it _DOES_ support a wider range of frequencies,
it is _NOT_ s/w, it is implemented inside the connection protocol, e.g. DP/HDMI
it is already available on older h/w that supports eDP, as eDP has it mandatory in its specification.

Nothing really. 860 is 2,5” ssd which is limited to Sata3 speeds.
970 evo has much faster read and write speed and you can attach it directly on motherboard without needing any cable.

There is only tiny difference between these two during gaming but if you sometimes work with massive files the 970 evo is much better choice.
