I still have my old Osborne 386 puter. What should I do with it? Or rather, what can I even do with it?

God this makes me feel old. I can still remember when this thing was new from the store and envy of all.

>Goldstar

Today it is lucky

Install Gentoo.

OP here, I noticed the internal battery has run out and it can't store date anymore.

I opened the computer up but I can't even find the CMOS battery.
What the hell? I've replaced a few of them before but this one just has a huge fucking motherboard and I can't even locate the battery.

take picture

Replace everything a make a gamer pc.

it maybe one of those clockchips that have the battery in them.
a pain in the ass to fix.

is there a hard drive behind one of the bezels? you should get a 5ΒΌ" floppy, or a CD-ROM drive

also, post specs

it's weird how the keyboard, mouse, and monitor tanned more than the case

Haven't opened this up in 20 years and there's barely any dust. What the hell? Why? My modern comp is full of dust in a couple of months.

Attached: DSC_0217.jpg (3610x2400, 1015K)

>it's weird
because it's not the same company who makes the keyboards

Attached: DSC_0220.jpg (2440x3670, 1.02M)

>My modern comp is full of dust in a couple of months.
because it most likely has a million fans to cool shit while the old one probably only has the PSU fan (at low speed)

>it's weird how the keyboard, mouse, and monitor tanned more than the case

Case is actually painted steel, other accessories are just plastic.
This is why.

TORILLE

look for one of these fuckers. if yes then you have a problem.

then you have to do this mod.

perrrrrkele

take ti to best buy for recycling

Nobody has ever envied a Goldstar anything. The brand had become so synonymous with garbage they had to rename the company so consumers would trust them again.

You can still buy them off of Digikey easily, problem is they're like $15-20 each. Modding is the better bet.

Is the black "TADIRAN" thingy next to the speaker the battery?

Well it says 3.6 Volt battery on it and it's directly connected to the motherboard. I'd say that's probably it.
But I don't think I'll find a replacement tonight.

Can't believe they still have this stuff in stock...

And it's expensive.

Why does it say don't touch the transformer? I mean isn't it a common thing to replace them by yourself?

Serious? That's the same Goldstar from Lucky-Goldstar? I don't really know the history of the individual entities that made up LG

OP here, this bad boy has 42 mb of storage space and a 20 mHz processor.
I think it has a couple of 2 mb RAM memories.

OP here again.

The keyboard is missing a couple of keys which is a real shame.

What kind of keyboard should I get for this one? A basic 90's Keytronic or some ultra rare mechanical one?

Turn it into a no-distraction creative environment. I had a Toshiba T3200 about 20 years ago. Wrote a lot of erotic fanfiction about the girls in my class on it. Drew some porn in paintbrush. Played the "blow up saddam hussein" game. Those were the days.

I had an amstrad 386. Counterpoint OS. Shit was cache.

do you have MSD? (microsoft diagnostics)
run it from DOS and see what it says

hopefully your missing keys don't include M,S, or D.

if for some odd reason you have PC-DOS instead of MS-DOS, try qconfig instead

>no distraction

This.
Am I the only one who thinks our modern tech distracts us a hell of a lot?
When I was younger I could concentrate on shit like writing and drawing for hours at a time, now my brain is hardwired to require constantly changing entertainment 24/7.
Thanks social media.

I can't believe how much computers have developed in 20 years.

Maybe you just became a loser with ADHD?

Hmm, speaking of 386,

I had a deskpro 386n lying in the garage since 1997. This is before the restoration.

Complete cleaning and checkup of internal components. (all in really good condition, excluding the Dallas real time clock)

2032 battery mod.You can barely see it under the isa cards.
Network card , sound blaster and a whopping 6 mb of fast page ram. this pc is REALLY picky about ram.

Attached: mods addons.jpg (1126x673, 306K)

Retrobrite on plastic , repainted the metal , it was way too corroded. All working great.

Aren't those vintage monitors expensive as fuk these days?

>>You can still buy them off of Digikey easily
afaik they don't sell the exact same model AND even the """new""" ones usually have garbage batteries by the time you get them

No. Also irrelevant because most new monitors still are compatible with VGA

Guys how safe is it to open up an old monitor for dust cleaning?
There's like x ray tubes inside.

I used one of those as a linux NAT/irc server back in mid 90's, great little pc.

Smash it up and extract the gold from the chips

youtube.com/watch?v=qL01uXfp5mk

Pretty safe as long as you let is sit unplugged and powered on for some time to discharge and don't touch shit inside

That's retarded. Gold content is so low that even the pentium pro (massive """gold""" looking bottom) isn't worth melting, in fact a working CPU fetches far more money than stupidly destroying it

Holy shit user my sides

>Wrote a lot of erotic fanfiction about the girls in my class on it. Drew some porn in paintbrush.

I actually did this in the 90's. Holy shit was it hard to draw with the 90's mouse.

drawing is much easier with a mechanical mouse tho. its almost impossible to draw a straight line with a optical mouse.

Nah. I always draw with a cheap optical mouse.

Install Gentoo

it's all about getting used to your tool

take a pic of the WHOLE board. even the parts under that metal chassis on the right

some old boards had the batteries they looked like a capacitor, but it was a battery. sometimes they had blue shrink wrap around them to designate them from other components... they didnt have the coin batteries for them back then.
