Chair Thread

How do you guys support your ass during those long sessions in front of your computer?

My current chair is old and worn and has become the most uncomfortable thing to sit on, so I was looking at the IKEA Markus: is there anything else to consider in the same price range?

Get a standing desk. I have a treadmill under mine.

I have a NEETstation a la pic

i have markus. its 'ok'. i cant believe mines already 6 years old

Or he could just do 100 jumping squats a day.

markus is good, but I recommend covering it with fabric, like a bedsheet or something, as the fake-leather will wear down pretty fast otherwise.

You have 4 years left on the warranty, so it's not much of a surprise.

The completely black Markus actually has real bovine leather, the other ones either have synthetic leather or special fabric.
You have to spray the leather once a year or once in 6 months with a special concoction though.

Living the dream
I guess "ok" is good enough, but I'm still interested in knowing if I can get something as good for less money, or something much better for slightly more money. Point is: proper ergonomic chairs cost just too much, even when half price used on ebay, and sure they are great investments for your health, but if you can't afford them you gotta settle for less.
>fake leather
I would get the fabric one, since it's cheaper and should make me sweat less.

I'm just saving up for a second hand Aeron, may as well get it right the first time, currently using an IKEA dining chair so my back is fucked

>if I can get something as good for less money

only if its used goods

there's a reason why IKEA dominates the cheap furniture business.

best.

Ergohuman Mesh Chair

I'm using a Markus (with the arm rests off) and it's good for the price. I only wish the lumbar support was adjustable. I'm spoiled by the fancy ass ergonomic chairs at work.

>Ergohuman Mesh Chair
>the one with legs rest is 829.90€
Yeah, no.

And then donate his knees to science?

how long do you seat daily?
You can't afford that?

>how long do you seat daily?
From 2-3 hours to even a full day.
>You can't afford that?
No, I can't: I'm still a student living with my father.

This.
My next chair will be the best I can get and I won't care for the price. I'm staying all day on that stupid chair. My back will thank me later.

Its a 10 year warranty? Thats pretty good. Also what spray? Never sprayed mine

Nah, given thr choice again id go for the herman miller

Herman Miller Embody.

its p good

Had Aeron and it was not comfy for me. It's forces you to sit upright so you can work better and longer and make more money for your boss.

So I went back to one of those fluffy Italian executive leather chairs.

>a chair that costs like an average salary
It HAS to be p good.

A 50 dollar walmart chair.

I have this one, pretty good tbqh.

>forces you to sit upright
yeah isnt that the point, so that your back doesnt get fucked? chairs like dxracers are murderous

>chairs like dxracers are murderous
No shit, racing seats are designed for holding you in place while cornering, not for ensuring that your back isn't buckling while you stare at a screen in front of you. I wonder who's the evil genius that got the idea to market racing seats to gaymers.

Got the Markus, it's really nice (coming from some no name desk chair at least)

who knows, anyone buying one even the ones with "lumbar" support are fucking idiots

>ergonomic chairs have lumbar support
>they ass a small pillow
>NOW WE ERGONIC AND SHIET TOO

Why are chairs so fucking expensive. Is that because of the fat fucks? Is there some chair that doesn't cost like a middle class car?

Yeah, a used aeron or steelcase leap

>Need a new chair
>Want to buy a nice ergonomic chair
>Nowhere to try them
Awful, absolutely awful.

I just received an Aeron. I bought a refurbished one on eBay for $500.

I'm not sure what to think yet. It's heaps better than my old shitty chair, but it's not that great either. I'm considering selling it for a small profit and get myself a Mirra or a Leap or something.

>IKEA Markus
I never owned this but I did try it at IKEA and I found it to be uncomfortable. I'm 6'4". This chair seems to get a whole lot of praise and it's probably quite comfortable if you're a manlet. Try one before buying if you're 6' or taller.

>both around 800 to 900 bucks, used around 500 and more
Are you fucking serious. I can built a new computer or visit rather good escort for ten times here for that kind of money.

>What chairs are not so expensive?
>Here, have expensive chairs.

>I can built a new computer or visit rather good escort for ten times here for that kind of money.
Shut the fuck up, neither a new computer or ten escorts is going to save your back in the long run.
You can't shell out a bit of money for something you probably use 15+ hours a day?

I ordered pic related which doesn't ship for another two weeks. anyone have experience with it?

Attached: download.jpg (1200x1200, 46K)

>no dad-core seats
Shiggy diggy

Attached: 20180330_142300.jpg (4032x3024, 2.99M)

Yep. The arms are super adjustable, which is cool, and I actually do find myself taking advantage of that fact pretty regularly. I just wish they had more padding.

The headrest isn't removable and not very comfy. Not worth the extra money.

Chair is heavy as fuck. Factor in the cost of a quality chair mat (check out Bison Mats - expensive, but thick as shit and should last a long time).

The reason why these chairs are so expensive is because they are built to last. These are office chairs meant for wageslaves working 10+ hours a day, 6 days a week. They buy these chairs instead of the cheap shitty ones, so companies won't get sued for back pains

A cheap chair can last effectively for a couple years of moderate use before wearing down, but the expensive chairs are meant to last a decade or two

The funny thing about it is I'm 6 foot and I have mine at the lowest seat height possible for my feet to touch the ground. Anyone shorter is going to need some phone books for their feet.

Should I ditch my GTOmega racing chair for a Ikea Markus?

You might have a taller torso than most. Sitting height vs regular height.

agree

For non-manlets (ie actual humans) these won't support the back properly.

Got me this, really expensive but worth it. Its a lot of difference compared to my cheaper chair I used to have. The old one wasn't uncomfortable, but this one has more cushion and the build quality is better. It weights 15-20 KG.

But I would not spend more than 500 € for it, ~300 should be fine if you seek a lasting highend part, everything above is designer/brand tier. I only pay for quality, not names.

Not him, but what can't you possibly understand in the sentence "I can't afford such an expense"? Beside what you can possibly gain by defending those absurd pricing?

Sure they're built to last, but they're not making space-grade hardware, they're producing injection molding reinforced plastic in some weird shape. Sure QC must be high, but there's no way they're not applying an Apple tier markup.

6'2" here and the headrest on Markus is just at the perfect height.

I read in a
reddit
thread that a user with the headrest didn't find themselves relying on it and figured I could save some money. I'm coming from a Markus and decided to invest in my posture since I spend 10 hours a day on a chair. Thanks for the tip on the mat.
The chair is fine if you get it in the fabric option. It's fine if you don't spend most of your time on your chair. After a year of heavy use, the fake leather peels off and the chair becomes a hard mat. Sitting for more than a few hours at a time becomes uncomfortable. I should mention that I'm 6'3" and experienced virtually zero lumbar support. Maybe it's designed for manlets but I don't believe that coming from Swedes; I think it's just a terribly designed chair. The arm pads are comfortable but non-adjustable. It's rather limited in its reclining if you care about that sort of thing. My advice is to spend some time looking for a used Mirra 2 on craigslist (if you find one really beat up you can find replacement parts online affordably) since they're designed to last over a decade.
>GTOmega meme chair
I'd ditch it for a plastic fold out chair 2bh

>been wanting to buy a new chair for 2 years
>not sure if I should go for memesh, textile or leather finish
>still haven't bought anything

Attached: melting.jpg (1200x1200, 1.07M)

mirra 2

>no arm rests
disgusting

how does the seat cushioning work? I have an extremely bony ass that drills through my flesh if I sit on regular-tier office chairs for 4+ hours.
So far the only material that I'm able to sit on all day is the 16cm thick latex mattress from my bed.

OP here I'm 1.65m (5'5" in dumb units), maybe the "lumbar support" can work for me. Scanned ebay and my nation's Craigslist equivalent. No luck in finding anything cheap: it's all on the north side of 300€ when you factor in the shipping.

kys

it has a suspended hammock-like mesh seat with grated gaps to distribute weight and heat efficiently. i don't understand your physiology but maybe look up your closest office chair store and go sit on it.

>parroting this jewish meme

Overpriced chairs are just that: overpriced. They aren't any better than standard chairs you find around, they just have very aggressive marketing campaigns backing them up.

Apparently the closest shop that stocks those is halfway across my country. Seems like I'll have to find something else

There is only so much you can do with a chair. I mean, it's a fucking chair. There isn't any kind of space magic involved. Aerons are ok but they are not worth their price at all.

unlucky. if you can afford it maybe look up the return policies or do your own research on your specific needs. gl user.

I just replaced my old chair (the hydraulic piston kept lowering on its own and the fake leather was coming off and was all over the place) with a new one from Costco. It really enforces proper posture.

I'm really considering starting to save for one of those triple-monitor-mount chairs starting next year. They cost minimum like $3k without the hardware, but I already spend all my waking time in front of a computer so its a good investment.

got an example of what sort of chair you mean?

Thanks my dude. Knowing me, I'm probably gonna end up going to some office chair store and buying whatever seems to be the best.

Yeah, something like this. This one is a bit pricier, I could have sworn I saw a cheaper alternative (still thousands though.) I'll do more research when I start saving.

Thanks, I'll look into these sorts, I'll post in one of these chair threads if I ever make a decision.

I'm looking forward to hearing about what they're actually like.

My old Markus is squeeky and the fabric kinda yellowy from sitting on it in summer in underpants and shorts. I'm broke right now but I want to replace it.
I like it with the armrests off, since I have an adjustable desk and frequently play instruments sitting down that would bump into them.

The new Ikea HATTEFJÄLL doesn't have the high back or mesh, but other than that its a huge step up in every regard IMO. Just wish it wasn't so expensive compared to the larger Markus

bought one used, great so far, loving the arm rest adjust ability more than i anticipated

only the adjustment knobs feel cheap but thats about my only complaint

I hate these threads because all it is is "ergo chair" companies like Herman Miller shilling their overpriced shit. No real information information to be found in these threads whatever.

Is an Eames Chair worth it?

they look so damn good and comfy for reading and laptoping and enjoying music in

Whenever I see those official websites with shit like "90+% recycled materials!", all I can think of is how much cheaper those chairs would be if they were made from non-meme stuff and didn't have a brand attached to them.
The chinks should get to the copying already

This.

While these "ergo" meme chairs are good for your back, they require you to sit straight with perfect posture but they aren't that comfortable.

I got a meme dx racer chair and I can sit right or lay down like a slob and it stays comfortable. It might be overpriced but it's only 400$ of worthless canadian money, anyone with a job can afford it.

Do you have this bound to a key or something? Enjoy your fucked back

>My old Markus is squeeky and the fabric kinda yellowy from sitting on it in summer in underpants and shorts.
How old is it?
>The new Ikea HATTEFJÄLL doesn't have the high back or mesh, but other than that its a huge step up in every regard IMO.
I fail to see how. Maybe the seat has better cushioning, but the design seems bad considering the price.
>Just wish it wasn't so expensive compared to the larger Markus
Yeah, 200€ for a shitty IKEA chair is too much, it's too near the used meme chairs ballpark.

I hate shills too, but if you read this thread there are just a handful of idiots supporting that overpriced stuff with the usual "your health is worth more than money" argument that were quickly dealt with. Considering we're on Jow Forums this thread has been great so far.

Markus is good and cheap.
Bought it because not many chairs support tallish people (Im 186 about 6,1?), unless you spend much more money, without getting much more benefits.

Just bought the chair gain a few month back

A chair that keeps your back in the right position while sitting upright, but is also comfortable and supports your head if you just want to lay back.
Does such a thing exist?

just ordered a secret labs omega, what am i in for?

>I hate these threads because all it is is "ergo chair" companies like Herman Miller shilling their overpriced shit. No real information information to be found in these threads whatever.
Heres some real information for you, the reason the brands like Herman MIller charge so much is because their chairs are ultra-adjustable. Every human has different body proportions, different back curvature, different size. With chairs where all parts of the upper back, lower back, seat, seat angle, arm rest height, all these factors can get dialed in to where its just right for your body. If you go to Office Max to just buy a $200 chair you have to go through and try all the chair till you find one that feels right. And you know immediately the moment you sit down if a chair is right for you. But finding a good cheap chair is entirely luck and usually never exactly right.

>the reason the brands like Herman MIller charge so much is because their chairs are ultra-adjustable
that, plus '95% recycled materials'
plus American manufacturing
plus the cost of the brand itself

Rajeesh tier setup

And most of all the world of business procurement is vastly different from the consumer market. Shit is expensive for the simple fact that companies are willing to pay that much.

>no arm rests
the chair has armrests you fucking idiot

I'm thinking about doing a mesh seat chair, but it needs to be high back and able to lean back.

every padded chair i've had always wears out until you feel the hard surface below since the padding is not that firm.

This. I'm 188, had it at lowest height and pillow ends ~2cm above base of my skull. Armrest is too low. I have no fucking idea who designed it but it's still probably the best in budget range.

if youre a manlet your legs will be too short and you wont be able to touch the ground with your feet

no one wins with this ikea shit
