NVENC x265

currently using StaxRip for NVENC x265,

shill me on any better encoder to use for recompressing my h264 jav collection.

Kys

fuck you. how else do i encode 15tb in a reasonable time

Why would you recompress it when it's already been compressed and encoded?

For lower filesizes, most likely. I have been converting some files to VP9 for the same reason, but shit is slow as fuck and AV1 is going to be even worse.

has there been a good implementation of a standalone VP9 encoder?

Shit that's genius. I need to convert my stuff too
loser poorfag

How long would it take to compress let's say a 20 minute 720p video? Does faster gpu makes the encode go faster?

>HEVC
>Not waiting for AV1 hardware encoder

KILL YOURSELF FAGGOT

ffmpeg hevc_nvenc + constant quality mode + preset hq + GTX 1070 = 140-150 720p frames per second.

Yeah, I like waiting forever too.

I get 95-100FPS when using ffmpeg to convert 1080p video from h264 to hevc (h264_vaapi, hevc_vaapi). Tested with RX480 and RX550, same results for both.

>has 15tb of jav porn
>wants to compress them even more to save space

fuck off remaster them on avsynth at 4k and get done with it

Just use TR 32 cores like that fucker implied

I'd honestly recommend SW encoding with some PP smoothing avisynth filters and a CRF of 16-22 in meGUI instead. It would get you like 5-10x smaller file size which is the whole point of your intended transcodes. HW encoding is nice but really only for recording live video or streaming.

>hardware encoding
>already compressed h264 to h265, hello artifatcs
>jav, probably censored
OP, don't be a faggot and give us torrentsync of your collection.

the idea is to re-encode every couple years when the new memecodec comes out.

what can a man do? even if i downloaded direct from dmm, there would still be source artifacts.

Then why not use the codec to it's full potential then? You're using the wrong tools for the job, you're like a chef trying to cut vegetables with a butter knife. Yeah HW encoding is fast but you're trying to reduce file size which it can't do compared to SW encoding.

If you don't have the raw hardware power then rent a xeon VM or something. If you can't even afford that then just don't encode at all, with HW encoding you'll most likely end up with the same H264 file sizes with the same or worse video quality.

If you want to keep the image quality you simply can't use hardware encoding, it isn't made to do clean encodes, it's made to do quick encodes for on the fly encoding.

For streaming media, that's fine.

But for long term storage on a media server? That's fucking retarded and you're just degrading the quality of your video by using hardware encoding for all of it.

>not encoding raw/lossless
>probably doing it manually instead of leaving an ffmpeg script on a server that spits everything out in a few hours

Where the fuck are you gonna get the 4:4:4 prores 1,500 Mbps video, dipshit?

>he doesn't work for a media distributor

AMD Threadripper

>he wants to compress his videos to save space
>plans to use hardware encoder
fuck, the state of Jow Forums these days

What settings do you use and final compression ratio you get at 22 CRF?

For 10-bit HEVC I just use the slow preset and some PP avisynth filters if necessary (usually smoothing/denoise). I get ~1GB file sizes for 2 hour movies so like 20:1 compression ratio compared to blu-ray mux.

>usually smoothing/denoise
Sometimes I'm glad fansubbing is dead. It was a dark time before Daiz

>compressing already compressed video with the absolute pile of shit that is 265
>with a gpu nonetheless
Do you wanna pixelize the rest of their bodies as well?

>the idea is to re-encode every couple years when the new memecodec comes out.
You want to reencode using lossy codecs over and over? Imagine being this retarded.

>encoding VP9 on CPU
>mfw 11FPS

Try AV1

How's AV1 compared to HEVC?

It will be faster to upload to youtube, and then download your video from youtube.

1fps.

>1FPS
Fuck this shit.

Solidly better at 4k and 8k. Somewhat better at 1080p.

Encoding time is currently 1000x worse though.

What I can do in 5 hours with HEVC takes ~100+ hours with AV1.

The only problem with NVENC is that it doesn't support b-frames.

Just keep it as 264. It's more compatible and no matter how high you put the bitrate re-encoding it will lower the quality.

Might as well hand him a shotgun to blow his brains out. It's essentially the same thing.

>hardware encoder
Pathetic. If you have that much storage, then invest in Threadripper or something jesus fucking christ.

>shill me on any better encoder to use for recompressing my h264 jav collection
First, stop watching porn, second, never use hardware encoding and third, you are going to lose a lot of video quality if the source is already lossy(an encode).
