What is Tor useful for?

I was wondering what are some reasons to use Tor other than privacy. Ive heard of people using it on the pirate bay which is why im interested in it.

Dark web

I do all of my banking and credit card payments with Tor because I want to be secure. :^)

>Ive heard of people using it on the pirate bay
The Pirate Bay? Is that still online? The last time I tried one of the new domains I realize it was trying to using my PC for that shit of coin miner.

Yes its still around

Hiding stuff from your ISP. Like proxy but layered and obfuscated and therefore more reliable.

Is it useful for torrenting without a vpn? Or adds a layer of protection?

don't use it for torrents, it doesn't do anything

>I was wondering what are some reasons to use Tor other than privacy.

It is a nice example of security software that outlived its usefulness. It's a historical piece of software but, unfortunately, law enforcement finally found a smart answer to it. RIP TOR You were a beauty but now you are old

It penetrates firewalls especially with obfuscated bridges, you can host a site securely without a TLS certificate, and it makes other Tor users more anonymous when you use Tor.

No, it's offline for me.

Use the hidden service.

>Hiding stuff from your ISP.

Why does your ISP know who you are?

torproject.org/about/torusers.html.en

and darknet markets.

I personally use it to reach the pirate bay, which is blocked by my ISP and for increased privacy (hiding my real ip etc.)

Some countries block piratebay

Because they control all routes, can MITM anything, can afford to forge certificates that look real, own the dns, etc. There's always a VPN, but then the VPN is now in between your traffic and your destination.

>have an unlisted http server
>access via tor exit
>next day it's crawling with bots from spooks
Thanks Tor, you're oh so very secure having all the exits run or tapped by feds.

>What is zmap
You can't hide on legacy ip faggot.

it literally was dead quiet for weeks until I used tor.

Where they using the hostname or ip? If the hostname it's possible a exit which is sniffing if the later most likely coincidence. Anyway that's a well known limitation on not part of the threat model Tor is designed for.

it was by IP.
I learned the hard way that Tor exit traffic is bare naked to the exit oper, and when the government runs them all....

torrenting doesnt work on tails. IT WILL REVEAL YOUR ACTUAL IP ADDRESS

source: tails website

>when the government runs them all....
The government monitors ALL traffic the only difference on Tor is that they don't know easily WHO sent the request. You should threat the internet the same way. Someone is reading your traffic. Just use TLS and it is no longer an issue.

I'm just saying your "anonymity network" is fucking capped and tapped. Why in the fucking HELL would I use the world's most monitored computer network for privacy? fuck off.

Secrecy, privacy, circumventing obnoxiousness, etc.

Because ALL networks are monitored and Tor still provides anonymity because the exit node does not know who you are and that is the whole point about anonymity.

So it's pointless to use Tor since everything is monitored anyways. gotcha.

It's fun.
(with TorBrowser running)
curl --socks5-hostname 127.0.0.1:9150 a.4cdn.org/g/thread/66571295.json
youtube-dl --proxy socks5://127.0.0.1:9150/ -f 18 --restrict-filenames --geo-bypass-country US 'youtube.com/watch?v=6j9PTfDqbU4'

>They know that "someone" accessed a site i better don't use it so they know I am using a site.
They monitor the traffic but it's not an issue for most threat models because who is requesting a site is not known and in 2018 99% of all sites provide TLS and therefore the content is also protected.

You seem to not understand the concept of traffic shape.

Change your DNS. Your ISP is blocking it.

Not in this context. Please enlighten me.

Tor WAS (key word: was) a general purpose privacy network but it recently rebranded as a "human rights protection" network. It smells like a honeypot for collecting traffic shape of activists to use against them in court. This has happened before, Tor is a tool to entrap people and lul them into a false sense of privacy.

Nuh uh. Tor was built by the Navy to support the secret societies of the NWO. It is uber secure, yo!

Attached: illuminuti.png (736x736, 1.33M)

fuck off, it's sad to see Tor fall like it did, it had a fighting chance but it died from infighting and letting political activists run the project instead of engineers.

That's FUD gibberish. Tor software engineering is first rate and the network is very well supported. It is an exemplar of open source software as a social tool to support the rights of the citizens of the world.

keep complementing yourself tor boy but it won't unfuck your network.

Don't torrent through Tor

Tor is fine on the 'darknet' or within the onion. But if you're going from Tor to clearnet, it's a vulnerability. Just use exit nodes in Switzerland, Netherlands, Iceland, Romania, Seychelles, etc, etc.

>Tor is fine on the 'darknet' or within the onion.
LOL. You don't realize you're a moron, do you?

This. A $23 donation to the not-for-profit foundation gets you a cool sticker pack!

I cant never find porn. I remember hearing about pinkmeth onion(sort of like anonib). Where do you find the onion sites?

I just donated $23.

------------------------
Dear Friend of Privacy,

Thank you! With your gift of $23.00, you're standing up for privacy and security while helping the Tor Project protect the lives of at-risk activists and journalists throughout the world.

Your contribution helps to make Tor an even stronger tool against authoritarian governments and privacy-invading corporations. Here are some of the things we will work on this year, thanks to your generous support:

* We will bring Tor's privacy and anonymity protections to mobile devices as we build a robust Android browser.
* We will make Tor code easier to implement in third-party apps.
* We will create sandboxes for additional operating systems to further protect Tor users from untrusted programs.

Here's another way you can help. Tell your family, friends, and colleagues that their gifts can also be matched when they support Tor this year! Here's a message you can use on Twitter, Facebook, Mastodon and other social platforms:

Help me power digital resistance! I donated to @torproject: donate.torproject.org

I might volunteer to run a relay and maybe an obfs bridge into the network (but not an exit node).

Are you serious? Is this your first ten minutes here? Some of the most hideous sick fucks on the planet post here. Politely letting a moron know he is a moron is gentle play here.

It's good for sharing leaked documents securely.

In your circumstance it's no more secure than ssl

Torrents have a protocol of harvesting your ip whether you go through vpn or onion routing.
If your concerned about protection you could try a vps running transmission.

I think it closed recently

I remember reading about correlation attacks by big boy intelligence services. It however requires impairing access to multiple tor relays etc. and if even this couldn't be used against a large minority at the same time.
Is there someway they've gotten around this?

Yeah, they used javascript instead and went after low hanging fruit to get inside, then busted the rings from the inside. Correlation works and has been used in the wild, but it's really hit or miss without owning ALL of the entry/exit nodes.

>Torrents have a protocol of harvesting your ip
You make no sense

Who here doesn't have tape over their webcam?

nyaaa you know what I meant.

I have tape over my laptop webcam but not over my phone so idk why I bother

Me. I didn't install any drivers for it though so it doesn't work anyway

enabling javascript for payment, fucked your anonymity.

And what if they install a driver remotely in your computer?

Hack into their mainframe via the backdoor I left open

of course, bank of anonymity and anonycard are known for finding out the identity of their customers with javascript.

If I've been fucked hard enough for an attacker to grab footage from my webcam then I've got bigger things to worry about.

>MITM

yeah all that shit is nice and can be done by them
but that doesn't help them a whole lot if they don't know who owns/pays for the inter.net connection

use disposable si.ms and buy pr.epay phone cr.edit is what I was getting at

they can triangulate your location pretty easily fąm

you're a newfag arent you?

Nice one

Torrents are on I2P now
It's pretty much the only thing I2P is used for now
From 60 LeaseSets that my floodfill router is storing, 50 of them are Vuze web interfaces.

Well I personally only use it for child porn. There’s a site called Topic Links 2.0 and it’s *the* directory that pedos always choose their sites from.
