Do you sometimes forget the name of your CPU and is disk temperature something you really need to know at any given moment? Just asking because I have never actively monitored it - am I just lucky I don't have constantly overheating disks?

The name just happens to come in if you select the Core temps. Its not really removable with OpenHardware Monitor. And it IS a major concern on the W520. The stock heat sink is only rated to dissipate 55watt - The GPU is 35watt and the CPU around 50watt.
Also this laptop uses Msata SSD's and they tend to get quite warm and thermal throttle around 60*. Its nice to just have a quick glance to see if that's why an application or file is taking a long time to load.
