The FAN was cancelled because it didn't align with rolex's product philosophies. It used a push button to activate the lights, like a pulsar - they weren't always on, so battery consumption wasn't an issue. Very little information is available on it as rolex has never officially published anything.
This site has a good writeup on rolex's quartz development, including their sadly cancelled perpetual calendar, 2.4mhz/32khz self-adjusting dual crystal design that they prototyped in the 80s.

Build quality is shit, the bracelet is worse than a Vostok one. The backlight is interesting though, it starts off normal but inverts the display when the backlight is active.

None. The $300 SARYs are not nearly as good (worse movement and bracelet), the "equivalent" SARX are $800 (same movement, same quality bracelet), and THEY'RE ALL TOO BIG

Ran out of parts containers (again), so I'm using one of these trays. These all need new crystals so until then the movements are taken out.

The SARX line is not equivalent. They have their cases and bracelets made in Japan in the same divisions of Seiko that do cases and bracelets for Grand Seikos, and have much better external finishing than SARB tier models.
SARX models also often have diashield and dual AR coated sapphire crystals.
