other day? These two ideas are comparably fucking retarded so...
On behalf of Intel® Corporation, a ten dollar starbucks gift card has been deposited in your loo
He's not even a shill, just a dumb /v/tard
What? Kaby and Coffee have the same IPC.
