The Linux userbase is mostly incompetent with the software they use because no one configures and compiles their own kernel and instead use the all-purpose kernels distributed with their distributions.
They're familiar with the userland tools but not the kernel itself. You will not find help for using the kernel itself on most of the forums dedicated to it.
