Have you guys heard about the 13.3 inch fhd monitor on the x230? forum.notebookreview.com/threads/thinkpad-x230-successful-upgrade-to-13-3-fhd-msata3-0.811922/

What program is he using there, I read a lot on my laptop and that shit looks comfy

Where's the trap?

T430 ordered. I'm scared that coreboot is going to be a nightmare to install for the t420 keyboard, new wifi card, and the quad core cpu. Is it a super difficult mod to do?

Hi. Thats me, using mupdf and inverting colors by pressing "i".

T440s masterrace reporting in

Direct upgrade over the x220/t430 in every single way.

Yes, the modern keyboards are nicer to type on. The just aren't as aesthetically pleasing.

>2018
Why aren't you using a 1920x1080 ips display?

>inb4 "U" processor
Its a laptop, not a workstation. I use 1 core, and the U line is extremely energy efficient.

Stop falling for the x200/t420 bait, these are old, unusable toys.

>MFW I GOT MY T440s for $180 in mint condition

Get the t440p instead, direct upgrade.

>T440s

you dun' goofed

Thanks user, I typically use PDFtools inside of emacs, which is good for split-window use, like when I've got a reference manual in one and a source file in the other, but when I'm reading fiction it's much more preferable to just have the one window open

I understand. Mupdf is really cool, barely uses resources and has some nice autozoom/fill features with (capital) Z H W etc. Also rotating with r and ofc inverting with i.

I refuse to use the island style keyboard.

idab pls go

what makes the t60/t61 any better than the t400? why would I choose it over the t400?
They both run the same processor and accept libreboot so I don't see the benefit of staying on the t60 series so many swear by.
By the time the t60 came around, they were IBM in name only anyway.

I can understand wanting to stay away from the t420 though because i5+(((vpro))) botnet but there is nothing inherently more botnet about the t400 over the t60.
Hell, a t60 is MORE expensive than a t400.

Ia it just nostalgia factor?

Attached: 1520879164213.gif (400x381, 602K)

We should consider taking out xsauc's laptop guides from the OP, I doubt anybody is still reading that crap and it's not focussing on ThinkPads, which is what this general is all about in the end.

People really like that IBM logo

T60 isn't necessarily more expensive, can you give me a more concrete example? Something from your area preferably, that'd make your situation more believable.

then why does every fuck here with a t60/1 have the shitty lenovo one?

If you want real IBM you have to go for the t40 series anyway

I know that, it may be because of the screen then.
Everybody likes that 4:3 monitor.

a used t60 is usually 45-60$
used t400 can be 40-55$

I just want someone to tell me why I shouldn't get the t400. It seems like the newest laptop I can de-botnet

Saw a few leddit threads that said you can get a 4980hq to work in a t440p as long as it has pga adapter soldered, so I’m ordering one from taobao once my t440p arrives.

>trannyware

nice collection dude

coreboot is enough. libreboot is a meme. sorry you fell for the bait, RMS

>dusty lenovo battery off amazon asplodes on arrival
should I just get a jap/chink one off aliexpress for my x230 & x200 and just be done with it or will it melt my machines?

worked for me, five times

Shouldn't be an issue. I guess the only issue you might need to keep an eye on is the battery wear as third party battery will wear out faster from my experience.

he obviously means coreboot

>Yes, the modern keyboards are nicer to type on
They have less flex and better feel but the layout is absolute shit. F-row is harder to feel around on, they have the printsc key in a godawful location for no reason, delete is further away, etc.
I don't know why they don't give us island style keyboards with the old layout, it would make everyone happy.

>it would make everyone happy.
It wouldn't make me happy. There are things I prefer about the old keyboard layout, but overall I prefer the new one.

>prefers things about the new keyboard layout
Name them

If nothing else mattered, what's the best TP for battery life?

anything with a 9cell split

>If nothing else mattered
Probably a T510 or newer with a 9-cell main and 9-cell slice. That's about 180Whr between the two.

I am looking on a cheap x60s for 40$, mainly for taking notes at uni and playing with Linux. Anything that I should be aware before buying it?

if it's $40 it likely doesn't work

Fully working, but I will buy without the HDD(I have a 60gb kingdiam laying around) and have only 2gb of ram. Some scratches and the battery holds only 1 hour. I am getting it with discount and will do some work on it(9 cell, ram)

Precision m6800 owner here.
I Swapped out the Firepro m6100 for a quadro k5100m out of the laptop but the Firepro had a slab of thermal pad under it. I left it on there after the swap but its transferring memory heat right onto the PCB. Can anybody confirm if that's okay? Literally every bone in my body yells at me to take it out but so far nothing has caught fire.

Is that pic OC, OP? If that so, where I can find a good, cheap TP in Argentina? The nearest from Ramos, the better

T470 IIRC, 16 hours web browsing on that single battery

how do you know he is in AR

He can't be sure but the gun is Argentinian

This More so, Ramos Mejia is close to my home. And even closer from my uni.

Bersa is an AR company who exports to the US for retards to buy

good on you for buying local
how do you like it

If I want to connect two additional monitors to my T430 do I need to buy a docking station?

This might be a noob question, but if i order a thinkpad off ebay, install linux, and then need a refund, can I expect to get one or does that void the warranty? I tried messaging a few sellers, but I have yet to hear back yet

>then need a refund
i dont think you understand how ebay works

>I don't want to risk it, just for trying. I really need to change it. The 250v is from the t430 charger and I want to plug that one into the t470p's charger (90w I think). So, If I understand correctly, the one of the t430 uses/handle more voltage than the t470p one. About the Amperage, I don't know how it works
The voltage is determined by what you plug it into.
~120v for a US socket, ~240v for most other parts of the world.
Something rated for 240v can be plugged into 120v and it will be fine, but the reverse isn't true. It's possible the 125v cable can handle 240v, but I wouldn't risk it.
The power brick itself is likely universal (can accept 120v or 240v) but you should look at it to make sure.
>Amperage, I don't know how it works
The laptop itself will use some amount of power (watts) at any given time. watts = volts * amps. If the laptop is using 50w, then ignoring losses in the power brick itself, it would be pulling .417 amps (if you're running it on 120v) or .208 amps (if 240v).

If you're in the US, there's absolutely nothing to worry about with either cable. The power brick is still going to get 120v delivered perfectly fine, and to blow past a 2.5A limit would require the laptop to be sucking down 300w (it's probably using 1/10 that amount).

Thanks you very much, really. Also, If I understand correctly, beside working properly in the US, It can be used in other parts of the world too? and if I change to a 135w power brick, it can handle it too?

>It can be used in other parts of the world too
With the 250v cable, yes.
>and if I change to a 135w power brick, it can handle it too?
Well, judging by the pic, it looks like at some point they switched from ungrounded (2 prong) to grounded (3 prong), so just make sure whatever charger you get is the correct one.

Anyone? pls respond

Well if its the original one and still works people would pay $15 for it on ebay so who knows.

Can I put a Samsung 960 EVO Series - 250GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V6E250BW) into a t440?

T440 or T440p?

t440

Then no, you have the gimped version.
You need a 2242mm SSD, check Toshiba RC100 for a good one because everything else is literally form china and has horrible quality and speeds.

The 960 EVO is a 2280 SSD, this is why you cant use it.
Also why don't you just use a 2.5" SSD? it will be cheaper and better unless you do something in specific.

Thanks.

Just got a T480, feels good.

I was going to but didn't because i realized the upgrade from my current T440p would be marginal, for like $1600.

>Tfw saving to upgrade from a T440p to a P52 because job wants me to travel from city to city
P72 when?

Can I get more than 6 hours of text editing and light web browsing on an x201?

Is there any advantage of the x20q over the x230?

X201?

What should Babbie's first thinkpad be? I wanna watch movies, yt vids and chink cartoons on it

Anything that fits your budget.

Probably won't be running win on it too. Bunsen or debian, most likely

Attached: 52820247_p0_master1200.jpg (983x1200, 674K)

I got a budget of about 150-200 euroshekels.

nice collection user, I have a T500 too

Yeah, im a dumb phoneposter

How do I check if my T60 is compatible with lireboot?

So far this month, I have bought 7 ThinkPads. Sort of.

2 x62s,
1 T70,
4 X210s.

This will be some fun building!

X220 i5, 8GB RAM, 256gb ssd in mint condition for $180 aus bucks. Worth it?

just got received my x220. why is the trackpad so shit? fucking mouse is jittering around all over the place

The SSD makes that a decent deal. I'd take it.

>not loving 4:3

go for it

Are you on windows? You might need to install drivers for it.

t430 with aliexpress ips 1080p kit

doesnt that one have a bad keyboard?

Try it and swap it if you don't like it. The main advantage of the xx30 series is better video card performance and better battery life.

is it that easy to just swap out for a more classic style keyboard? also, you suggested me to get the 1080p kit. is it simple to install?
