Reminder that watches are technology. This thread is about the appreciation of watches, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine timepiece.

How difficult is it to reset hands on a vintage Seiko 5? I won an old one for very cheap on eBay because it wasn't running, but it just had a screw loose in the automatic rotor. It runs now but the hour hand sits about 15 mins behind the minute hand. Will I risk wrecking the watch disassembling the hands and reassembling them aligned correctly?
Explorer is automatic, that's the only better thing about it.
Adrian Fisher
Where do you guys buy leather straps for your watches?
Easton Brooks
>love the spring drive idea >watch face looks like shit Why
Lincoln Morales
Seiko watches look pretty damn good in my opinion, the only thing that annoys me is that it's seiko.
Aaron Williams
I hate how Rolex makes you pay more for their name than for the work put in to the watch, but the Explorer would be my choice between the two.
Connor Smith
Right now, no. They had been on a decline for like 20 years. Omega has been getting better for the last 5 or so years. Breitling has just started getting better. I'd buy an Omega right now, I probably wouldn't buy a Breitling just yet (or it would be one of the ana-digi ones because they're my guilty pleasure). I expect both brands to make good to great watches in the future.
Zachary Gutierrez
It's not that hard. If you want to be safe, buy a hand puller and a press. If you want to be cheap, small screwdrivers and pliers will work.
Asher Davis
Hey guys. I've lurked these threads for a while, used to be a chronic poster but ive stopped lurking. Im looking to sell a few watches. Let me know if youre keen. I can provide better photos but its night and my lights are shit
Nathan Bell
Sarb035. Pretty good condition. Only the typical marks from desk usage. Brilliant watch actually. Shame to see it go
Im all for supporting brick and mortar businesses, but stay away from them for watch straps
Im not that sure of other good brands. My interest in watches have dipped slightly, back in the day i could tell you a few. Find the lug width of your watch and buy one from the internet. I bought a hadley roma from an ebay seller and had no dramas
Aaron Watson
Thanks.
20mm
Right now I'm looking for something for my moonwatch.
Austin Edwards
Hadley roma might be a bit mid tier for a moon watch. I'd get something better than a hadley roma
Theres an Austrian brand i cant remember the name off.
Ive literally got an appointment next wednesday to see if I'm getting a moon watch or one of these. Hence the sale of my other watches
I've seen something similar but events unfolded differently. The mods on that board weren't gigantic faggots so instead of bitching out and removing the general they banned the shitposters on sight.
Brandon Myers
Check out the new neptune. >rectangled second hand lume aww yiss >aesthic day window very nice >huge numeral slammed on top nope
Thank god for that, otherwise I'd start having regrets for buying the previous gen.
Interesting, I almost expected this. Do you know which Seiko design they started with originally?
Eli Ortiz
Google tells me that the 469 is based off the Seiko 7005
Kevin White
>user prints his own watch case >thread doesn't give a shit at all
THIS IS THE REASON YOU NIGGERS DESERVE SHITPOSTING AND CANCER Boring cucks, cant think outside of their little consumerism box.
user, post more pics, i like your project. People will shit on it, but your watch is still more interesting than this whole thread. I wish more people would at least mod their watches.
The movement in the explorer is more advanced than the movement in the Speedmaster by decades.
It's more robust, reliable and far more accurate. The finishing on the watch is obviously better as well, and it uses 904 steel.
It also has a screwdriver crown which makes it highly water resistant.
Christopher Ward
its inspired by vintage art deco watches and frank muller's curvex case, i just like the shape and i dont think you can find something similar in modern watches. also the flat front/bezel allows for a range of interesting finishes with guilloche or engraving. finishing wise im not sure what im gonna do but i know the bevels will be polished by hand using anglage techniques.
i also designed one with a caseback and spacer so that it could be economically viable to have one cast in gold. the monobloc case is about 107 grams which would be ludicrous in gold. it is a lot more complicated to make though.
I don't know the price on these straps you're suggesting but if the price is closing in on a regular omega leather strap then I'd go for one of those obviously.
I'd go with the moonwatch btw. That's what I did.
Owen Smith
Why is the thread so slow?
Tyler Cox
I only have so many voices in my head
Dominic Harris
1. The shitposters and spammers aren't here (yet) 2. A lot of people have left because of the shitposters and spam
Ayden Bennett
pace is perfectly fine, back to pre 2017 shitposters level
Consider Colareb, Two Stitch Straps, higher end Hirsch lines, and Fluco's higher end lines.
Grayson Gomez
I'm looking for a watch box, but not sure what to get. Where did you buy your watch boxes, and is it something one should look for when buying a watchbox? Or am I overthinking it?
I found a jewelers supplies wholesaler that seems to be willing to sell watch parts to randoms who email them. Fingers crossed hoping they can get parts for jap market watches.
Anyone had experiences with the chinese DG28XX mov't? It's a replica of the Miyota 8215 with hacking function added. Is it any good? I unironically store my few shitters collection in a G-Shock box.
Chase Stewart
I got the cheapest 10 slot one i could find, and it works just fine for holding my shitters.
Julian Ortiz
They are like $30 haha. A nice strap, but a speedy deserves better
The thought I got when browsing through different boxes were the fact that many of them seem a bit "luxurious looking", as if you would store your pateks in it. Like pic related, it looks as if you are going to store pateks and dressy watches in it, doesn't it? Well, I don't own such watches, only two omegas and a fucking tag heuer(gonna sell it), and the rest of my watches are a couple of seikos and I plan on buying a swatch. Future watches I dunno, but certainly no pateks.
Where do you put straps? The one I liked about this one is that it has room for straps. But it only has 8 watches in it.
Connor Sanders
Yeah I think so too. I have the opportunity to buy a standard speedy leather strap from Omega by some guy who wants to sell his (unused) because he only wears nato. It's $600, is that a good price? I mean, I don't know what Omega would sell them for.
Adam Collins
And cheap Kendal brand winders from Amazon.
I put straps in Ziploc bags by lug width and throw them in a drawer.
Your collection is so awesome. I mean, it's so interesting. I've seen that other guy with his pateks and JLCs and Rolexes, which is impressive in another way, but your collection seem so damn fun and interesting, and VAST. Very good my man!
Anyway, the fabrics in those watch boxes all seem quite similar, or is there a difference? Also I've seen some that use leather (or fake leather perhaps) like pic related, is there some kind of advantage of using leather over the soft fabrics seen in your boxes? Or vise versa?
Thats pretty much the same price omega would sell them for and they charge through the room for them. Maybe a premium hirsch strap bruh
Connor Adams
You can buy a super high quality leather strap for less than half of that.
Aaron Ward
Thanks for your kind words. I typically don't worry too much about the box materials. Soft, compressible pillows like the ones in the wolf boxes are nice, since hard pillows often require you to resize your bracelet to get them on properly.
i use a Gisoni watchbox i got as a gift. its actually really nice, cushions have a perfect tight fit. probably cost more than a lot of the slavshit i keep in it.
do you know if there is a way to find a citizen astrodea?
Tyler Cook
citizen astrodea is hard but you can find an accurist celestial ez on ebay. you're gonna have to pay extra for a non hideous non 2 tone one. also its huge
