>This isn't a review of the STAX L-300's, (even though it's flaired as one, I apologize for that) I do not have the technical know how for that sort of thing, this is just the experience I have had with them, as a relatively new audiophile. There's a TL;DR at the bottom if you're busy.
>So, our story starts by going back a little over two years. At the time, I had a strong desire to acquire a solid pair of headphones as I had begun to enjoy more diverse forms of music quite a bit, but all the headphones I used sounded veiled and nothing was really clear, they were cheap and horrible. I looked around for a lower priced but still solid pair of headphones, and I found, after a lot of searching, the Philips SHP-9500S, they were just in my budget, a hair over $150, and they had excellent reviews. When I first got them I was enthralled by them, nothing I had listened too sounded so clear, I could hear everything, I was absolutely enamored, and had been since then.

>Around the same time I got the SHP-9500S I was delving deeper into the world of audio, in my quest to have the clearest audio, I came upon electrostatic headphones, and heard they were clearer and just all around better than...well...anything else.
>I also saw they were roughly eight times the price of my beloved Philips, which swayed me away from them, originally. I continued to enjoy my Philips, and our bond grew closer, every day when I came home from work mentally drained I would put them on and lose myself in music for a little while, recharge my batteries. But, those electrostatics niggled at the back of my mind, could they really be better? Shouldn't I be satisfied with my Philips?
>Two years of pondering, of doubting, and I moved up in life, I received a higher paying job, and life was going well, I decided to make the leap, and, as a birthday present to myself, ordered a SRS-3100 set, including the STAX L-300 and the amp, it cost me just over $1000. I questioned my sanity after the purchase, and so did my family and friends when I told them, and no matter what I said, or how I tried to explain it, they dismissed me it as lunacy.
>After waiting over a month, today they arrived on my doorstep.
>With trepidation I opened them and saw them in person for the first time, oddly ugly and beautiful at once.
>I set them up and gave them time to charge, then queued up my favourite song and sat down in my comfy chair and put them on and pressed play.

>Jesus Christ, they are amazing. Everything is so much clearer and more present, everything sounds better, closer, I could feel every note and word. They transported me into a world of crystal clear sounds and it is beautiful. I felt strong emotions listening to a song I had heard hundreds, perhaps thousands of times before and yet it felt like I was hearing it for the first time. I felt as if I was being pulled into the headphones, like they were pulling me to a different dimension, and I was soaring far far away from my chair, my home, and the entire world, everything disappeared from around me and I was left alone, just me and the music, and I was right there, feeling everything. I became one with the music and the music one with me and the song ended, the world fell silent and I was ripped at light speed back into my chair and the world reappeared and I just said fuck aloud.
>I am completely blown away, I never expected such a chasm like difference between my faithful Philips and my new STAX, I'm still sitting in awe just looking at them sitting on my desk. Such ugly things deliver such beauty.
>The only issue with them is I cannot go back to my Philips, I tried after my short session and what sounded absolutely beautiful mere hours ago sounded harsh and tinny to my reborn ears and I'm torn, on one hand I wish I could go back, on the other I never want to.
>TL;DR Do not buy STAX, they're just too good (IMO).
>Now I'm left wondering if there's something even better out there that will mess up my enjoyment again, and do I want to keep pushing, or stop myself here, and be content with what I have?

not portable

I wish to be the little girl

Pity they didn't have this hype in 2010.

I was thinking of buying noise cancelling headphones.
QuietComfort 35 II for 360€
or
Sony WH-1000XM2 for 330€?
I'm using OnePlus One, which I'll probably upgrade soon, and commute to work by bus and metro.Any opinions on either of those two?

Bought a pair of new Master & Dynamic MH40S2 for $200. I can finally set fire to my old-ass M50's. Did I do good?

not sure the hd58x are worth it.
they look more bassy and bloated than the 6xx which is shitty.
they should've kept the old freq response, with the leaner bass and better treble.
cheap hd660s >>>>> cheap hd650

serious question, how much are stax in japan locally?
also anyone seriously gamed in stax? can you wear them for 10h? do they image in games well?
there is a lot of headphones that image music well, but very small number that does games well

>Gaming in stax
Heh.

What's your setup like?
... user?

What are those?

Stop

What does bass and treble extension mean?

Attached: 1499217584339.png (1161x957, 672K)

It's a meme people use to try and convince you to get something other than hd600.

Volume at 18 Hz and KHz.

I've repeatedly told you that screwed up treble monitors are better because they pick up artifacts and let you cheat.

Is SDR mod alone fine for the HD800 or is the foam/carpet liner and other mods a necessity?

>better because they pick up artifacts and let you cheat.
you clearly do not play actual games.

look on rakuten if you want to see local prices, or what do you want the price of I'll let you know

but for example the 3100 combo is $590 usd new

Attached: 397A3A62-BEAD-44AD-A834-E309ED7AB136.jpg (3012x3651, 2.05M)

I'm also unfamiliar with the brand, but apparently these things have won an award from PC Magazine? Besides their heftier weight they're alright. Good transparent sound. 400 clams regular.

Attached: peadhone.jpg (1466x1500, 300K)

Such chroma. Them tubes.

>is $590 usd new
fuck, I wish it wasn't twice that importing or buying here

hd600 has fine treble extension tho.
sub bass is another story tho

Why did you go with those vs something more known? You could have gotten K7XX or Hd6XX for that price. But if you are happy, then that's good.

subbass extends down to 2Hz. Just not super loud. It won't drill your skull and cause distortion all over either.

Attached: 1525876711969.png (1722x1107, 229K)

it can reproduce it quite well on it's own in fq swipe, it gets slightly swallowed in music

edifier wants to make it cheaper for international buyers, a few years from now it shouldnt be anywhere near as expensive

stax.co.jp/2018/06/26/nr_srm_d50/

I can't believe how good my K702 sounds with Little Dot Mk3 and Voskhod 6zh1p-EV. tubes.

I got them 50% off from a lady that claims they didn't work plugged in. I figured she just had the mute button on the right cup pressed, which ended up being true...but she didn't seem too attached to them anyway...

They do look lovely with the lights out

not good enough for japan, only good enough for the rest of the world :(

>電源電圧:AC100-240V 50Hz/60Hz
This means that I won't have to deal with any kind of transformers.

damn ur right, looks like maybe you can just plug in any power cable to the back thing, that's actually so helpful

Yeah as in 100 to 240v for each market with the windings clipped

Yup, and just $1000 for the priveledge. So cheap!

7s confirm me wanna buy

This means that Edifier is actually serious about their global expansion. Does this mean that the EU customs will no longer rape me if I get into STAX?

that amp/dac is still overpriced 600%.

>tfw stax might not be hipster gear anymore
will /hpg/ stay in love?

ac100-240v
wide range power supply
that's good thing

No, I shilled it with the intention of displacing most dynamic phones.

35w power draw is pretty huge though
why their starter energizer only 10w?

>Pick up artifacts
So if I use STAX they'll collect shit for me in STALKER?

its a starter energizer..............

user, you should buy stax

Attached: 67086115_p0.jpg (2500x1562, 324K)

I agree, but it's still cheaper than the 353 after taxes.

Stax are mostly flat response. A treble cannon closed monitor will pick up low level artifacts from such as distant vehicle audio WAY earlier than Stax.

I'm the original 307anon shill.

buy stax

Oh sick the autistic kvetching concern troll is here. Why don't you bitch about how HD600s probably cost around fifteen bucks to produce you dishonest faggot

carry on soldier

I'm 19
And I just discovered that I've lost all my hearing above 15.5khz

are you one of those brainlets who was always blasting music on headphones

You're the autist that literally claimed he's "fighting a war" aren't you?

you know, when I see cars standing in traffic with music in full blast, it makes me happy.

>tfw i was 14 and blasting shitty cringe rock music
i was so fucking stupid.
