Why are SD cards such shit and why isn't there a better alternative to this storage jew?
I found a 16GB samsung SD card in a gadget shop and that thing barely lasted a year. They break so easily and they always force you to go out and buy more, because it's the only thing cameras will take. Just why in the fuck are they still the standard?

Dude jews LMAO!

My 8GB MSPro Duo, my 16GB MicroSD and my 1GB MiniSD are all working (tested a few weeks ago).

You are just bad.

Because the good ones are very reliable. Also please understand that higher capacity ones last longer than low capacity ones due to leveled wear.

Also how can you not afford a 128GB one? They're like $30 rn.

My 6 year old mSD still works. Stop writing GBs of data on it every day.

Cool it with the antisemitism bro

It was literally just sitting in a basket, and I barely use it. I don't know how they break.

There's a reason they're so cheap. Is 16GB low capacity in your book?

Very, we have 1TB ones by now and expect 2TB ones by next year at the latest.

theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2016/9/20/12986234/biggest-sd-card-1-terabyte-sandisk

>Is 16GB low capacity in your book?
Yes. I bought a pair of 32GB ones about four years ago for my camera.

16GB is nothing. I have a 128gb in my phone and a 64gb in my wallet. I intend to upgrade to a 256 for my phone at some point.

ar you rarted?

are you new?

>is 16GB low capacity in your book?
>yes, i'm carrying 8x that capacity in a form factor about 1/8th the volume
>you sound like a gay nigger

Are YOU new?

sandisk is pure trash

i've killed half a dozen of them within a week's time each

they only thing left i have now are PNY drives because they aren't dead yet

At this point SanDisk and Samsung are acting like a cartel keeping the prices up
though high price is relative since they still have insane value considering their size, versatility and capacity
but they could sell them for way lower if there would be competition

It could be 2 things:
a.) you got bad luck and ended with the single digit percent of SD cards with bad controllers or really really old ones with no wear leveling algo

b.) capacity was so low you ate through the ~1,000 P/E cycles cheap mlc nand can withstand

I have some low capacity micro sds from more tham half a decade ago that still hold my old ass porn collections

Are people this retarded to be able to breal the damn things?

Not me, it's another user.

It's called a flash drive.

No it isn't.

no, it's rather the usage of them
SD cards were never designed for constant reading and writing, yet they're commonly used in phones and even game consoles, which are in some ways accessing the card 24/7

you're*

fucked that up

I usually check Micro SD cards out on Amazon every 3-4 months out of interest. Jesus fucking Christ when did they get so cheap? 16GB feels like its halved in price. 128GB is like £30, and from SanDisk not some chink shit either.

wew

>I just saw a 400GB Micro SD card going for £157

Jesus fucking Christ when did this happen?

Attached: 81jzRwVgmNL._SL1500_[1].jpg (1500x1093, 125K)

Holy fuck just buy a damn SSD.

>I found a 16GB samsung SD card in a gadget shop and that thing barely lasted a year. They break so easily and they always force you to go out and buy more

wtf are you doing with an SD card that makes them brake?

who is forcing you to break and go buy new sd cards ?

SSDs don't fit into cameras, dumbass. Actually think before you post.

I still dont get it. One of my sds has been in my phone for years and still going strong. If low cap ones are shit then how the fuck do people break them. My 4 and 8 gig sds are fuckin magic or some shit

>wtf are you doing with an SD card that makes them brake?
*break
Nothing, that's the thing. Though, maybe using one to put windows install files on was a bad idea.
>who is forcing you to break and go buy new sd cards
Camera and phone manufacturers

Amazon
>SanDisk 16GB
>10€
>SanDisk 32GB
>11€
you get fucking twice the capacity for 1€ more

>buy chinkshit sd card camera thats worse than a smartphone camera
>REEE WHY DO MY CHINKSHIT SD CARDS KEEP BREAKING?

Virtually all consumer-level cameras use SD cards. Unless you want me to spend upwards from $4000 on a RED camera using specialised storage, then you can get fucked.

got my 128GB mSD from Amazon for less than £30 in 2016
>SSDs don't fit into cameras, dumbass
explain this pic then

Attached: ssd_ntrn_xt_15_2.png (800x533, 455K)

are micro sd's same good as sd cards ?
need one for my camera with better writing speed
thinking of getting the one that OP posted

>explain this pic then
Sorry, I don't have a spare 30 grand.

That camera costs about 1/10th of that

c.)Sandisk is trash and a lot of their storage products are trash

>and I barely use it
that's probably the problem

the way an sd card works is that it uses power to keep the data where it is, but if it's left inactive long enough it will eventually corrupt the data. I have an sd card from 2 and a half years ago that still works because it's in a device that's almost always on

unless the problem is that you reached the write count limit, see

Sorry, I dont have 3 grand

Wouldn't the SSD block the image?

*_*

>cameras that use SSDs
>consumer cameras
hi /vid/

don't do that

Attached: uhhh.jpg (630x518, 49K)

Based and red-pilled.

>buys cheap chink crap SD
REEEEEEE SD SUCKSSS

I have sandisks that are lasting for 3+ years that I use as my /root/ for my embedded devices faggot

If you get the UHS ones they have a 5 year warranty too.
Why would they create shit that dies before a warranty?
Exactly.
Stop buying fake/unbranded sdcards

the only thing that's annoying about these is how much of a bottleneck they are on a raspberry pi. i know pic related is supposed to be faster than the card it came with, but i wonder if it's worth the hassle...

Attached: 81tnJRfTWBL._SL1500_.jpg (1500x1367, 116K)

Whats the matter user?
Could it be you're craving my Mcmoticons? ,':^)

>a bottleneck they are
Wrong.
Those are actually faster than a Pi can handle.
The pis are the literal bottleneck because of their shared USB and m-sd shares the same BUS which limits you.

Odroids can read I/O of a sdcard much faster than a pi because they are separated interfaces.

They also have optional emmc interface if you want even faster flash storage.

pi3b+ can boot from usb if you're game.

>He does not know SD UC I express
poor man

Attached: bus-speed-img.jpg (670x503, 51K)

i was referring to the implementation of microsd storage being a bottleneck for the overall performance of the pi. any way to disable USB and make the SD use the full bus bandwidth or am i being dumb?

from what i've read it solves literally nothing. and considering what the user above you said, i can see why.

>Dude jews LMAO!
))))

wergs on my mageen

BRO 256 GB? PFFF thats (((NOTHING))) I have 2 PB picoSD cards in my phone and I plan to get two 4 ZB ones for each of my nipples BRO

>using a shitty cropped pic
What a poor man indeed

Attached: SD_Express.jpg (700x630, 82K)

>In the future a picture will be gigabytes large

It's funny because the biggest photography shop in the US, B&H Photo is so Hasidicly Jewish that they shut down online ordering on Jewish holidays

peculiar beasts

I agree that the media will evolve, and there will probably be media that would need gigabytes of storage, but as of today, 2018, having 2 tb on CONSUMER device is fucking stupid,
inb4 having all the eggs in a basket
inb4 we are already reaching the limits of media formats respective to our phisiology

>buy a sony a7
>hurr chinkshit camera
>buy nikon d7200 or d800 series
>hurr chinkshit camera

Attached: qyDEyuI.png (1136x640, 367K)

obviously, which is why you only put it in when you need to save something

>They now sell 400GB microsd cards

HOW THE FUCK DO THEY FIT ALL THAT ON THERE BROS

>not buying Canon
found your mistake

>why isn't there a better alternative to this storage jew?
compact flash
USB 3.0

I've never had an SD card fail on me.

re: SSDs in camera

That stuff is all about to change. The camera industry is really behind the times and someone will capitalize on it soon.

I bought a 32GB SD card in 2012 for my then new camera and I've used it consistently since. No problems. Nowadays thats considered tiny.

>samsung
There's your problem

You bought Samsung shit.

Buy Sandisk shit, stupid.

I have a 16GB one in my camera for the last 4 years, still works without any issues.
Maybe it's just you?

>Sandisk
who?

Attached: a.png (786x343, 48K)

Why not design your own medium of flash storage?

there's DSLR's with CF storage too, someone making a REALLY high capacity CF card with good write speeds would accomplish basically the same thing but keep the benefits of removable storage

The creators of the (S)an(D)isk card duh

kek
SD doesn't stand for SanDisk, though Sandisk were part of the SDA which made the SD standard

Sony invented the XQD but noone bought in

Nikon got cucked into using it somehow
nikonusa.com/en/learn-and-explore/a/products-and-innovation/what-is-xqd-and-why-should-i-use-it.html

I've had all my SD cards for years and they still work. I've even got a 64MB miniSD card that works

I use a 4gb sd card for my 3d printer.

Any good professional camera will take CF or SD and CF at the same time.

SD is known to be much less reliable and robust than good ole CF.

Is there any mult-SD-card compatible cameras?
Not as jbod, but as you know, as different volumes.

Because nobody, including me, supported compact flash, which arguably would be better for use cases today, had it been popular enough to receive similar R&D budgets as the SD. But it's larger yes.

c) you formated it as internal storage.

there are

cf, cfast, xqd Sony cards

... sideloading apps barely does any read-writes, and porn is literally just reading which doesnt wear and tear as much

Sony is better than Canon though

Canon’s low light performance and non-animal color science is shit

people are rough to SD cards that they typically jam them into their cameras at angles

it catches on the internal guides for the contacts, and ends up damaging the plastic

source - worked at a camera rental place, seen too many college students come treat the cameras like garbage and their sd cards even worse

some girls literally just had a bunch of sd cards lying around the bottom of their purse

My 4GB Samsung just failed on me after 10 years;( Probably wouldn't happen if I wasn't trying to put one gig of music in it.

what kind of crap camera do you have that does not take cfast2

Fake Sandisk cards are a huge problem nowdays

I started buying Toshiba since they are the OEM for Sandisk and top all the benchmarks pretty consistently

glad to see a fellow white person who is appalled by the rampant anti-semitism on the internet

>why isn't there a better alternative to this storage jew?

There is.
Cloud storage and LTE.

> Toshiba since they are the OEM for Sandisk

Not true.

It's more the other way arround.

Sandisk makes their own NAND and controllers too...

does anyone know how to test SDs and SD readers for reliability?
I'm thinking about building some commercial stuff with cheap SBCs that would store data in SD cards, but I fear they won't last long... what other alternatives are there?

SDs are more expensive than SSDs in terms of capacity, yet they are MUCH shittier in many ways

d) you bought fake sandisks

m.2 SSDs/nvmes are smaller...
