Comcast upload is dicks

Attached: 2018-06-26 22_07_03.png (351x200, 15K)

It makes me so mad to see these amazing upload speeds the rest of the world gets, but here in America I'm stuck at 40mbps even when paying for gigabit download speed.

Attached: a.jpg (880x660, 137K)

then what about
?

From what I've seen, Verizon is one of the only ISP's in the US that allows higher upload. Problem is, I've seen numerous verizon customers who have that speed but it slowly goes down if they try to stream.

only issue is with youtube peering, and if you have a VPN its not an issue.

I personally keep an SSH tunnel open to a VPS in new york and tunnel my Google Chrome Canary (dev build) through there. So when watching youtube in normal chrome it goes through my normal routing, if i notice it starts to have buffering issues I just copy and paste the address into canary and it's no longer an issue since it gets routed to a VPS in NYC where peering isn't an issue.

>pay for 1000 mbits
>get 40 mbits
kek is this even legal?

Technically I think I'm paying for gigabit download, the upload isn't guaranteed

How much you getting in download? Personally only care about upload speed because of muh sekkrit club trackers otherwise it doesn't really matter

Well skipping my router I get 950mbps down, but when I'm connected to the router I only get about 500mbps down. Even though my router advertises gigabit networking it doesn't seem like it can handle that.

everyone only cares about download speed until they suddenly have to upload something big, then they hate their shitty upload speed and want to murder their ISP.

Jesus, at least the Verizon router can do full 945/945mbps

Even somewhat decent routers can do 700mbps WAN/LAN.

To only hit 500, that's not good....

Honestly it's really frustrating because there was no indication in the amazon reviews or anywhere that the router wouldn't be able to handle the advertised speed of a gigabit. I've got a gigabit switch coming in tomorrow so maybe I can bypass the router through the switch or something. Worst case I have to get a new router.

would require a managed switch.

Unmanaged switch can't do it.

Well fuck, at least now I know.

The servers in Norway can't handle high download speeds.

Attached: unknown[1].png (735x256, 49K)

As am American, should I move to Norway? I've heard good things in the past.

>currently 0.0012 mph

>changing the result ID
well, we'll be sure to believe you this time

>Gigabit bredbånd fra kr. 2.490,- /mnd
>Etablering fra kr. 5.990,-

That aint exactly cheap, so what are they charging you for 10gbps?

Viva España, compañero.
>3ms
I hate living here, I hope I can move on next year and that the area I will be staying in Barcelona has that sweet 1gbps speeds.

Attached: file.png (350x200, 15K)

You will rarely notice a difference between 600mbps and 1gbps.

Most servers can't provide more than 300-500mbps.

Unless you're downloading a LOT on torrents or something, it generally wont make a difference in your daily interneting.

>Unless you're downloading a LOT on torrents or something, it generally wont make a difference in your daily interneting.
Well, I seed, that's mostly all. I haven't almost noticed a difference from 300 to 600 unless I'm downloading from a really good seeded torrent or mega/google servers and such.
Anyway, I want to live next to a Cex too, these fuckers have a lot of cool shit. God, I love consumerism.

Yeah about the only things that regularly get more than 400mbps for me are Steam, Microsoft, or private tracker torrents.

Would this switch work for what I want to do? I've been on with tplink customer support for over an hour now changing router settings to figure out why i'm not getting the speed I should.
amazon.com/NETGEAR-Gigabit-Lifetime-Protection-GS105Ev2/dp/B00HGLVZLY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1530135571&sr=8-3&keywords=managed gigabit switch

No, you'd be spending $200+ most likely for something that can manage 1gbps WAN/LAN throughput.

Best method is to get a standalone modem, and a standalone router.

Then you can use whatever router you want and make sure it can do 1gbps, this will still cost ~$150+ though.

Routers capable of gigabit speeds simply aren't cheap.

That type of managed switch is for QOS and VLAN routing.

The type of managed switch that could do actual 1gbps ROUTING and DHCP would cost you a lot more.

I've got a standalone modem and router. Arris sb8200 docsis 3.1 modem and tp link ac1200 router. The router advertises gigabit lan ports, so I'm trying to figure out why it's not giving the speed it says it can do.

It CAN do gigabit LAN

You're not doing gigabit LAN, you're doing gigabit WAN.

Netgear Nighthawk X6S

That is a router that advertises Gigabit WAN.

Fuck, I didn't even think about WAN vs LAN.

Alright new plan, how can I build my own router and then use my old router as a wireless ap?

Here is the cheapest option
amazon.com/dp/B01MSUMVUB

So use that router basically as a managed switch, then connect my wireless router to it as a wireless ap?

kr 3600,- per month, but you need to live in one of the few neighborhoods they offer the speed.

No, you'll be using it as a router.

A high end managed switch CAN do routing. Whereas this is a router, meant for routing.

And yes, you'll just plug in your other router into a LAN port on the router and then tell it act as an access point.

>kr 3600,- per month
Jesus, almost $450 USD a month.

I can get gigabit for $70/month.

When I first got NBN, has been a bit slower since. About 90/30. Still happy with it, especially for FTTN

Attached: 6387094855.png (350x200, 21K)

Bayonette only charges around $60-65 a month for gigabit, they don't really try getting people to pay for 10Gbps, but they offer it for the few who wants it.

It's because you're paying for asymmetrical transfer speeds. That's how they're offered to most consumers. I'm not sure if you can buy it symmetrically, but I know enterprises can. I worked somewhere that was 260 mbps up and down, but I rarely see consumers with it (but it's not unheard of). Keep looking, chap.

Lightning speed...

$80/month

Apparently if I want non satellite run out here I'd have to pay $50,000 estimated

On 2G..? Kek

DSL. Pay for 3 Megabit. $50 a month.

Are there any Aussies with a better speed than this?

Another question, I've been in tp link support for a few hours now and they've tried everything. At this point they're asking me if I'd like to RMA the router. Thoughts on whether that's a good idea? I feel like it won't actually fix the issue. The tech did explicitly state the router is capable of gigabit speed for LAN and WAN, not just LAN.

You can, it's up to you.

Bruh what the fuck

The chad supernet
Vs.
The virgin interlet

I know. I am ashamed that this is the best I can get unless I can shell out $50,000 to run a line out.

where in asia are you?

Brainlet here,
Why do we measure down/up speed in Mbps instead of MB/s, wouldn't that be much more representative of the actual speed?
I understand that the numbers are much higher, thus more impressive, but isn't it misleading?

Attached: d27.png (645x729, 75K)

Lower value gives better accuracy

100Mbps sounds better than 12.5MB/s.

Marketing. Some people don't know the difference between bits and bytes. They believe that bigger number = faster.

This is a shitty explanation. By this logic, files should be measured in bits too.

>tfw I can only live stream at 2000 Kbps
>tfw my only other option is (((5 Mbps))) that will give me 3 Kbps
>tfw fiber is only available in few neighborhoods throughout the entire country
I blame Bibi for this shit

Attached: Screenshot_20180628-040119.jpg (768x420, 34K)

Man I am stuck on this comcast business plan and its really swanky, but I should probably just switch over to consumer tier and get the gigabit shit... Can you bring your own docsis 3.1 modem for that or do they force you to use their gateway? I can manage my cable modems (I have a backup cable modem, you should too, peasant) through their interface and shit right now. I dont want to lose that because provisioning modems through some asshole in customer service takes forever over the phone.

NET has shit tier upload speeds unfortunately
I wish I had Live TIM where I live

Meant 3 Mbps

My internet speed is 1/5 of what it should be today, and my connection has been lagging constantly for a week. I hate having to call my ISP. Why can't things just work? Why can't they see my connection is shit and fix it without me calling?

$71.1 dollaridoos 1000GB p/m
Fucking FTTN...
At least it doesn't drop out.

Attached: Screenshot_20180628-114243.png (2048x505, 162K)

I'd give anything for that, literally 6x my current speed.

940mbps down
42mbps up thanks to comcast's infinite wisdom to limit pirating by killing upload speed

Be glad they even provide you with gig download. Ungrateful cunt.

>NET has shit tier upload speeds unfortunately
This is the DOCSIS fault.

Fortunately, NET has started operating with FTTH in some cities (pilot project) and I hope it will soon start to apply in other states and cities.

For example, Serra Negra city:

british telecom
maximum price, slowest speed
primitive infastructure (british telecom are still rolling out copper wire). a complete waste. (british technological 'investment').

ok i got 5.01 .. person who just said 4.1 guessed .. couldn't be bothered checking, getting pic

5.01 british telecom. steampunk network it is

did you know that phones from ~ 1920 will still work on the same network (12V, copper). astounding that is. That is what carries the broadband.

It's not bad, but it was unreliable until recently when I complained continuously for about a week.

Attached: speedtest.png (775x284, 34K)

Where the fuck do you live user?

$55 AUD/month. Pay for 50/25.
Honestly am quite pleased with the consistency of this speed. Very occasional dropouts (once a fortnight/month) but otherwise quite good.

Attached: speedowo.png (350x200, 21K)

$100 AUD/month, pay for 100/2
Occasional dropouts too, on Telstra Cable.
