I fucking hate these OP pictures

also stop listing trannyboot compatible thinkpads and put the superior coreboot instead

Is the t60 the last one with the 4:3 screen?

Isn't cringy to put ibm sitckers on a lenovo?

This is a freedom respecting board, if you don't like it you need to get

So what do businesses do when they retire old laptops? Send them to recycling? Chuck them in a dumpster? Sell them to a local shop? My area should be swimming in business laptops.

Can I just send these major corporate IT departments emails asking to take old hardware off their hands?

Also, bring back anime grils in the OP image thanks

I currently have a x220 with 4gb ram 320gb HDD, should I upgrade it, or buy a new thinkpad, I prefer the ultralight. School requires me to have the following, I was gonna use the thinkpad to VNC into my home desktop. (i7-4770, 24GB ram, 6TB)

They want me to have:
Processor (CPU):
64 bit Multicore Intel® w/ Intel-VT or 64 bit Multicore AMD with AMD-V support

Memory (RAM):
16GB Minimum

Optical Drive:
DVD Multi Dual Layer or external USB Optical Drive (Optional)

Internal/External Storage:
500GB or greater HDD

Network Interface:
Ethernet 10/100/1000 Mbps with standard RJ45 jack (Mandatory)

Wireless Interface:
802.11n/ac

Display:
12.5" HD (1024x768), or better

USB Ports:
2 x USB 3.0 ports

Operating System:
Microsoft Windows 7/8/10 Professional Edition

>Can I just send these major corporate IT departments emails asking to take old hardware off their hands?
give it a try, cost nothing
depending on the company, they sometimes sell it to groups specialised in second hand computers, little business throw them away or forget about them in a drawier

That won't work if you live somewhere that gives a shit about data protection-businesses pay to send hardware to recyclers who securely wipe the HD (or destroy it of requested) and sell the rest of the machine on. These machines then get sold at tech auctions or on ebay. Sometimes smaller companies will throw machines out, go dumpster diving on small industrial estates and you'll sometimes find old business hardware.
I guess contacting businesses will work if you live in the USA or China or somewhere else that data protection and privacy isn't taking seriously.

Would I be able to play PS2 emulated 3D games on a x220 with, say, 8GB RAM and an i5 (thinking about Persona 3)?
Or am I going to need a thinkpad with graphics card for that?

Fugg, I want portability but at the same time x series don't have graphics card so I'm fucked right

Only reason I can think of getting a x210 is being in the special bunch and having the fun of using an old thinkpad with modern hardware. But I'm really contemplating if i should pull the trigger on it

Not all companies farm out wiping laptops for retirement. Many do it internally.

My X1 Carbon 6th gen screen is dimmer on the left and right edges, sort of a gradient/vignetting effect. Is this normal? I have the 1080p touchscreen. Looks like pic related, though less severe.

Attached: CRO_Electronics_OLED_Striping_06-15.png (598x436, 472K)

I played dot hack on x220 with pcsx2 and it ran ok for the most part, but if you're planning to use igpu strongly consider x230 instead, the gpu is vastly superior.

IPS glow? It's normal to a certain extent, can't judge without an actual photo of the screen.

It's much less noticeable than the pic I posted. Tried taking a pic with my phone, and I think it looks better irl. I'd say the dimming is only noticeable for 1-1.5 cm on each edge.

Attached: x1.jpg (1176x882, 59K)

what kind of school puts out requirements like that

It seems normal imo, most ips displays come with a little of glow and it's basically down to luck how good your screen is in that regard.

aside from the 16gb of ram even an x61 can fit those requirements wth

Is it still IPS glow if it occurs at the edges not the corners, and is dimmer rather than brighter?

Right, it's called backlight bleed then, ips screens are finnicky bastards.

Attached: ipspanels-examplesofaw4qcn.jpg (1800x675, 128K)

I thought backlight bleed is supposed to be brighter at the edges for dark colors. My screen is darker at the edges for white/light colors and doesn't seem to have any issues with an all black background (at least in a lit room).

It's not much of an issue, and I can deal with it if it's normal for IPS displays. I just wanna know if I have some sort of manufacturing defect.

no
P3 is one of the heavier games

Is the NT140WHM-N41 (v8.0) panel compatible with the T440? If not, where can I find a list with compatible screens?

So I've never seen an X41t for sale online in the UK and found 1 listing on eBay and it was £100 buy it now with a best offer option, gave an offer of £50 (wasn't even expecting the guy to accept) and then forgot about it because he had 3 days to accept or decline the offer and then he accepted on the last day in the last few hours so now I got it and upgraded to max ram (2gb ddr2 stick + 512mb onboard) and I ordered a ide 1.8" to msata adapter from china to use a cheap 24gb ssd with it.

Are there any other possible upgrades apart from those that I could get for it? I want to get as much performance out of it as possible as I'll be using it when travelling soon but I wont be using it online.

What OS should I get for it? I want something minimal but usable, I was thinking of going with arch and lxde but will that perform any better than plain old lubuntu 16.04?

Also got 3x T61 for £22 total with no HDDs or chargers and only 1 battery (holds about 2 hrs charge with SSD)

Going to be fully upgrading one of the T61s and use as daily driver and obviously give it a good clean.

Attached: t61x41t.jpg (2234x1444, 392K)

is this a good deal for $235? ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-ThinkPad-X230-laptop-Core-i5-3-30Ghz-Premium-IPS-LED-8GB-ram-Windows-10/122121566318?hash=item1c6f03386e:g:7qUAAOSwiu9Zyd4m

MX Linux

Thats just debian with xfce with a bloated ugly ui.

I don't think you're aware that the x41t has a single core pentium m cpu.

debian with wmaker

It will still probably run like shit, I didn't find any system requirments on the page but I bet it wont run well at all on anything less than a dual core.

Need to shave off as much weight as possible in the baggage; removing the DVD ultrabay will reduce it but will it increase battery life as well?
Will leaving the port exposed like increase the risk of damage somewhere? Like dust getting in.

X41t worth 40eur in your opinion? (comes with dock, CDs and 2 chargers).

T61p

I have a T520 i5-2520M coming in the mail. Any suggestions for which CPU to upgrade to in the future?

depends what you're gonna use it for, i need it for very specific purposes and unless you want to use it as a drawing tablet or something it will be damn slow on the modern web.

but yeah 40 euros is a great deal, i only got it with a charger for £50

2720qm

I used wmaker on a P4 and it worked fine

any socket 775 p4 (dont try and tell me you used a s478 one) will outperform any pentium mobile. not only are most p4s hyperthreaded but also have higher clock speed, l2 cache etc

thanks! might as well save my money, the guy has been selling it for 6 months now, and I have an X200s...

Sorry if this is an old question by now, but are ULV CPUs from the xx40 generation really less powerful than the xx30?

yes

Alright thanks I thought it was a meme

Yeah, I liked the K-ON.

i7-3940XM
Like 3x - 4x times slower, around that. The lowest tier M processor on the T530, produces 60% of an i7-3840QM, and that low tier processor is already faster than most ULVs. And this isn't even counting heavy multithreading, or L3 caches

What about t440p, that uses standard M processor, not ULV garbage, right? Is there much difference between the 4100, 4200 and 4300 i5s?

40 euros is a bit less than £40 which as i said is still a great deal though, if he's been trying to sell it for so long see if you can get it for 20 or 30. in a couple of years a fully working x41t will be worth a lot more. just like the 'retro' pentium 3 t2x thinkpads are now and its still fun to max it out.

just been reading some forums and theres plenty of mods to make it faster, you can actually oc the cpu and get native sata support

I have a W530.

I've had it for years.
It's fucking great. i7 CPU, K2000M, 1080p, SSD + HDD, 18 GO RAM, etc.

And now comes the problem.
I want to upgrade from it, but is it even possible?
It's the best computer I've ever had and I fear that I won't find anything better for I don't know how many hears.

Can you even upgrade from a W530?

oh boy lucked out on this 14" T60 i won:
>$20
>libreboot compatible 1400x1050 panel
>ccfl still pretty bright
>c2d t7400
feels good to get a unit that doesn't need much fucking with

guy doesnt want to go under 40, asked him the same thing 3 months ago...

Attached: 1529462594965.png (832x868, 371K)

Not much difference honestly

What OS, and what do you use it for? Anything intensive that uses the hardware fully? Why not go full 32gb RAM?

What thinkpad should I get if I want a really nice shiny thin ultrabook? Something that doesn't look ugly when I take it to Starbucks in the morning.

The ULVs from the *40, *50 and *60 are weaker and the *70 being barely better than the *30 equivalent.

get a mac lmao, also get out

Attached: 1528696375861.png (1026x1038, 730K)

are there any upsides then? do they have a significantly longer battery time?

>What thinkpad should I get if I want a really nice shiny thin ultrabook? Something that doesn't look ugly when I take it to Starbucks in the morning.
Not a Thinkpad.
A Thinkpad is utilitarian.
Not fashion.

just fucking try it you stupid nigger

Longer battery and easier to cool. *70 being barely faster than *30 means they are much better processor, although there are other downsides to those laptops.

The xx40 lineup. They're fucking shit, but they suit the basedstyle well.

CPU model? There's still lots of upgrades for that one, most of them needing some elbow grease.

>and easier to cool
not really, processors get more efficient but these fucking retards shrink the heatsink too for the muh thin söyboy crowd

Well that's still easier to cool - if it wasn't they wouldn't be able to shrink the heatsink

wait
x230 has igpu?

Literally every thickbad has an igpu bruuuhh

Are firewire ports completely useless now? What did you use it for on your **30s?

nevermind, I read it wrong. Thought you were saying it had a whole separate gpu of its own.

How lethal is my T530? Chances of death if I smash it really hard on a nigger's head?

That's pretty good user. Where'd you get it from?

>They're fucking shit
Except they're fucking great with a trackpad mod.

you'll most likely get an angry nigger, maybe with a blurry vision depending on the size of your arms

Contrary to memes by lelnovo shills thinkbads are fragile.

This but unironically
If you spill water on your thickbad right now, chances are it'll go through the slits between the keyboard/palmrest and fuck shit up.
Also the X220/X230 has that left-corner unintended flexibility lmao

I think it's subjective. Compared to a lot of nu-stuff on the market it is durable, and it depends what durability we're talking about as well.
Let me tell you I got a X220T and so far the most memorable episode that made me think "yup, this is solid" was when I dropped it on my foot and my big toe's nail got obliterated. My tp on the other hand, was perfectly fine.

>This is a freedom respecting board
>He does not know why RMS is on the sticky

selling my t430 today boys, had a lot of offers, hopefully this guy is decent, im giving a pretty good deal on it
i just want someone to enjoy it as much as i did

Attached: m.png (1684x2450, 104K)

I bought an x220t for 90$ how fucked am i

w-why is he on the sticky user?

Because he's our Lord and Savior, Papa Stallman

Model number?

daily a485 mention

I fucked up middle button under the touchpad and i can't find any replacement.
Help?

Attached: fug.jpg (3456x4608, 2.14M)

Hi guys,

Backlight died in my T430 (display works fine). Should I replace the motherboard? I tried sending it on warranty but they estimated the repairs would cost 980 USD lol

Multitouch?
That's damn good, mine was 160 but I need to repaste it and shit

Washed my T61 keyboard (with water) and now some keys stopped working properly (takes extra force or a few tries). Help.

Let it dry more. 24 hrs+

use alcohol and dryer

So, I found some 9 cell batterys with a good price on ebay. What I have to look for to check they are genuine?

Attached: 1530077824230.jpg (1000x800, 85K)

Is there a decent T430 screen replacement that DOESN'T require me to flash my bios?

Attached: DfvYdyKUcAAS14H.jpg (901x1200, 80K)

delete all of your cancer, newfag frog memes and I'll tell you

yeah the display from the mx14 mk2 works, i just put it in, all you need to do it replace the cable with the HD+ cable. It took me 30 minutes while doing other things.
The difference is massive.

i'd say memeware m14x a couple of years ago but it's 2018 so go fhd ips or nothing

I guess I'm a brainlet; what do you mean "HD+" cable?
