post your shitpads fgts

How do I go about fixing and reinforcing an x220/x230 screen bezel? I got my laptop refurbished and it still has a warranty from the shop I got it at, but they might not fix it (I haven't contacted them yet, and I don't think it is worth it if I have to ship the whole laptop out). I am thinking of using JB weld to fix the broken parts, but I am not sure about reinforcement.

>decided to go the flea market with my sister
>its a bunch of chinks and hicks selling stupid shit
>not really interested in anything
>see a large African man selling old tech related stuff
>decide to take a look
>he's selling some old thinkpads and macbooks
>decide to take a look around because he's probably selling them for cheaper than you can find them online
>take a look at all the chinkpads
>considering buying an x200
>they're in decent quality but this guy's whole store is really sketchy so I decide not to buy anything
>walk away and look some other stuff
>guys seems obviously mad that I look through his stuff and didn't buy anything
>later I finish looking at everything and head back towards my car
>pass the African gentleman's shop again.
>he's giving me a death stare

yeah I'll just stick to buying online.

Decided to pick up this one. I have a W510 right now, but the battery life is shit due to not having switchable graphics, and the GPU is pretty shit anyway. Only issue is that the palmrest is in pretty bad condition.

I'm thinking I might sell the W510. I upgraded it to the FHD screen, but I'm not sure if that will get it enough resale value to be worth selling vs keeping around as a spare.

Attached: file.png (505x149, 20K)

Please sir how do I be unsubscribing?

>A485

Forgot to mention, the one I just got has the Quadro 2000M and FHD screen, so those two things alone make it a good deal.

Hi Jow Forums

dropped this a few times, but the most recent drop did this.

do I only need a replacement back cover panel, or a back cover panel + a palmrest?

Attached: think.png (511x673, 507K)

You'll need to disassemble it to find out.

build a time travel machine to go back in time to catch the laptop just before it hits the floor

then go back to the night you were conceived and kill your parents

I would sell. Not to try to dissuade you from having spare parts on hand, but basically anything under sandy bridge is just a little too old now.

intel core 2 duos and the 1st gen i5/i7 processors could still be used for web browsing, but truly - do you really want to put up with that when much better options are available at bargain prices now?

You'll need to pop her apart.
Looks like it might just be palm rest, but you should make sure before ordering parts.

Budget £1500/$1979

I've got a x220 but it's falling apart literally. I need something with a CPU for programming. x220 seems kinda slow when I'm compiling large projects. I don't give a shit about games at all

p52

pic related is me waiting for customization option on the P52

Did I do good? Just payed 220 dollars for a Lenovo T430 Intel i5 3rd Gen 3320M 2.60GHz 8GB RAM 128GB SSD Win 10 1600x900

Attached: s-l400.png (400x361, 242K)

pretty good yes
remove win10 shitware though

Just a reminder that I have a problem:
>Latitude E6440 with 1600x900, AMD gpu

if not specified, refurbished thinkpads come with battery and charger, right?

Attached: panic.png (305x359, 199K)

The HP Elitebook 2570p is generally superior to the x220 and x230 guys.

nah
The 8470p is better than the T430 though.

>main computer
>1366x768
How can you live with this?

I'm perfectly content on 1024x768 actually, so the extra horizontal pixels are a nice bonus.
Don't fall for the resolution jew user

nice try, retard

Just realized I need to redo that

its more likely that it wont come with anything thats not specified

>X200 without battery for $35 arrived
where & what battery should I get?

any modern website wont fit on such screens. the memescript framework elements are too big so you get scrollbars in all directions and a line of text takes 30% screen space

How much for the T420?

Attached: IMG_0258.jpg (633x640, 61K)

>but this guy's whole store is really sketchy
Define sketchy.

No problems here
Good fucking deal, especially with how fucked the X200 market is because of trannies

Don't try lowballing me, I know what I've got!

whole store consisted of just a few tables with some stuff just strewn about randomly, run by a disheveled looking African gentleman

i mean the shit tier 1024x768 resolution. it will look even worse if you force some tiny font on those shitty screens.

>giving up an X200 because of that dumb shit
fucking beta males

why does that matter to you? i would buy if he sells much cheaper than others

Not him but it works for me despite my main desktop being 1440p i can use this 1024x768 thinkpad without issues at all.
In fact i wouldn't mind using nothing but this thinkpad for the entire year even with this resolution.

Attached: j.jpg (1024x768, 252K)

That deal was too good I'm a fucking idiot.

Attached: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.j (581x581, 16K)

Only noticeable thing is the missing plastic near the right hinge.

Attached: mrdka1.png (992x744, 920K)

Other than that, I'm quite satisfied with the deal.

Attached: IMG_20180702_012208.png (744x992, 781K)

>whole store consisted of just a few tables with some stuff just strewn about randomly
You said it was a fleamarket, what else did you expect?

I figured if I changed my mind I could always just come back. he's probably not selling it to anyone else any time soon. Also I was with my sister who's an embarrassment to be around in public so I kinda just wanted to leave. If I was by myself I probably would've at least asked for prices.
some of the chinks running stands at least had stuff organized and on shelves and shit not just thrown on a fucking table.

I'm having second thoughts now though and I might go back tomorrow and check it out more.

>tfw I thought I had a problem until I see this guy

To be fair though, I'm tempted to do the same

its so enticing when you know they can be had for so little now. Even more so when you have them in front of you.

post pics of your collection. do you have them all in one place?

>on shelves
I'd recommend a MacBook with retina display, it seems like it would be a perfect fit for your lifestyle.

yeah that's no issue at all
enjoy user

Should I download Lubuntu on my old thinkpad 600?

Attached: HBPqCEMZFqVEndDP.large.jpg (800x600, 65K)

When I get the time I'm gonna take them all out, I need to repaste a lot them, install libreboot, change some fans etc.
I think at this point I'm set
These aren't up to date mind you

this thread has become so shit

Looking for good battery life with good screen. Coming from a 2017 13" MacBook Pro. Want to move to exclusively Linux. Help a brother out pls

>Looking for good battery life with good screen
kek not a thinkpad

Just out of curiosity, whats the lightest thinkpad? (something that's actually usable today)

x200

Dunno, but the x301 is definitely up there, especially if you don't put anything in the ultrabay.

x1 carbon?

>nearby APs are visible
>can connect to them and the password prompt appears
>tries to connect for a while (30s or so) and then auto disconnects, can't establish a connection to the AP
Please help me with this Jow Forumsoys, got a pretty cheap "for parts" X220 and this is the only issue it has but it's fucking annoying.
Happens on both Windows and Linux, already tried with W7, W10, Fedora, Solus, Xubuntu and the same thing happens.

whew, finally got my triple boot working on my x220. Apparently I'm too stupid to properly configure clover, so it took a few days. Now it shows all three OSes and boots them properly. Feels good.

On another note, I realized that the panel that came on this thunker is one of the IPS panels that has serious ghosting issues... Would it be worth replacing for a better one? I only spent $85 on the laptop, but I've already put $50 extra into it buying a MSATA and new wireless card...

Check that antennae are properly connected to the card. Try re-seating them.

If that doens't help, probably a bad card. Mod the bios and toss in an Intel 7260.

>clover
Did this meme OS actually get off the ground?

Considering getting a L380 or E480. What’s wrong w/ these series of thinkpads vs X or T

Already done, even tried with the wwan antennas to no avail. Also a wlan card can work without antennas but the range will be shit, i've done it before.
I'd have to buy a wlan card to test then since i don't have a spare one right now, it's the first time in my life i see a broken wlan card.

I think he means the macOS bootloader m8

I do. I personally wouldn't use CloverOS desu.

Currently have Win10, High Sierra and Archlabs. Feelsgood.

o fuk my t460 has the same bg

>refurbished thinkpads
You messed up

hi guys. i'm planning to get a thinkpad alongside my main setup, and plan to run deb or void with xfce on it. my choice is between the x220, the t61(p) and the t420. Which of these would be the best choice? They are all avaible for the same ~100-130 euros where I live

Attached: 1522011347174.jpg (752x925, 100K)

you seem like a sheltered virgin. you are the embarrassment, not your sister.

You're getting a worse built product but way less shit compared to older L and E series
I mean as long as you're not buying literal ideapads with (or even without) trackpoints with the thinkpad label slapped on them you're not doing too bad. Go read notebookcheck

If you're buying a computer to take with you on the go as in your main setup is an okay desktop, X230 or X220
If you can't stomach 1366x768 and don't feel like waiting for a 1080p kit, T430 or T420

They're basically the budget models.
Figure out what you want, because you might be better off with a used T series.

>1080p kit
Thanks for you advice user, i love you. can you ellaborate on what the 1080p kit is?

>>tries to connect for a while (30s or so) and then auto disconnects, can't establish a connection to the AP
Old netgear AP?
A lot of old 'late-draft-standard' APs send out broken beacon packets that will cause Linux wifi drivers to disconnect. Started happening last year when the kernel devs disabled the bkeakage-tolerant code as it's a security risk.

My niece is fed up with her Lenovo Ideapad 320, and has taken a liking to my X201. She wants me to buy her a new laptop.

She wants a 12.5" screen, and prefers a non-tablet design. I've basically come down to either the X220 or the X230 for her. She's got about $130 to work with.

Should I get a higher end X220, or a mid range X230? I plan on upgrading it with an SSD.

>tfw your niece will never be my qt gnu/linucks gf

Attached: 1513359288621.png (1200x963, 102K)

>ordered a used P50 for 1000 bucks
>next day get email that I can't use a gaijin credit card (I'm in Japan)
>whatever, the search goes on
>just now found a shop in akiba where it sells 40 near fully loaded P51 for 1300 bucks each
>the offer literally just went up
Whew. Talking about the right time at the right place. For just $300 more I get from a base P50 to a loaded P51.

Get her an x230, the better battery life will be better for her normie needs, then have sex with her

Nah already tested on three different APs, none of them being Netgear.

OK, well, then, kernel/daemon logs?
Time skew can do it too.

Probably shouldn't have convinced her to buy a fucking Lenovo Ideapad from fucking Amazon.

All she wanted to do was play fucking Dragon Age and you fucked her with some AMD crap.

>x230
>better battery life
Is that true? I doubt it since it's almost the same as the x220.

Well since the X220 and X230 only comes in peepeepoopoo resolution and peepeepoopoo resolution but """ IPS""" people have resorted to making their converters for 1080p and 1440p screens
Now the there are basically two sources to get kits if you're buying directly
One is by a guy named Nitrocaster on thinkpad forums or whatever it's called
The other can bought off taobao from some really clever chinks. These also come in 1080p or 1440p

Each kit has its own drawback but I don't remember any enough to tell you

The 320 Ideapad is fucking AMD dude it probably gets 2 fucking hours.

Doesn't matter
Get a generic X220 and a ssd and save some cash

How does the installation of these kits work? Do you just put in a new screen? I don't get it

Attached: rin.png (194x180, 36K)

Her mother completely disregarded my advice last year of "consult me before you buy a laptop" and bought that piece of crap from walmart.

Now my niece is in college and working part time and has approached me by herself to get her something better.

I thought you were comparing it with the x220.

They usually come with a little converter board and you clip that on to your original display cable and connect that up to a 12.5" 1080p screen

so it doesn't come with a new screen? Does the x220 or x230 even sport enough power to run a 1080p screen?

Literally does not matter
She has a shittop
A T60 would be an improvement
Just get a regular tier X220+ ssd

Some of the taobao ones do but the Nitrocaster one doesn't
And the X230 can run low end AAA from this year and the X220 isn't too awful either

It's not that simple, you need solder it to the motherboard.
youtube.com/watch?v=nBvfJ0EHtcY

>low end AAA from this year
what is that? excuse me for being a retard
I don't have a soldering setup and never learned how to solder in school. I think I should not do this if I don't know what I am doing

It seems like that but it's literally like melting glue and connecting strings in said molten glue
